Hi Paul, How to get from Munich Central Station to Berchtesgaden is very useful information. The train looks very nice and clean. I thought it would be very difficult to go up and down the narrow stairs at the station with large luggage, but I feel safe if there is a ramp. The room has many windows and the view from the windows is wonderful, and the rooms are very clean. Thanks for nice sharing ! Juli 😊👍
Hi Juli, I hope people wanting to make the same journey find it useful. The trains were very clean and quiet. Walking up and down those steps were fun with all my luggage especially against the crowd. The room at the hotel was very spacious with great views. There will be videos of the places I explored from there early in the New Year. Thank you so much for watching. Have a great Christmas if I don't catch you before 🙂👍Paul
Hi Paul, It was a pleasure to watch your interesting and colorful travelogue. Thanks to you too for being a tour guide. How to get to Berchtesgaden from Munich train station plus an ideal hotel Berchtesgaden..
First impressions: The railways station looks more like an Airport, so large. What a comprehensive instruction video. This should be quite a help to those who want to visit here and make use of public transport. It all looks very efficient. Hotel looked super comfortable and the services provided super. Stunning view. A great next episode to this holiday. 👌🇳🇱🙋♀🇳🇿
Hi Anita, the station is pretty big and I didn't even cover the underground there. I thought i'd show how the journey is done whilst plugging my videos from the region coming early in the New Year. I know when I researched trains to Berchtesgaden from Munich before my trip that no one had done one so filled the gap. Thank you very much for watching. Catch you soon 👍🙂Paul
I thought the video would make a good plug for my up and coming videos from Berchtesgaden in the New Year and noted no one on TH-cam had done a video on the journey so I filled the gap. It will be quicker by car but I suspect a bit more expensive, certainly for me anyway, plus no hassle with parking when using trains/buses. All the main attractions in Berchtesgaden can be got to from that bus station and all free with a guest card. Not free really cos you pay 3.15 euros a day tourist tax. Thank you very much for coming along for the premiere. Have a great week 🙂👍Paul
Hi Paul! I enjoyed watching your train journeys to Berchtesgaden. You had so many useful tips. That slope at the station would have been far easier than battling the crowds on those steps, lol! I always find changing trains (and planes!) very scary. I always worry that I'll miss my stop or get on the wrong train. Your hotel and the view from your room looked lovely. Such a relief when you finally arrive at your destination, isn't it. Great video - thank you! 👍😊
Hi Julie n Lucy, I'd wish I'd known about that ramp around the back cos my knots in cotton arms wondered what was going on. It wasn't hermit friendly going against the crowd down the stairs either but the hermit scowl perhaps helped gain a path thro. The hotel sure had a good view and I will be getting closer to those views on the trips. They'll all be coming out in the New Year. Just get this dratted Christmas over with 😂 Thank you very much for coming along for the premiere. Have a great week 🙂👍Paul
This one was quite helpful as i pondered planning my travel from Bertchesgaden to Munich (your route but in reverse) I only have 11 minutes for the transfer at Frielassing so that has me a bit spooked. I booked at the Schwabenwirt as well because of the close proximity to transportation, and because it looked like a great property! Thanks again, your videos have been very helpful, and relaxing to enjoy!
