    Ex-Bicycle and motocross racer here. This is GREAT advice. There's no reason for a beginner to be on a 450. Maybe a 250 is you're in open desert, but that's it. Another thing that's great about the 150, it's a 2 stroke, so it's really easy to work on. Cheaper to work on too.
    Other advice : buy a proper pair of off-road or MX boots. Wear a chest protector too. Take a class. Most guys seem to think they're born knowing how to ride. WRONG.

    Been riding for 30 years had all the motocross bikes in my time, well almost, and when it was time to look into trail riding I bought a 2022 TE150i even tho the 250 and 300 were sitting right beside it. My last track bike was a YZ149 Eric Gorr motor and I could not believe how much damn fun I had on it and Im 225lbs. Im not out racing just cutting lap so I dont care about muscling my way past other guys at the track. Once I learned how fun a light weight small bored stroke is its all I want now. I never feel like Im lacking power, it has plenty for anything Im gonna get into. Also, I can not believe how good of a job they did with the TE150 motor... its smooth and quiet and linear powerband is amazing. Like you showed... you can lug it or make it scream. Its phenomenal. I think its the best bike Ive ever owned

    Glad to see you keep covering this Chris!..As the proud owner of 4 bicycles, (2 mt, 1 road, 1 gravel) and 2 motorcycles (KTM 300 xcw, KTM Super Duke R) there is nothing more complementary between them..E bikes are fine but their is nothing more exhilarating than a dirt bike, and if you already ride bicycles, you will take to it very quickly. And yes, if your training for an upcoming race, you can ride both in the same day…just make sure to do your mileage first as once you get on the dirt bike its hard to get off!

    Excellent video showing how easy this bike is to ride, yet its ability to still going into party mode for a good time.. none of the other videos I’ve seen on the TE150 show this.

    Great advice, Mr. Horner. You emphasize an important technique for any dirt bike riding. That is, power delivery and control is optimized by using the clutch AND throttle together. Even many of my experienced riding friends resist this fact, but just look at almost any picture of a professional motocross rider. You’ll notice they almost always have a finger on the clutch lever. Once I became proficient with this technique, my control, speed and race results all dramatically improved. Plus, the clutch is your get-out-of-jail card for whiskey throttle moments!

    Makes a lot of sense to me. When I worked in the Minnesota Northwoods, I always wanted the lightest snow machine I could get. I could maneuver them, keep them afloat and if they did get stuck, a lot easier to dig out. My first motorcycle was a kwasaki 175 Enduro; it was light as well.

    All great points. Quite, less power, lightweight, and in the Husky’s case lower seat hight, and an off road gearbox. The 150 TPi’s are an excellent choice for the new rider. The only other bike I think would be a little better is the 200. 200 = a little more torque ( a bit less clutch for the beginner and an ability to lug somewhat) and a bit more forgiving when the trail gets a little more technical.

    So nice video. But i'm on the fence. I haven't rode in 20 years and i'm 5'11 240lbs. Do you think the 150 would be adequate for me or should i get the 250 ?

    This is great. If I can't watch the Butterfly Effect, I can watch Motocross Madness with Chris. And I'd be interested in a starter 450, yikes. And thanks, Chris, for your motorcycle vids. I haven't owned either a road or dirt bike in decades, but I still dig the scene and one of these days I'd like to buy a 125 two-stroke just to twist the throttle on a local track or two here in Central Pennsylvania.

    I can totally relate as a former motocross/enduro rider. I started out with motocross and then got interested in riding enduro. I rode technical trails with a 200cc two stroke made for mx tracks, and that was a wrestle. I the had a pause for about ten years. Got a chance to ride a modern Yamaha 250cc four stroke enduro bike and my feeling was instantly “so this is how smooth and forgiving it can be”. Modern suspension, engine tuned for the trails and lower power but better torque. The motocross on slow technical trails was good training though 😓

    Agree about starting low power. I chose a Kawasaki 250 4-stroke to get started on, but it is torquey for a learner and I wish I had got a physically smaller bike. Recently got a Sur-Ron e-MX bike and goddamn it is amazing. Same dimensions as my MTB but it can go up all the trails I normally only go down, and because it is small and light I can easily try stuff where failure would be too consequential on my big heavy K250. Feels like on the e-mx I can try anything, and now it is also easier to ride the 250 because I’m more relaxed about having the bike move around.

      there is completely different bikes - 250 4t and 150 2t - this would make you cry if you say your one was dificult to ride. 2t engines r pain in arse on slow riding -those bikes only suitable for high speed chase. agree with you abouth weight, the smaller lighter easier to ride, but unfortunnately your 250 is lightest of 4t... there is no option to go lighter on 4t engine. but 2t engine despite its lighter it will be much harder to ride..... stupid system......what can i say

    This was the most informative video I’ve seen for beginner riders but nobody ever speaks about rider size. I’m 6’1” 220lbs. Is the TE150 still right for me as a beginner?

