Even I, a non-fan of DBZ, fully acknowledge that it has had a permanent impact on global culture. Its place in the history of manga cannot be ignored. Toriyama-san took inspiration from Chinese mythology and martial art films and created something unique, whereas so many other Jump manga come across as unoriginal (some even ripped off DBZ).

This series singlehandedly drove me to be the top of my class in my dojang & earn my black belt by 13 - I'd rush home from school and I'd have my VHS set and ready for me to hit record for when I'd have to leave for TaeKwonDo; dbz happened to come on the MINUTE I'd have to be leaving. So I'd watch everything else on toonami up until that moment, hit record, and try not to lag behind trying to catch what was gonna happen on that days episode or else I'd be late lol. And I'd go give it probably more effort than what could possibly expected from a kid training in any martial art, because in my mind I knew goku and friends were battling it out at the same time on my TV, with my favorite characters probably DYING, so if I didn't give it my absolute ALL, I couldn't possibly consider myself in their league - which, is where all us kid fans desperately wanted to be.

Growing up in the US in the 90’s me and my friends would literally rush home from school and go to my house (which was the first bus stop so it was quicker) just to watch DBZ literally everyday, and it was all that we talked about, when we played outside, we were pretending to be DBZ characters, every birthday and Christmas we all asked for DBZ related things, it’s not unfair to say this show shaped my child hood

I live in the other side of the world (literally and figuratively too), in Hungary we rushed home from the bus to watch DBZ, had to fight my Grandma to let me eat in front of the TV. And it was the same for everyone. It says a lot that this is a worldwide phenomenon that affected this generation in quite the same way.
Not much later 'adults' realized that they shouldn't broadcast this much violence in broad daylight, and Hungary lost Dragon Ball for years as it was literally banned from TV. (Legend says a kid died when trying to fly or summon the magic cloud, and parents nationwide were outraged).
I was at University when I finally had access to the whole series on torrent, and could experience the whole of DB and DBZ (and deliberately not GT)

Always training to break through your limits, protecting the weak, childish but smart, knows when to get serious, goofy but with a righteous heart
Boys are born masculine by nature and when we saw a character that was everything we wanted to be, he inspired a whole generation to become like him
While kenshiro is the grandfather, goku's the father of anime. It's not far-fetched to say that goku has succeeded kenshiro and he's pretty much inspired anime in general. He said that the villains gain power due to a selfish desire for it, whereas why the heroes power will always win is because true power comes from a NEED that has to met in response to evil. • @uwu1234-i6j
      @uwu1234-i6j 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

@@Captain_Calcium Not only is it being overworked, but it's also being underpaid as well. Of course, that's universal in the animation industry around the world as storyboarders and animators are only paid once when an episode airs while the company keeps all the profit from how many times the show airs, merchandise, and home release sales. Yet even with all of that, they don't bother improving the budget for these productions making the jobs more difficult for their employees. There's also the fact that in the west, anime is well known but it's not completely mainstream to where it's even taken as seriously as western animation, and even that's not taken seriously as animation is seen as a kids medium and if it has an audience in adult age ranges, then it's a very niche one making it harder to advertise to. So it's really not a matter of Japanese fans, animators, directors, etc being oblivious as they're both probably implying, it's just the industry struggles financially due to bad work ethic and company practices.
Of course, as self-entitled as the western part of the anime community is, I would find it hard to believe it's even popular in the west if I worked in the industry where foreign fans constantly send death threats because a mangaka wasn't woke enough or making disrespectful comments like, "That's sad, where's the next episode of Super?" when an entire studio(that didn't even produce DB anything)is burnt down with hundreds dead and injured. Also calling their entire country a "country of pedophiles" simply because of the art style characters are drawn in.

      Vegeta especially Vegeta Majin.
Is. The best written character in all. Anime. For. Me.
The best drawing style. Talk. Everything

I occasionally come back to this video just to skip to the Vegeta bit. I don't know what it is about it but it just feels to powerful with your narration and the music. It's inspiring. And no one to me in DBZ is as inspiring as Vegeta. The only character that struggled and changed throughout the story. Thus making him the most human and relatable to watch. Despite never winning, to me he was still the best and probably 60% of the reason I was so hooked on the show back then as a kid watching it on Toonami.
Kudos to this awesome video ! Thank you so much for making it (:. It makes me feel good.

Never winning? He's won more fights than nearly every Z fighter except Goku & Future Trunks.

Thank you for reminding me why I loved Dragon Ball Z. Growing up and realizing how flawed it is made me jaded and cynical towards the series, but this video made me feel something positive for the show again.

AlexRedgrave04 DB Super is similar. Flawed, but fun. And Super has the added bonus of less filler, and more character work for side characters. (Especially Piccolo)
Also, side characters actually get good fights, sometimes!

Herman Cillo Not Tien, unfortunately. At least pretty much every other side character got a bare minimum of one good fight, excluding Tien’s floating mime child (is he still a child?) sidekick and the fighter so useless that he gave up fighting and just started playing baseball, of all things. Both characters barely even had cameos, though I think Yamcha had a filler episode for himself (definitely not Chiaotzu though. Rip)

I'm late to the party, but this is a great video! Thank you for creating it. Vegeta's arc was indeed one of the greatest not only in Dragon Ball Z, but also anime or heck TV in general. He is perhaps the deepest character in the series, with the most growth by far. It's amazing to see who he is in Super and compare it to the start of DBZ.