I'm glad you found the video helpful and relaxing. When I researched the train trip some of the documentation insinuated that the train from Munich went from a different station. I think technically it is as it's set back from the main station and quite a walk. I have put a link to the map of Frielassing station in the video description if that is of further help for the train change. I found the Schwabenwirt Hotel to be good with a decent buffet breakfast. The evening meals and beer from there were also good. It was ideal after a day out 🙂 I should also add that since I did this video a relatively new train ticket which is valid for the month called the Deutschland-Ticket is available. This works the same as the Bayern ticket for the day but it's for the month and costs 49 Euros. It would be worth checking out if you plan on travelling a lot by train in Germany. I should update the description with this. Here's the link to the ticket information int.bahn.de/en/offers/regional/deutschland-ticket
Thanks for showing us around Hermit . Massive trainstation did well getting the right train . Good adventure again Thanks for taking us along with you 👍
Hi Adzey, a bit of a hermit adventure in a packed train station. Quite the hike getting across it. I find it always good to do some homework before you travel so you know what's, what. Thank you very much for coming along for the premiere. I even had bog roll and train spotting on this one 😂Have a great week 🙂👍Paul

Hi Paul. Thank you for the awesome guided walk to the train. This is very helpful for travellers, maybe first timers. Trains are a great way to travel. Stairs would be challenging. Glad you found out later that there was a ramp. Hope you had a great time! 👍😊🇨🇦
Hi Christine, I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. No one on YT has done a video on it so thought I'd do one and shamelessly plug my up and coming videos from Berchtesgaden whilst at it. I wish I'd found out about the ramp on this day it would have saved my knots in cotton arms from almost dropping off. You should have seen me lifting my case to go into the overhead storage racks 😂 I had a fabulous time in the region and hope to return one day to explore some more. Thank you very much for watching. You certainly had to do a lot of walking and talking in this video...hard pavement walking and no crunching at all...lots of good useful information for travelers ! Thanks for the great video Paul...happy to be along on your journey today!
Hi Donna, probably did more talking in this video than I do in total all year 😂 No crunching on this one but all the good stuff will be getting rolled out in the New Year. Now whether TH-cam thinks it's good is another matter 😂 Thank you very much for coming along for the premiere. Have a great week 👍🙂 The Grinch
I have a lot more stuff to come from Germany and Austria in the New Year where I visit lakes and mountains. Just waiting for Christmas to be out of the way. Thanks for watching 👍🙂Paul
I really love all your travels Paul and Thank you so much for taking us with you. This is very informative and useful to those new travelers going that place 👏😍
I hope people find the video useful and I used it to shamelessly plug my up and coming videos. I will have quite a few videos from the trip coming out early in the New Year. Thank you very much for watching. Have a great week 👍🙂Paul
What a fantastic and informative video, you really gave a fantastic and comprehensive view over travelling around Munich station, some top tips, and the views from Berchtesgaden were just breath taking, very much looking forward to your upcoming videos, thank you kindly for the video! 🥾
Hi Alessa, I thought the video might be a good plug for my up and coming videos. Just get this dratted Christmas out the way 😂 I will be very surprised if people don't enjoy the views from the trips I made whilst in Berchtesgaden but we'll see in the New Year huh. Thank you very much for coming along for the premiere. Have a great week 👍🙂Paul
You do such a wonderful job explaining everything in such detail. I have only traveled by train once in my life, I honestly wish there was more train access here in the States. It's such a nice way to travel 😌 I'm looking forward to your future videos of the National Park areas over there! Thanks so much 😊
I've only travelled by train once whilst in the US and I found them to be very slow. Tho that was in Boston MA about 25 years ago! I was in Germany and Austria for 2 1/2 weeks and got around everywhere by bus or train. All the good stuff from the trip will be coming early in the New Year. I'm waiting for Christmas to be out of the way when people will be more interested in trips for 2024. Thank you very much for watching. Have a great week 🙂👍Paul
Another very informative video for travellers … what a fantastic idea. It seems so complicated but you explain it very well. I’d be completely overwhelmed with all those people & without the prior knowledge to hand. Looks a very scenic journey & great choice of hotel. What you met new people & they’re not fb friends ? 😱 🤣😂 … I can’t believe that’s true lol … only kidding 😂 I’m looking forward to seeing more of your trips out. Hope you have a great Hermit style Christmas or whatever pleases you most of all. Take care … Best Wishes 🤗😄
Well I hope it's of use to people wanting to make the same trip. The hotel was certainly a great location for exploring the area. And I know I am slacking tho I did add one or two others 😂 The good stuff with lakes and mountains will be coming early in the New Year. Just get Christmas out the way first. Thanks for watching 🙂👍Paul
