- Hitsugaya Toshiro is one of the most popular characters in Tite Kubo's Bleach, and he's kind of the biggest fraud in the entire series. He loses to people he shouldn't, like the Sternritter Cang Du, and since the Thousand Year Blood War arc is entering its second cour, I and @NoOperator wanted to talk about why he's so disappointing.

@@roam980 Funny thing is, I actually realized some time ago that Rukia DOES in fact have one of the better W/L ratios in the series, and is one of the few characters to win more fights than she loses.
But in all seriousness: IMO, the only time Hitsugaya becomes interesting as a character, is when he loses his bankai, thus having to find new ways to fight, without -golden- silver boy prodigy trait to help him. Him combining powers with Matsumoto is a genuinely good moment as it shows how much they can trust each other to work as a team. Too bad it doesn't go anywhere, since he recovers his bankai almost immediately after that... and eventually just gets a free buff that suddenly makes him one of the most OP characters in the verse.
Also, I HATE his fight against Harribel. Many speak of how Renji vs Mask fight breaks established power scaling.
But nobody cares that the same guy who was almost effortlessly overpowered by Espada 6 a weak before, is somehow able to overpower the MOTHERFUGGING Espada 3. You know, the one that's supposed to be stronger than Ulquiorra. Isn't she, based on what we know about power scaling in Bleach, supposed to be faster than him, overpower his icy skills with her rejatsu and be able to just pummel him/ break his bones whenever he tries to block her strike? This is a disappointing display from her side and that fight is one of main reasons many people were disappointed in Espada.
I think if he trained, it makes sense why he lasted longer

Toshiro has his wins and losses, hes popular not because he wins and you seem to think thats a deciding factor while implying his losses should mean hes a fraud yet thats the same argument renji fans use that you seem to not understand, very contradictory and hypocritical logic chain.
The disrespect and bias is crazy, did you forget or just ignore Gentei Kaijo is the reason toshiro didnt easily fold shawlong which limited his power to 1/5 and when removed he one shotted him. Shawlong >>> droy, you cant compare apples to oranges. Same reason as to why renji struggled.
Rukia has 3 wins in cannon bleach (droy, aaroniero, as nodt) and lost 4 (grimmjow, yammy, meninas, riruka)
Toshiro has 4 wins (shawlong, yukio, cang du, charlotte chuhlhourne) toshiro also subdued halibel and luppi. He then fought gerard schrift amp and volstandig amp which even bankai kenpachi didn't fight since he only fought schrift gerard in bankai, without hoffnung and toshiro was making this guy crazy, the 2nd strongest quincy who has the soul kings heart who has subjective reality and probability manip.
Toshiro has 3 losses throughout bleach, two against aizen and one against mayuri since he was a zombie who he did actually kill kinda, the other times involving his near losses included either opponents far stronger than him or he's been nerfed like having his bankai taken. Also toshiro didnt stop fighting cang du when he lost his bankai despite implying that. Reread the manga or just watch the anime.
Your argument is oh lets ignore these things that matter and say he lost to metal guy but he can freeze so it makes no sense. Despite bleach's power system being entirely beholdent to spiritual energy, you know he lost to cang du because he was simply stronger than shikai toshiro and stole his bankai, not a credible argument what so ever, or he lost to arrancar despite shikai rukia beating arrancar, illogical.
You're also downplaying someone on the merits of their loss despite other factors being why hes so popular, like having cool and unique abilities, interesting zanpakuto, potential, fun personality and so on that make characters popular.
You wanted to prove the point why people downplay renji, well you yourself are the prime example of why people downplay renji, by the same means you downplayed toshiro are the same means people downplay renji despite being a great character. I understand the elements of sarcasm and fun but you tried to make a point with the logic of the people you're trying to discredit.

