Hey everyone, I hope you enjoy this week's video all about my former home city of Munich! As usual, there's more tips in the written version: happytowander.com/munich-travel-tips/ And you can follow me on Instagram here for real time travels and stories :) instagram.com/happytowander/ Be sure to chime in with any additional tips, by the way!! :)
little piece of advice - if you want to see most of munich : dont take the u-bahn or the s-bahn (unless strictly necessary) , because they are mostly underground, take the tram ! you almost get everywhere with it, and you see a lot of the city !
An addition to the dress tips: Afternoon or evening thunderstorms can happen any day in summer, even if it’s not in the daily forecast (caused by the geographic situation with the mountains close by in the south). It’s always a good idea to carry a small pocket umbrella and/or rain jacket you can stuff in your bag. Also watch rain radar apps towards the afternoon, the thunderstorms will usually form south west of the city and move in north east direction.
I’ve been to Munich once before and don’t even have another trip planned yet (hoping for next fall!) but I’m saving this video for when I do plan bc it’s so dense with great information! Thank you for making this
Thank you, I am planning on going next year and so many people have said that Munich is a 2-3 day city, can't wait to watch this and learn so much about Munich
Ahh I hope my video can change your mind!! You can definitely cover the main sights in 2-3 days but more time would be ideal if you want to get out of the city and see some of the gorgeous castles, lakes & mountains nearby :)
@@HappytoWander At the moment I'm thinking 2 days on Munich and 1 day at each of Neuschwanstein and Herrenchiemsee. The tip for the Bavarian Castle pass was brilliant made it so much more affordable 😌
This was great! Heading to Munich for 3 days in September. Planning on checking out Oktoberfest one day and doing Munich things the rest! Very helpful video!!! (And I like how fast you talk lol…you can always pause and write down notes! And a 19 min video is way more appealing than a 25 min video…just saying!👌🍻) Thank you!!
i had been watch so many video about munich trip . even though u speak very fast and just sit there to explain the info. i still found it your info very useful than others. such as the law library , the small Chruch . how to say Thank you in Garman. and about the 6 main kind of beer and the Bavarian culture. Thank you so much.
Visiting as a tourist in November. It will be cold but I love the fall :) Hoping to visit some castles and Allianz arena, eat and visit museums, churches, and maybe hike
Thank you. Just started research for our Germany trip next year. You were the second video I watched. You answered some questions I didn't know I had. 😊 Serious question: What my wife and I want to know is, where's the disco-tech? We love German techno. We want to go dancing. Thanks!
Really great video! I've been researching for a Munich trip and this is the first that puts it all together with added "different things to do/see" bonus! Looking forward to more of your content. Thanks :)
Very well done, you really notice that you live in munich for quite some time! Tip from a local for the beer enthusiasts: The quality of most of the "big 6" of the breweries is kinda bad actually. I mean if its tap you can drink it (augustiner and hacker pschorr are the best imo, hofbräu and löwenbräu are disgusting) but when it comes to bottled beer i would highly recommend the smaller breweries, like Giesinger, Haderner of Tillmanns from munich or maxlrainer or mooser liesl from the region. Also giesinger is sold in more and more bars in munich and that is for a reason.
right ! giesinger makes a really great weissbier...and so does the "airbräu" at the airport ! forget about paulaner end franziskaner..augustiner is ok !
Thank you @HappytoWander! This is super helpful! Going to Germany in the next month and wondering if you have any tips for Baden Baden, Berlin, or Heidelberg?
Yay so happy you found it helpful!!! I haven’t been to Baden Baden and I’ve only been to Heidelberg once BUT I do know Berlin quite well. Apart from the general Germany must-knows (th-cam.com/video/xf0byg9qO6o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pjNYcDlIyyOU_wVC), I haven’t written anything about it yet but here are some quick tips off the top of my head haha: - Berlin is quite big so definitely make a sightseeing plan according to neighbourhood as you’ll want to avoid doubling back - Some of the main tourist sights (eg Checkpoint Charlie) are quite underwhelming so lower your expectations haha. - Definitely go beyond Mitte to visit different neighbourhoods to get a better feel for the city - The Reichstag building is REALLY cool (and free) but you need to book a ticket in advance so try to do that ASAP - There are tons of different unique museums/attractions in Berlin for every interest so don’t feel pressured to see the most famous museums just because they’re well known! Pick what you’re personally most interested in. I loved the Computer Games Museum for instance - food-wise, currywurst & Döner are a must, but Berlin has an amazing international and vegan food scene so you’re really spoiled for choice! - If you plan to go out, know that “going out” culture in Berlin is really casual. You can leave the high heels and club dresses at home 💃🏻 - Lastly, I’d recommend reading up on the history of Berlin before you go so you can understand the historical context of the main sights/have a bit of knowledge when you visit museums. Makes things way more interesting! Hope that helps. Depending on when you go, I may have a Berlin guide prepped by then but if not, have an amazing trip and enjoy 🫶
Thanks for this. Wasn't aware that you have to validate train tickets so thanks for this, very useful! We are going in November and aim to visit Olympic Park, Allianz Arena and city centre. We are staying next to Central Station. What is the best ticket for transport?
Do you or anyone know if there are trains that go directly from the airport to Salzburg? It's looking like we would go into town, then catch a train to Salzburg. Thanks!
hi Happy to Wander - im planning to buy the 49 Euro D pass in my coming trip to germany - its basically valid for all the transportation other than the express regional trains. Just want to check quickly i can just hop on the S bahn from the airport in munich to the city centre right?
thanks for the informative video! what do you think about the 49 euro ticket? im travelling around bavaria like garmisch, nesuwenstein, rothenburg, etc
I'm planning to visit Munich and during my trip I want to take a day trip to the Alps down south. Have you been there before? How accessible is it by train? Do I need to worry about ticks?
It’s very good accessible by train in different directions south to the Alpes. No worries with tickets, there is no ticket limit. If you want to avoid big crowds on the weekends, take an early train! Best time for hiking now in fall. You gonna love it
Im traveling for munich for a concert, my hotel is 20 min walking from the place of the gig, would you say its safe to walk at night? xd sorry my first solo trip
I’m going solo for a concert too and asked the same thing in a travel group on Facebook, apparently Munich is extreamly safe. If you have already been let me know if you got on.
Saw this on trip advisor “Train tickets, that is, DB tickets, never have to be validated. However, you have to enter your name(s) on the Bayern Ticket. The ticket has blank lines for that, and you should enter the names before the departure of the train. The reason is to make it impossible to sell a used Bayern Ticket when you have arrived at your final destination and don't need it any more. An MVV single ticket or day ticket doesn't have to be validated either, afak. It is for a specific day. An MVV strip ticket needs to be validated, but I'd advise against buying those as you always seem a have a few strips left by the time you leave Munich, and for your next visit, they will have expired, as they expire when prices are raised.”
Click the cog icon, click playback speed, select 0.75x. I find her pace great though. Presenting at a conversational pace, or doing too much dramatic pausing is really annoying.
Love your channel but you speak too fast. This isn’t a race. Would you talk to your friends as fast? Please slow down. Don’t you watch your videos before posting? Check out Nik at Away together he has a very good cadence. I think you have one of the best channels for travel but you need to take your time when describing the trip. If you’re rushed to put out a video you will put out a video and lose subscribers because it is not enjoyable to watch and frankly very stressful. I couldn’t make it to the end. Not good. What don’t you watch your videos, take one of them and film it over in a slower speed?

