    Wow! Nipah fruit was my childhood snack whenever I went to the river to look for some clams. We also took the nipah leaves to make roofs. Damn, organizing a marriage reception back then was very labor intensive. Nowadays people will just use the canopy tents. Back then we must make the roof from nipah leaves and the skeletons from large bamboo.

    Nipah's leaf can be used as roof for house. In the past people used it as a roof. My grand parent used to have that kind of roof before change to zink type roof. The roof made of nipah leaves will definitely cool down the house since nipah leaves will have a better temperature control and ventilation, hot air not trapped inside the house because this kind of roof will let hot air go out. In addition to that, the old malay house architecture have a very good ventilation if you see how the roof is put.

    • @JetLagWarriors
      @JetLagWarriors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe it’s most popular in and originated from Java, Indonesia. And it spread thoughout South East Asia through traders etc. That’s how it came to Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia. The wayang we just watched is believed to have came from Cambodia through Thailand. Hence, the design has more of a Thai influence. But yes, wayang kulit is more commonly seen in Indonesia.

    You and Ken Abroad should talk to the Malaysia Tourism people about possible help with extending your visas. You'll have time to visit Sabah and Sarawak. In return, you could continue working with local Tourism people and make the 'definitive' and most informational travel vlogs of Malaysia. Maybe they can even help with expenses.

    Wow, you nailed it! So interesting! I had been to Kota Bahru a few times but never seen so much like you did.
    In a less than 30 minutes, your video covered all the intricate details of the art, culture and religion of Kelantan which is also a representation of the old and present day of Malaysia.
    Did you know that the preserved nipah fruit is added to the crushed ice desert called ABC?
    On 9:05, that’s a laughing Buddha but it’s cute you called it a Fat Buddha.
    Really enjoyed the floating market and the beautiful artwork in the mosque. The Dikir Barat and the wayang kulit are part of the cultural heritage of Malaysia. May be nice to have a separate video for them to capture the interactive atmosphere of both the stage players and the audience.

      @@JetLagWarriors Basically Aris meant is to preserve Malays arts & architecture in Islamic culture. Afraid from these beautiful amazing Malay art going to slowly forgotten because more mosques adapting Middle Eastern type of architecture.
      Most of traditional mosques & suraus usually by wooden & Malay arts (flowers, nature geometry) architecture like ar-rahman Mosque there rather than Middle Eastern art (linear geometry & dome style). It is philosophically to be together harmony with the nature spiritually.
      If you see some traditional houses such as Rumah Limas (Melaka), Rumah Minang (Negeri Sembilan), they have criterias in adapting hot & humid weather. Loose wooden floor, small high ventilation windows on walls slightly below the ceiling, numerous door & window openings. Similar to Ar-Rahman Mosque there.
      May Saiful & Sharifah have a good days in travelling all over Malaysia!! XD

      Nothing is wrong really.. in my opinion, mosques designs should reflect each country/culture architecture.. the one with the domes are probably great if they are situated in the middle east countries.. mosques in Xian, China for example adopts local Chinese architecture there which is great.. we get the sense of place of each culture/areas... anyways truly enjoy your vlogs and experience.. kudos to both Steve and Ivana!