Hopefully people find the video useful. I did more talking in this video than I do all year 😂 Thank you very much for watching. Have a great week, my friends 🙂👍Paul
Nice tips Paul, very thorough. Top narration, thought I was listening to a smoother Ralph Ineson for a minute. The train and the stations look very clean and the first view of the town was beautiful, nice hotel and location
Hi Matt, I seem to get complemented on my narration a lot. I always think people are having a laugh 😂 It's a skill I never knew I had if not. No one on YT has covered this subject in this video and I thought an opportunity to also shamelessly plug my videos coming early in the new year from the region. Thought I'd get Christmas out the way before releasing those when people will start to think about trips away. Thanks for watching 👍🙂 Paul
@@TheHikingHermit I think a lot of people hate the sound of their own voice. I for one cringe at mine when I hear it 😅 but yours is definitely good mate. And shameless plugs and clickbait are necessary evils for us small youtubers
Awesome video Paul very useful information. Awesome job getting around over there. And absolutely beautiful at the station ❤. Merry Christmas happy holidays to you
Hi Nicole, well no one on YT has done a video on it so thought why not plus a good shameless plug for my up and coming videos from the Berchtesgaden National Park, which I release early in the New Year. For the whole 2 1/2 weeks I spent in Germany and Austria I used public transport to get around and it didn't let me down once. Thank you very much for watching. Have a great week and Merry Christmas to you too 🙂👍Paul
A great information film Paul with great advice 🤠👍 Definitely agree Munich train station can be confusing and very crowded Nice job 👍🤠 Best regards Simon
Hi Somon, well I hope people find it useful if doing the journey plus I thought it would be a good shameless plug for my up and coming videos from Berchtesgaden being released early in the New Year. Munich Hbf is pretty big and I didn't even go into the underground s-bahn and u-bahn on this occasion. I hope you're keeping well. Thank you very much for watching. Have a great week 👍🙂 Paul
@@TheHikingHermit all good thanks Paul (I’m sure this will be useful for many people especially new people to the region) Have a great Christmas mate 🎄🤠👍
I am always am interested in what you publish even if I am late. Enjoyed the train ride and think with out a lift or escalator I'll let you do the riding for me
Well I hope the video proves useful for people making the same journey. And no lift, escalator or ramp at the change over station wasn't the best. Thank you very much for watching 🙂👍Paul
@thehikinghermit Thank you for the video, extremely useful. Just had a query that whether the EURO 49 pass covers the regional train from Munich to Berchtesgaden.
I'm so glad you found the video useful. The monthly Deutschland-Ticket for 49 Euros is relatively new and does indeed cover the regional train from Munich to Berchtesgaden. It works the same as a Bayern ticket but for the month 🙂
Hello Paul, was the train on time? Lucky. We hate traveling with the Detschen Bahn. Our trains usually stop somewhere in the countryside, if they come at all. And you can see for yourself how you get further. Fuck DB. Plus they go on strike all the time. Glad everything worked out for you. Greetings Alex and Alex
Hi Alex n Alex, your comment made me laugh. Sounds like you're describing the UK train network there 😂 So it's not only the UK that has those issues. Tho they don't tend to dump us in the middle of nowhere they just cancel them instead. Thankfully on this occasion everything went very smoothly. It seems I got very lucky. Thanks very much for watching and commenting 🙂👍 Paul
Hi Phil, it's a video that's not been done on YT so I thought I'd do one and shamelessly plug my up and coming videos whilst at it. I think the German people loved my pronunciations too so I could give them a good laugh 😂 Thanks for watching. Have a great week 👍🙂Paul
Nice one Paul. Looked an interesting trip and a fascinating watching this trip. May well come back to this vid next year - we’re thinking of spending more time in Germany next year now. Doing Salzburg definitely and will probably get to Munich. That station looks massive!! Will follow on FB and Insta if I’m not already. Have a brilliant Christmas Paul 🎉
Hi Dave, well I thought the video may prove useful to people and took the opportunity to shamelessly plug my up and coming videos from the Berchtesgaden National Park which I'll be releasing early in the New Year. I'd recommend both Munich and Salzburg and that's coming from a hermit who doesn't enjoy cities in the main. Munich Hbf is pretty big and I didn't go into the underground bit on this video. When I first arrived when coming in from the airport I was a bit like a rabbit in the headlights. Give us a shout if you have any questions about the area before you go or even whilst there. Thank you very much for watching. Have a great week and Merry Christmas 👍🙂Paul
@@TheHikingHermit will do mate. That’s very kind of you. We will probably find a stellplatz somewhere outside the cities and make our way in on public transport so no doubt we will be following your tours around here at some point. Cheers Paul. 👍👍👍
Hi Paul this would be really helpful for us if we were going there as we have never been . Really good idea to do this. Looked lovely where you stayed, that river is so beautiful and I loved the hotel you stayed at, nice views from the window and the buildings around looked so nice. Sorry we don't do any social media at all ( only this one TH-cam chanbel !) so can't follow you 🙂 👍~ Anna .