Totally agree !! not only in Munich i guess (that i haven't visited yet 🥲) but i try to do that in most of my trips at towns with trams ❣
I watched tons of videos about Munich and I am so happy I came across your video. Very useful info, thank you a lot! Going to Munich in April.
This is the best Munich video I've watched, thank you! I'm headed there first week of May and this was very informative. Saved for viewing again.
Me too!! I am excited to visit!

Also, watch out on TrainPal price radar. Many ticket prices drop. I'm thinking about train card sales as well.
This is a wonderful video, very informative and very comprehensive, thanks a lot as i found is very useful.
I’ve been to Munich once before and don’t even have another trip planned yet (hoping for next fall!) but I’m saving this video for when I do plan bc it’s so dense with great information! Thank you for making this
Thank you, this is really helpful, I'm going there on my own, alone, first time in europe. This January 2024. you're my guide. lol 😆
How did the trip go?
Thank you! I’m in the middle of planning right now and this helps a lot!
Yay! So happy to hear that. Hope you have an amazing trip!
Minute 12:00 reminds me of their Jungschweinbraten, one that I will always remember of!
Mmm one of my favourite dishes! I’m hungry just thinking about it haha
One of the best videos out there. Very helpful info! Glad I watched!

To be fair, while Memmingen airport is 90 minutes from Munich, the main Munich airport itself is 45 minutes from downtown.

