  • A quick breakdown of team wipes (also known as squad wipes or aces), where one person takes out the entire opposing team. Is it the ultimate show of skill or something more nuanced? Watch and find out.

    I love Theta jerking his mouse around after waltzy kills 4 people with Lego remaining. Waltzy was absurdly lucky Tempo didn't manage a refrag. Great video showing the fundamentals, Theta.

      Haha, I _almost_ added a little bit of text along the lines of "disappointed mouse movement" but thought it'd be better to leave it as a sort of easter egg. Glad someone spotted it!

    Great video, as always!
    On the few rare occasions I've gotten a team wipe, I've typically mentioned in the tent that the opposing team was either all lined up for me to take down together, or all in the exact positions I expected.
    Exactly as you have described!

    With a decent back catalogue of content, the videos are starting to build on eachother in a way similar to how a thinker or philosophers work informs you better depending on how much of their previous works you have consumed and internalized. For example, this video on its own is fantastic. But I find I get more out of it by linking what Theta is talking about with previous videos like "Skill vs. Luck", "Mistakes", "Technical Aggression", "How to play on a team", his shorts on decision making, and a few others. With these ideas and works internalized you can pull far more out of this 5 minutes than if you look at it purely on its own.
    Dr. Michael Sugrue said about the Platonic Dialogues in a set of lectures that it's helpful to view each dialogue like a building on a campus, and the corpus of work like the campus itself. And here, I'd say, is a similar concept. In Thetas work, view and admire each building on his campus for its complexity and beauty, but don't forget to pull back and view the campus as a whole. This will give you the frame Theta is operating in and how his ideas create one organism.
    P.s. Great work! Please keep it up.

    Great video. I agree: if I see a team wipe happen, I think "something went wrong, or that last player was lucky" rather than "they were extremely skilled".
    That being said, I think the last remaining player has a significant psychological/cognitive advantage--especially if the opposing team doesn't have an accurate kill count. When you are the last one alive, every sound you hear or flicker of movement is immediately processed as "enemy", while the other team has to do some cognitive work to tell friend from foe. Every shot they hear is potentially the loss of a teammate, which must be considered. Any shot that you hear as the last one alive? Unless it's whizzing by your head, you can pretty much ignore it.

      Eh, hard to argue that being last up, especially if it's more than 1v1, is an advantage. You don't have to worry about coordination, but it makes winning substantially harder for a variety of reasons.

    • @ThetaVR
      @ThetaVR  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a couple of loadouts videos in my beginners playlist, I recommend watching those.

    I think i managed to wipe out a entire marsoc team who were on uplink on the map bazar once, because nobody was pulling security on the window i was in.

    Hey theta, I have a huge question. I'm new to onward and I'm wanting to play comp, I was watching your vid from a year ago but I thought maybe you would respond if I comment on this one. I saw that on the vrml discord there is no ORB, could you maybe help me go. To the right direction?

      I'm not sure why it isn't pinned anymore. It should be.

    Theta I love the content. Would you be open to doing some Jiu jitsu concept videos as well?

    • @CalebSpears1
      @CalebSpears1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the way you explain concepts and would love to hear your conceptual Jiu jitsu takes

    • @ThetaVR
      @ThetaVR  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would love to, but I also don't think I'm qualified to do much more than talk about basics. World-class black belts like John Danaher do a better job explaining BJJ than I ever will.