Hi Anna, well I hope people find it useful and no one else on YT has done a video on it from what I can see. Also thought it would a good opportunity to shamelessly plug my up and coming video from the region. It was a lovely place to stay. It's hard keeping up with YT never mind social media. Thank you very much for watching. 🙂👍Paul
Hi Anna, well from doing a bit of investigation and looking at some video I did on my way from Berchtesgaden to Salzburg it looks like there is no longer a luggage storage facility at Berchtesgaden station. There used to be a sign over the door when going out on to the platforms saying there was luggage storage but I can confirm that sign was no longer there as of August last year. The online map of Berchtesgaden station also doesn't have any lockers indicated. However I am not 100% sure that it doesn't have luggage storage. It would be quite poor if they didn't. Sorry I couldn't give you a more definitive answer.
Ha ha thanks! That's a Northern English accent as I'm from near Manchester in England. However I know that even TH-cam has difficulty doing the auto translate for subtitles with my accent 😂 so I always add proper manual closed captions to my videos 🙂 I'm glad you enjoyed the video 🙂Paul
Is there a platform 9 3/4 at the Munich train station? 😀 But seriously, that was a very busy train station and your tips are very helpful. The hotel looked very nice as well. Berchtesgaden looks like such a beautiful town. 😊👍
Hi Anita, well I think I walked 3/4 of the way up platform 9 to get on the train, does that count 😂Hopefully people find the video useful if making the same trip and used the video to shamelessly plug my up and coming videos from the Berchtesgaden National Park. The hotel was in a great location for exploring the area. Thank you very much for taking time to watch. Have a great week 🙂👍Paul
Hi, I am looking to travel by train to Berchtesgaden from Munich and looks like I have no choice but a 12-13 minute interchange at Freilassing- how long was your interchange & how long did it take you to get from one train to the other? Any advice is helpful, thank you for this video!
Hi, it only takes a couple of minutes to change trains at Freilassing. The video from 8:27 to around 10:30 shows what's involved in the procedure. You need to go down the stairs from platform 2, take the underpass and head to platform 1. The train for Berchtesgaden may already be waiting when you arrive at Freilassing station. Check the station signs and the signs on the trains monitors telling you its destination to ensure you're on the correct train. I hope that helps, Paul
@@TheHikingHermit Looks like we will be platform 8 to platform 1, so hopefully that will be just a few more minutes. Thank you so much for the thoughtful, quick reply- I appreciate the help so much!
@@kristinkeeler7980you're most welcome and I'm always happy to help. Here's a link to a map I found online of Freilassing station if that helps sematicweb.detie.cn/stations/DBEYyB/Freilassing_bahnhof_plan.gif-hq It looks like platform 8 will perhaps add another 30 seconds to your platform change to platform 1 as you will take the same underpass
@@TheHikingHermit Thank you so much for looking into that! Having that info makes such a difference and looks like we will be okay as long as the trains are on time 🤞 can't thank you enough for the advice!