As a Toshiro fan, I can take the flack besides this is pretty funny. He's not known for his wins but his potential. His best show of power is in his zombie form, in which he actually tried to kill people but still failed. Toshiro isnt allowed to kill anyone by Kubo's standard, he has the most non-lethal zanpakto but his Bankai can like do anything.

I can give hitsugaya some credit since he’s only taken 3 L’s throughout the series, but he rarely gets a clean win. Not to mention he’s one of the 13 strongest soul reapers in the gotei 13 and a prodigy, so it makes him look bad.

The first Arancaar you're talking about he had the power limit seal activated and obliterated the Arcanar as soon as it was removed. He effectively kills Halibel and Kang Du, it's just his personality isn't to actually kill people. They're trying to have him be a like a Spiderman/batman esque character.
He pops off against Myuri who only 'wins' because, like every fight he enters he has a plan/device/gadget.
And Gerard is literally immortal and can only be killed by destroying his Quincy cross.
And with Bazz B he didn't have his Bankai at all so you can't really count that one.

I guess I just don't really agree with the people in general saying that he's portrayed as weak.
I think if anything the times he's just charged at Aizen are supposed to show his immaturity/lack of experience, and some of the fights in general, even that he wins, are supposed to highlight his lack of inexperience.
But I think freezing the 3rd Espada solid in her second release (with the implication that if he wanted to shatter her he could) was a pretty decent feat.

I'm relatively new to the Bleach community. I caught up to the manga about a year and some change ago, and started reading about 6 months before. Once I started to interact with the community, I came to a big question. Why do people make fun of Renji so much but not Hitsugaya?

Many people were butthurt that Renji and Rukia became a couple because they head canon shipped Ichigo and Rukia even though the story for a long time hinted at Ichigo/Orihime. I think that is part of the Renji bashing.

Toshiro is a victim of his own popularity. He was used so much that he became one of the go to punching bag of Bleach.
He did get clapped by Bazz B. Doesn't matter if he doesn't have his Bankai, the dude still lost to Bazz B for no reason and probably would've died.

I have always thought that bro was overrated. His most impressive win was definitely Shawlong. All other fights had strange shenanigans taking place.
Toshiro in my opinion is Captain out of need rather than skill. He's only been a captain for 20ish years, has a Bankai but it a nah true Bankai. Which he only gets full powered once. And might not be able to continue to do that phase or transformation. Maybe when he's around 1000 years old he'd be a beast. But he's technically still a baby. Especially when Ichibe, Yama and Kenny being over 1000 years old.

And the aging we do seem for example in turn back the pendulum, he was a 10 year old human boys age, but was only a year younger than Momo. And she was at least a teenage humans age. But Rukia is 800 years old when we see her for the first time. So idk how aging really works tbh.

Simply put: Toshiro sucks BECAUSE he's a prodigy. According to Kubo, he's had bankai since before he graduated the shinigami academy. So any time he faced a problem, he could just throw his bankai at it and be fine. End result: The rest of his skills are complete shit and he's fucked when he faces anyone who can actually match/counter his bankai. It's even why he went and got zanjutsu training after his bankai was stolen. Whereas Soifon was mastering an extremely difficult technique and Komamura was learning a dangerous forbidden art, Toshiro had to learn the basics because he had never needed them before.
Or put another way: Toshiro is the guy who got gifted a level 20 Gyarados at the start of the game then proceeded to use nothing else. It was great for a while, but then he got to the electric gym and got one-shotted because he had nothing to fall back on.

