One of my favorite things about watching Dave was the evolution of him and Michael's friendship. It's really sweet. Two absolute legends and giants of entertainment!
It is the miserable experiances shared between people that can make the longest, most lasting and deep friendships. You rarely see Dave express such emotion for a guest. That was a real hug
I remember when I first fully realized that David Letterman's show was something special. Michael Keaton was the guest, promoting his breakout film Night Shift. They set up the clip from his film, but then, instead of the Night Shift, they cut to the goofy "Let's all go to the lobby" cartoon ad from the 50s, with the dancing hot dog, pizza, and popcorn box.
I remember sitting in the audience at the Mary Tyler Moore variety show and all I can remember about it was how Dave would keep the audience laughing through the commercial breaks
Dave was having none of the utter silliness of that "Mary" bit. How did he even land that gig? Too funny to see him not even trying to sing or put anything into it but shame and embarrassment. Keaton seemed committed.
The 70’s were full of variety shows. Even mimes. Yes mimes. 😂😂😂. Miss those days. Mike has always been hilarious. Mr. Mom & Johnny Dangerously are so great! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That would have been so much fun in the 70s to be a young comedians, Dave, Mike, Steve, Richard, Jay, Robin, Jerry, and many others at the Comedy Store with Mitzi or the Improv with Bud. All of them rooming together and broke. The talent and careers that came from that era are untouchable in my opinion.
The 2015 "Birdman" film won 38 awards, including multiple Academy Awards (Best Picture | Best Cinematography Best Directing | Best Writing/Orig.Scr.). One of my favorite films, of all-time, actually. 💞 ❤ M.K., in every art form he's made.
The guy Michael Keaton met at the dinner before the ceremony didn't lie: the Birdman performance was out of this world. I am not an Academy member, but I have seen more than enough films to confirm this view.
About that clip at the end, it was waaaaaaaaayyyyyyy too cheesy. "Mary" was an attempt by Mary Tyler Moore to return to television in 1978 after her sitcom had ended a seven season run the year before. As for this comedy variety show, CBS canned it after only three episodes.
That skit shows why Michael Keaton is a good actor and David Letterman is a TV host. Michael Keaton made the best of that garbage MTM skit and looked like he was having fun on stage embarrassing himself. Letterman looks so uncomfortable it makes an awful sketch even harder to watch.
Dave's discomfort with compliments was always entertaining!
He’ll never be invited back

You know Dave really loved his Batman.
Dave and Michael Keaton. They worked together and they appeared on TV together. They will always be incredible.
Legends baby!
@@paulpolpiboon9535 I know.
Right down to his last appearance, Keaton always killed it on Letterman.
I have loved Michael Keaton since night shift. My respect and ove just increased with his Pope story!

I never, ever got tired of that gag. They did it just infrequently enough that it was a surprise every time.
After that sparkling moment on 'Mary', Dave had his name legally changed to Enrico Palazzo.
This was really entertaining. Michael and Dave were great on Mary Tyler Moore. Thanks you guys!
Happy Birthday, Michael!
Happy 73rd birthday Michael Keaton, what a great interview. 🎂👑⚜️💎🏆🎈🎉 🥳 🎁 😆😂🤣
So much fun...had not seen this before! I am from the Burg too 😊
Michael Keaton and Dave were always hysterical.
I remember sitting in the audience at the Mary Tyler Moore variety show and all I can remember about it was how Dave would keep the audience laughing through the commercial breaks
These two could be brothers!
Ikr!?
Friendship is beautiful
Also in that cheesy routine...legendary TV character actor James Hampton. R.I.P. James.
These two were the best together!
Keaton is fantastic.
MK had me with Mr. Mom.
Dave was having none of the utter silliness of that "Mary" bit. How did he even land that gig? Too funny to see him not even trying to sing or put anything into it but shame and embarrassment. Keaton seemed committed.
The difference in their attitudes was quite amusing. Michael the committed actor alongside Dave the apathetic comedian.
the pope story was incredibly funny
Thank you, Dave 😁👍🤘
That was MAGICAL!

I had a Letterman Sweater and it DISAPPEARED! I want another one!! I've always loved Dave and watched him as a kid! He hasn't changed one bit!

fantastic!
I’m pretty sure Birdman should’ve won awards. It was my favorite Michael Keaton movie. If you haven’t seen it, treat yourself.

Thanks for this I loved it
“He’s Batman”
Birdman.
@@taxesdeathandtrouble.1886Both.
Dave - it’s not too late to host SNL.
18:49 the beautiful moment of Armageddon begins.
When Keaton takes a bow at the end, it appears that his fly is open. 😮
I could just feel the love. I must admit I'm very envious.
Keep on keepin on ❤️✌️🤓👍
14:17 It was at this moment when he reminded me of the idiot duplicate in Multiplicity. Licking a slice of pizza. "She touched my pepi, Steve"
Keaton and Bill Murray have long been staples on any of Dave's show! Long time friends & guests.
Today is Keaton's 73rd birthday
And to think that he just played Batman again in the Flash! Incredible!!!!! 😮
@@easye5653He really looks terrific.
Michael should have won the Academy Award. BY the way Bob & Ray were from Boston, MA and Cindy’s Harbor, Maine not the Mid West.

Holy cow, James Hampton was singing in that Mary Tyler Moore bit too! That's Harold Howard, Scott Howard's dad in 1985's Teen Wolf
Singing a McCartney song! A classic!
O.M.G.!!
Excellent TV

"Beetlejuice Beetlejuice."
Swoosie Kurtz was also on Mary’s show.
Yes. They said her name in this clip.
"I caught an updraft."
I miss nightly Letterman.
Mary had to clean up the lyrics for network television.
What was the name of the song?
@@easye5653 "With a Little Luck" by Paul McCartney and Wings. She changed "damn" to "darn" in the line "We can make this whole darn thing work out."
Im BATMAN!!!
Just in case you haven’t seen Birdman…

Is it possible you would’ve liked it more had there been a game derived from it?

Cool!

Funny stuff
Sure was a little luck 😂😅🤣
I suspect this video was dug up because Michael mentioned it on his recent appearance on the Smartless podcast.
and Beetle Juice is being released---nice tie in

Paul McCartney is spinning in his grave
Michael Keaton wasn’t bad. He TRIED! Dave was just awful.
That clip was so cheesy it begged for ham.
R.I.P. MK. Sorry to hear of his passing.
He did not pass and I don't know where you would've possibly heard that.
@@sevendays02 I guess you have never seen the other Letterman threads. It's a joke. Calm down.
BIRDMAN is the worst movie ever that is acclaimed. Just annoying and pretentious.
Good lord Keaton… shut up!
Michael is dead!!! Whh?
He's still very much with us. He's turning 73 today.
Keaton is a horrible storyteller
“Eh…No dize…”. 😅