This brings back memories of travelling around Europe 😊
I have a lot more stuff to come from Germany and Austria in the New Year where I visit lakes and mountains. Just waiting for Christmas to be out of the way. Thanks for watching 👍🙂Paul
I really love all your travels Paul and Thank you so much for taking us with you. This is very informative and useful to those new travelers going that place 👏😍
I hope people find the video useful and I used it to shamelessly plug my up and coming videos. I will have quite a few videos from the trip coming out early in the New Year. Thank you very much for watching. Have a great week 👍🙂Paul
High quality video and nice editing Paul.
Enjoyed watching it 😊
Thank you very much Aishu. I'm glad you enjoyed it 🙂
What a fantastic and informative video, you really gave a fantastic and comprehensive view over travelling around Munich station, some top tips, and the views from Berchtesgaden were just breath taking, very much looking forward to your upcoming videos, thank you kindly for the video!
It's such a nice way to travel 😌
I'm looking forward to your future videos of the National Park areas over there!
Thanks very nice sharing👍
Paul
That was a lot of info you supplied. Good video travelers.
Happy day my friend 👍👍
Was just here ❤❤🇨🇦💯✌️
Great video. Wishing you a fantastic day 👍

Great video. We are going back to Munich in Sept 2025 for Oktoberfest.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've never been to the Oktoberfest but wouldn't mind going one year. I hope you have a great time 🙂
A great information film Paul with great advice 🤠👍
Definitely agree Munich train station can be confusing and very crowded
Nice job 👍🤠
Best regards Simon
Hi Somon, well I hope people find it useful if doing the journey plus I thought it would be a good shameless plug for my up and coming videos from Berchtesgaden being released early in the New Year. Munich Hbf is pretty big and I didn't even go into the underground s-bahn and u-bahn on this occasion. I hope you're keeping well. Thank you very much for watching. Have a great week 👍🙂 Paul
@@TheHikingHermit all good thanks Paul (I’m sure this will be useful for many people especially new people to the region)
Have a great Christmas mate 🎄🤠👍
Good video sir!! Thanks
You're most welcome. Thank you for letting me know 🙂
I am always am interested in what you publish even if I am late.
One thing to add here, the trains used in this video are not from Deutsche Bahn. They're operated by Bayerische Regiobahn, a private operator
Wonderful central station. Very good and useful information. Awesome instruction. You did great job. thanks. Big like. 48. New subs.
Thank you very much, my friend
Great concept Paul 👌
Don’t worry I loved the pronunciation 😁👍

Stay safe always and enjoy.😊
This was from August so I'm back now all safe and sound in my hermit cave 😂 It was a great trip 👍
Hi Paul this would be really helpful for us if we were going there as we have never been . Really good idea to do this. Looked lovely where you stayed, that river is so beautiful and I loved the hotel you stayed at, nice views from the window and the buildings around looked so nice.
Sorry we don't do any social media at all ( only this one TH-cam chanbel !) so can't follow you 🙂
👍~ Anna .
🙂👍Paul
Lovely, thanks for tour :-)
Thank you very much for watching. I hope you're keeping well 🙂
Awesome thank
Good to know 👍
Thanks for the visit 👍
Does anyone know if there are luggage storage lockers at Berchtesgaden station? Thank you!
@@TheHikingHermit I appreciate your answer and your time so very much!!!!! Thank you!!!

@TheHikingHermit No worries mate see you soon 👍
Well, what about that funny accent in English friend?🤔😀😂 Greetings from across the pond! Good video!
Ha ha thanks! That's a Northern English accent as I'm from near Manchester in England. However I know that even TH-cam has difficulty doing the auto translate for subtitles with my accent 😂 so I always add proper manual closed captions to my videos 🙂 I'm glad you enjoyed the video 🙂Paul
cool, i see a sign for mcdonalds also :)
Yes I think that counts. LOL. @@TheHikingHermit
Hi Kristin, you're very welcome. I know it can be a bit stressful going somewhere new. I hope you have a great trip, Paul
The train connection between Munich and Salzburg ist just a joke. The position of the platform tells you: we give a shit about you.
It sure is a bit of trek to get to the platform and usually standing room only by the time the train leaves Munich from my experience.