    Great video. I'm 6ft 185lb. Looking for a first bike at 44 years old. Was sure I was going with a yz250fx. But may opt for this. Won't be doing any hardcore riding anytime soon.

      I'm 45 6ft 195lbs and the yz250fx is my second bike. I made the mistake he's referring to but in my case is was a ktm 300xcw (too much power). The YZ is very adaptable with their power tuner app and feels much lighter, even though it's not, than my ktm.

    The quiet part for me is the selling point as a two stroke for my son. I wish Husky had a FE250 but may get the KTM EXC F 350 /Husky FE350 I did not see an Enduro model of a 150 on the KTM website. We would ride out of Las Vegas so still considering the 250 XC F for him. Lots of single track but not too much real tech stuff.

    Would you recommend for someone that is not necessarily a beginner, more intermediate, gets out about 5-7 year, almost 50 and looking for something more light weight than his previous 300i and 250sxf ? 80% of riding is flowy single track, with occasional hill climb and minimal technical rocky sections?

      250xc works great just about everywhere and the 250xcw works on the slow technical slipper rocks. A bit less power so easier to control over the xc model.

    will this bike be ok for me being around 200 lbs and 5'7? I have no interest in a bigger bike than a 150 and I dont really care about top notch performance all i care about is if my weight will ruin the bike.

    Good sound advice. The worst possible scenario for a beginner is to swing the leg over a bike that is too much to handle. Especially a bike that is overpowered for the the rider's ability, very dangerous. As in bicycle racing never bite off more than you can chew, cat 5 riders don't enter a 1-2 race. You use the word "experience"...well there it is.

    There are some guys blowing up the peloton in terms of disposable income. $10K for a beginner bike is putting nails into the spending legs of the dudes I know. If I were in the store making the choice, I'd have to go with the TE300 for just $500 more, even if the 150 is actually a better fit. What the beginner market needs is for a lot of tech millionaires to buy 150's, ding them up a little, and put them on Craigslist for $4K.

    I am so tired of hearing that the Husky TE 150 is a great beginner bike. What about us guys who race expert class on a 150 against the 250 and open bikes and have no problem. From King of the Moto Extreme Enduro to AMA National Hare And Hounds the 150 is right there with the bigger bikes.

      I think he's just referring to how relaxed the engine characteristics are when you're not in the power band. No doubt if you're capable of riding this bike on the pipe for long periods you can be competitive. Btw have you ridden the 125xc? Curious why you chose the TPI bike. The 23' 125xc even has the new TB injection so no mukini carb bs to deal with.

    What's the difference between this bike and an xtrainer for example??

      Xtrainer is 300cc traditional carb. and the suspension is not as good as the husky those are the big differences I found out

      You’re a beginner and you bought the wrong bike. Now you don’t like motorcycles at all. Or so you believe. Or, buy a used TE150 and love it and ride forever. If you don’t like it put it on Craigslist for a five dollar posting fee and get all of your money back. 😜

    Is the ktm 200xcw close to the 150?

      They stopped making those200 and have since chanced many thing between those. When I stepped up to a 2021 250xcw form my 2020 TE150 thought it was perfect step to take and made the transition very easy manage.

      Yes BUT, and it’s a big BUT, the risk of getting hurt is high. Not that life threatening hurt but missing season or part of one is high. I do love the cross over fitness and riding skills though.

    10K for a 150 trail bike. Freaking ridiculous. Beginner? Buy a Kawasaki KDX 200 or 220 two stroke for $2K or less.

      That’s just adding all kinds of weight for a begging to deal with not to mention how much worse the suspension is on the Kaw. Find a used one with low hours and that will make the difference in price and give you a much bike. 👊