As a former Munich local (2008-14), I didn't know the Justizpalast was actually open to the public! Very eye-opening....... ❤
A same, was just there for an actual court appointment and it was quite an amazing building
Planning a trip to Munich, this video is so helpful and informative. Thank you!
Awesome job. Very comprehensive
Very informative and super helpful! Thank you so much for sharing! :-)

I learned SO much!!! Very nicely done. Thank you!

We have trip planned for this June and we have one free day and would like your opinion on visiting Nymphenburg Castle vs Munich Residenz. Thank you!
Great video! I loved it!
Great video, thank you!
Excellent
Awesome tips! Thank you!
Great video, what is the best way to get to Neuschwanstein? Thanks
Nicely presented!
Do you or anyone know if there are trains that go directly from the airport to Salzburg? It's looking like we would go into town, then catch a train to Salzburg. Thanks!
Thanks, super helpful ❤

Well i can tell that you local based on the fact you didn't recommend to go for a beer in hofbrau on marienplaz the biggest tourist trap 😂
thanks for the informative video! what do you think about the 49 euro ticket? im travelling around bavaria like garmisch, nesuwenstein, rothenburg, etc
Going to Munich in February late February to be exact, what do yall think weather mostly will be like
How's the weather at the beginning of October? I'll visit Munich this year for the first time!
I can't find the app you mentioned for trains. I saw mvg and mvv???
Is it easy to find car rental from Munich to drive to Tirol? Thanks!
Is there an options that we can use a contactless payment for public transport?
for MVG mobile tickets, how do you validate them?
If you only had time to do one museum in Munich which would it be?
How is the New Years Eve celebration in Munich?
I'm planning to visit Munich and during my trip I want to take a day trip to the Alps down south. Have you been there before? How accessible is it by train? Do I need to worry about ticks?
It’s very good accessible by train in different directions south to the Alpes. No worries with tickets, there is no ticket limit. If you want to avoid big crowds on the weekends, take an early train! Best time for hiking now in fall. You gonna love it
If you booked through TrainPal, it's a smooth process with guarantees. So attached by their discounts and train cards.
I can’t find the app, someone please can confirm which is the name of it ? There are some with similar names
Im headed to munich in July hoping to meet a few friends to hangout. Im a black woman and wont mind meeting male friends. Thank you
How was your trip?
Im traveling for munich for a concert, my hotel is 20 min walking from the place of the gig, would you say its safe to walk at night? xd sorry my first solo trip
I’m going solo for a concert too and asked the same thing in a travel group on Facebook, apparently Munich is extreamly safe.

Saw this on trip advisor

Good info. Thanks. One constructive suggestion, try to grow beyond uptalk. You will sound more confident and listeners are growing tired of uptalk.
We just got back and had a great time! Do us Texans a favor and slow down a little. We listen SLOWLY. 😊
good info..... it would be perfect if you can talk a bit slower.
This was a handy video as we are heading to Munich for the Christmas markets. However, you talk so fast it was a bit hard to understand.
Oh goodness, then just go to video speed and slow it down as much as you need.
you underestimate my attention span for watching things about what i should eat in europe 🤣😂🤣😂
Good Video, you could speak a little slower,
Kaiserschmarrn is typical Austrian!
Das mit den kurzen Hosen und der Kleidung nach Jahreszeit ist absoluter Müll 😂😂😂
YOU CANT EAT LEBKUCHEN ????????
I think Cologne is better
Ruined the video by talking too fast. Slow down please and let people understand what you are saying !
Not too fast for me.
I just learned there's a feature to slow down. Click settings on the video screen and select playback speed. 0.75x worked well for me 😊
Exactly, I feel the same. If you talk fast, why do you make the video to show people???
Don’t be a jerk, you can slow down the video in settings
Nothing was ruined 🙄
Woah, slow down!
you talk too fast lucky there is slow down feature 👍
Why you have to talk too fast?
I didn’t think she talked that fast, but did you know you can slow the video down to 0.75 if that’s easier for you?
You talk to fast.
She talks to fast.
Click the cog icon, click playback speed, select 0.75x. I find her pace great though. Presenting at a conversational pace, or doing too much dramatic pausing is really annoying.
Good video but too much mixed information. I’m just a tourist and this video seems to be more focused on people staying long term. Just keep it simple
Love your channel but you speak too fast. This isn’t a race. Would you talk to your friends as fast? Please slow down. Don’t you watch your videos before posting? Talked too fast!
Too fast and can't digest the information
Pause button exists
Ruined the video
Oh my. You talk too fast.
You speak like you're walking across a crossroad
Great tips, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Great video!! Thank you!!
So helpful thank you!