I cannot tell you how much the Bleach community needed this video!!!!! Seriously Toshiro's wank has to stop. A big chunk of the Bleach community always hype him up too much and make him stronger than he actually is, some even hype him up to be 2nd strongest captain after captain commander Kyoraku at the end of the series!!! Like what the hell!! Since I started Bleach in 2007, I knew what a massive joke of a character Toshiro is. I'm just surprised most people are brain dead to notice that. Which is why I think your video was needed to wake people the hell up.
it was a case of rushing the plot in the final arc to finish the story and many characters were just simply there because there were too many to manage properly in a rushed narrative. With the manga the Sternritter all lacked depth of almost any kind. So following the manga weekly at that time felt frustrating as it felt like random enemy 1 and 2 used troll power to beat someone for a new opponent to show up with a new power and then troll that one. The anime has made the arc feel overall better than the manga made it. But still TYBW was a extremely rushed arc overall because the quincy have almost no depth as characters or villains at all and that was my biggest gripe with the final arc overall. A lot of characters got folded just to make the Quincy look powerful to make them a threat without building any of them as characters outside of fights. They could have been built and done way better if more time and depth was given to the final arc, Kubo should have done with others are doing with recent shounens and move them to a non weekly release to he could have taken his time finishing it instead of rushing through it to get it done.

Bankai takes 10 years to achieve and several others tens of years to mature and master Toshiro's Bankai has not even matured yet he is still on levels the of captains Toshiro has had his bankai only for 20 years and Gin is more than 110 years old

1. Rukia is NOT stronger than Aaroniero. Their difference in power is made IMMEDIATELY clear when he uses his resurrecion; she has to kill him by catching him off guard.
2. Cang-Du was defeated by an extremely injured Toshiro so cut him some slack there too.
3. Cang-Du’s Defense is literally capable of blocking a strike from Jugram who is definitively Schutzstaffel Lvl.

I always thought the reason why he couldn't really finish Harribel was because their abilities kept countering one another.
Toshiro can manipulate the water around the atmosphere to try freezing her, but Ice is still another form of water, so Harribel was never in any significant danger since she can create and manipulate existing water freely. It basically makes a back and forth between them as more and more of the atmosphere is made into ice and then made into water (or vice-versa) until one's attack fully overcomes the other. Had Aizen not jumped in to move the plot along, her counterattack made from all the ice created there might have wiped him out
As for Gerrard, the Miracle is basically as it says - it can make "miraculous" things happen, such as surviving being cut in literally half by Kenpachi's bankai or being frozen to the core by Hitsugaya, so I dont quite consider that a mark against him. Nothing short of another "miracle" (Yhwach taking Gerrard out himself) was gonna resolve that
Cang-Du, the only thing I can imagine is that it was similar to As-Nodt in that both Blut and The Iron would keep Hitsugaya's shikai and swordplay from being effective, much like how Senbonzakura literally stabbed As-Nodt all over to no actual effect.

Fun Fact in the Harribel vs Toshiro fight they were both using the moisture in the air. However they both countered each other as Toshiro could freeze the moisture, while Harribel could simply boil the water that Toshiro froze and use that against him.
Also Harribel was stuck and was only freed by wonderwiess's scream.

2. During the fight with Gin, Kira steps in and gets his legs frozen or somethin.
3. I have a bit of a different perspective on his fight with Gin. It turned into a tag team fight after Kira steps in. Why I chalk this fight as a W for Toshiro? Because he incapacitated Gin and dodged his sword. The only reason Gin stayed alive there is because he was also aiming for Hinamori which made Toshiro hesitate. Luckily Rangiku steps in and saves her. (Gin wins in an actual 1v1 to the death I know I'm just stating facts here.
4. When he fucking stabs Hinamori in fake Karakura.
And when he ends up destroying Yumichika and Ikkaku

BUT, that also means he completely sucks. He's the dude who got a level 20 gyarados at the start of the game which was all he used, so he wrecked everything for a while. Then power creep kicks in and he gets fucking wrecked as he faces enemies he can't beat with raw power. It's why he went back and got zanjutsu training after losing his bankai: He had nothing to actually fall back on.

The only reason Hitsugaya loses was because of his soft heart , he never had enough killing intent (except against Aizen, and you know Aizen) and he became zombie when he was exhausted, as confirmed by giselle He can turn anyone a zombie as long as her blood touches them ( dead condition only applies to Quincy)
