    Did anyone else notice that 'sandwich' on the counter behind Emily when she's setting up that first tank? A whole jar of mayo between two slices of bread and a container of something else on top?

    I find it hilarious when the tadpoles have no front legs one minute, and then an hour later they have two full front legs. I completely freaked out when my Pacific Chorus Frogs spontaneously popped their front legs within an hour :)

      Gosh, this made me think of a scifi book I read as a kid. Dang, what was it called? A kid inherits an alien 'puppy', that starts growing very quickly. One day, he's giving a good scratch and front legs pop out, scaring the heck out of him. Turned out the puppy was a missing alien queen, who says she's been raising 'john thomases'. lol. I wonder if I can find that book again.

      Hi u prob wont see this but we have just found a TON of frog eggs in our pool and we have no idea how long they’ve been there for (estimate 2days-1week) and have a question Is it possible for them to survive and hatch even after living in chlorine (if it helps we are pretty sure they are green tree frogs)
      Update for anyone wondering they survived they hatched a day after however the two big ones ate all the small ones so it went from 60 tadpoles down to 2

I worked with a nature conservation club for a while, we'd collect frogspawn of the more endangered species in spring and raise them in fishtanks at home, then release them to the spot where we collected their spawn. It was great. sadly because of Covid we didn't get to join the project this year.

    • @freakdelta2824
      @freakdelta2824 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kismecrow Exactly! Same here! I actually have a rehab center about a fifteen minute drive from my house, and I’ve spent a lot of time there since I was little, along with living near a ravine, which likely fostered my love for animals. I’m actually old enough to volunteer next summer and I’m super anxious because it’s been my literal dream since I was two or three. I remember the only times I’d get in trouble at school were when the kids were stamping on ants and wasps or squeezing frogs and I yelled at them or shoved them. We had class pets and they’d be so horrible treated it was sad. I tried my best, like one day I when I was like seven I basically forced my mom to help me walk in the school with a 20 gallon tank for the axolotl, Jerome, but the teacher said it was too big and Jerome wouldn’t like it anyways. I was pretty mad, because at that point Jerome couldn’t even fully stretch out, let alone move and thrive! He was in one of the pet store 2.5 gallons!!! He died two months later. I cried a lot. We also had betta fish, most of which died even with my best efforts of reducing their stress with cardboard blockers and trying to stop every kid from feeding them too much more than once a day, but a lot of them passed anyways (I still feel guilty about this. I’m sorry Rasberry and Blueberry and Echo and Goldy). However, by the end of the school year, three fish were still alive (yes, we had three fish split in a FIVE GALLON) and I was thankfully able to take them home, where two of them, Willow, a beautiful female and Maple, a male, my best friend (I don’t know how I’ll deal when he passes, I try to prepare but it’s tough) got their own ten gallon tanks (it was actually the twenty gallon split into two, and while I generally don’t know if split tanks are the best idea, both fish were fairly docile for bettas so the setup worked) and are both still alive today, though getting old, as this took place more than than years ago. Unfortunately, the third fish, Ducky, passed away after spending about half a year in his five gallon hospital tank with fin healing medicine, antibiotics, Indian almond leaf and almost everything we could do to make Ducky comfortable. Also, since my mom and sister are allergic furry animals (dogs, cats, etc) and my mom is deathly afraid of rodents (which I find silly, I adore hamsters, even though are hard pets to keep, as well as rats and mice) as well as reptiles, so I save my love for reptiles, especially snakes, and amphibians for my fun after school and me and my siblings sunder afternoon adventures. To make up for this, I have garden snails, which are some of my easiest pets to take care of, and some the most rewarding too. I handle them, though not too regularly as they are fragile and am able to educate other kids like me because they aren’t commonly kept pets. My first snail was found under my car tire, they’re shell completely cracked and nearly destroyed, but alive. I named them Betsy. I put calcium supplements and a calcium mix, which I still use to this day and well as veggies and fruits like lettuce and carrots and cucumber into her cage to heal her, and this is still my snails diets to this day. Betsy passed away last winter, which was pretty devastating, but I’ve learned to accept death, it’s a part of caring for life, however I still have 8 snails, two of which are actually descendants of Betsy, Sheldon and Shelby! Other snail babies or rescues were given out to friends or classmates, and since I live in a small town, I still get to see them, which I great. And then, of course, I raise monarchs during the late spring, summer, and early fall months. I usually get about 60 butterflies released a year, my record being 62, but this year was a particularly bad year in my area, with only 46 butterflies released this year from me (a lot of other kids do it too, and we have an annual release on the weekend before school starts!) because a lot of the milkweed was cut down on the maid road to be able to see ahead, which really made me mad. Me and my sister (my assistant) marched straight into the wildlife preservation office (which is a huge accomplishment because we’re both very shy, my brother is usually the talker but he couldn’t come, I forget why) near the animal rehab Center and post office and made our case, and they promised they would not do it next year, because apparently other people had come to see them too. They better hold to that. Finally, I have raised toad tadpoles a few times, almost every spring/summer when I was little! It was an amazing experience. The only reason I haven’t done it again is I’ve been incredibly busy with my fish and my snail business in the summer and my monarchs in the summer. However, writing this comment makes me want to do it again sometime, so I will be sure to make time this spring! Maybe it can be part of a project once I become an official volunteer at the rehab Center (I’ve gone there since I was little, so I know the permanent residents who can’t leave because of too much human interaction as babies and I know the yearly volunteers and the staff). I know little kids love tadpoles. Anyways, if you read this whole comment, THANK YOU. It’s awesome to hear from like minded people, and I’d love to hear some of your stories!

    The front legs on tadpols actually develop inside the skin and kinda pop out fully formed. After the front legs pop out the tails disappear rather quickly.
    Edit: posted this before watching the part where you explained it. I actually learned that like 2 videos before your video came up on my feed. Always learning.

    I know you probably won’t see this but I have a freezing cold pond and it is summer I have 1 tree frog and 1 toad and like 50 tadpoles the water is from our hose and it’s like -65 degrees I don’t have any food for them they are eating algae off of my rocks. They get like 2 hours of sun light a day, They are so happy at my home and I am happy that I have them!

    I loved this video!!! I hope to see your zoo some day, but since I'm from Canada that gets kind of tricky... I'm still deticated to going there!! Keeps it up, and work hard to reach your dreams, officially owning a complete reptile zoo!!!
