I'm glad people are given a chance to have a child. Hope laws or regulations are made to help and protect the parents and surrogate mother.

Ukraine seems to be one of the fewest places where the laws favor the intended parents rather than a surrogate. Under Ukrainian law, the baby is yours from the moment of conception. Once the baby is born, the birth certificate is issued with your names.A surrogate can't claim any rights. Lastly, the procedure in Ukraine is time-wise. Pregnancies usually start right after embryos are create because many women participate in surrogacy there. Then it's relatively affordable- some of Ukrainian clinics have all-inclusive plans at £35k. In the clinic we were with, this sum of money covers absolutely everything outside of the plane tickets. They offer transportation, food, accommodation. They offer all things that involve IVF for you if you are using your own eggs, surrogate screening and medical costs, and birth at the hospital for the same cost! It is also the same price if you choose to use donor eggs instead. I believe this is a nice back-up plan to have if sth goes wrong. I've never seen this kind of all-inclusive plan anywhere else.

Our beautiful LO was born weighing 8lb 12 oz by planned Caesarean and I was able to be at our surrogate's side in the operating room. Saw everything with own eyes. It was amazing! A new life coming into this world..so tiny and sweet.. The surrogate healed well but a bit longer than expected. Her body became to weak to resist meds affects..Poor thing she was, dear. Some people say surrogates are purely exploited for a sum of money and that usually there are no friendly relationship between IP and surrogate. Personally I don't believe this. Well, I can't understand this better to say. For me it's impossible to stay appart from a surrogates needs, worries, whatever. We lived the story with her from the first day to our last. We still keep in touch with her. As far as we know, she's planning to carry one more baby for a Norwegian couple which is absolutely amazing! We're happy to hear some news from her from time to time. She always asks us about our LO..

Dr. Nanaya Patel poses wonderful points. No one should have to suffer from infertility if there are other ways around it, and since there are, and they are safe, why is there not more opportunities or laws surrounding the idea of it? When we compare the risks to the benefits of any procedure - including one such as this, people often forget the mental, psychosocial and emotional benefits or risks of it. We must take into consideration those just as important as the physically risks or benefits themselves. I disagree with some of these comments that this is dangerous, this is a completely normal and natural part of life. Elective surgeries such as knee replacements could pose more of a threat to someone’s physical health when considering the risks and benefits.
Next, we should look at this from another perspective of benefit to both the parent unable to conceive and the surrogate patient having the child. The surrogate may see a benefit in many ways than just financial, but a financial benefit in it of itself could be a way they support their family. When put into perspective, this is a way to make money while also having the ability to stay home and raise a family of their own or continue working and be able to gain an income in two ways at the same time. This is an awesome form of income if someone’s body is capable to do so.
They can also see it as a benefit emotionally and mentally. They may be able to find reward in helping others. Giving someone a chance at being a parent that wouldn’t otherwise ever be possible. The responsibility one can gain and enjoy from partaking in this is immense.
When we consider autonomy, this is not at all crossing any barriers either. There should not be laws making this illegal when it is a form of a natural occurring life cycle, let alone shown to work time and time again. If the surrogate wants to be a surrogate so be it. It is their own body and they have to approve of it anyways - this is no different than someone wanting to have an elective surgery. And to that point could actually pose less of a risk than an elective surgery when metal is being placed inside someone’s body.
If we are able to run experiments which put people’s lives as risk and they are aware of it anyways - there is no difference. To experiment new treatments or procedures, the participants are fully aware of the potential hazards and can therefor expect the worse and plan for it. There is so much information and care when it comes to OBGYN and the medical field has plenty of experience in all kinds of birthing situations. This absolutely follows the medical ethics principles of both autonomy and beneficence for all parties involved, especially with the technology we have to take care of all the parties involved.

I would NEVER ask anyone to risk their life so I could have a child and I would NEVER risk my life to have a child for anyone else, even my child.
Having a child is incredibly dangerous. Asking your mother to risk her life for you is the height of selfishness.

According to the logic of this Doc..anyone willing to sell a kidney can also considered as ethical.
just take a written consent and start selling of kidneys and other human organs.

Just because she does not have uterus does not mean she deserves a baby......no one deserves a baby. Some people are blessed with a child some are not .
