    Now that i am here early enough for andy to read this:
    Thanks for the great content! You got me into miniquad racing at a reasonable price with your cheap build, and I got Deviation on a Devo 8s, cant recommend it enough.

    Well, as I bought the 9D+ years ago, I see no reason to get the QX7, but for those just starting, this is certainly a better option than a cheaper TX with few options (like the FlySky, for example). When I got my 9D+, it came with an X8R Sbus RX for $200. I've seen a few dealers with the QX7 listed sub $100 which is a bargain, even if you have to buy yourself a RX and Battery (I have the 2500mah Lumenier 3S in my 9D+). I'm sure you can find a flat 2S or 3S LiPo to fit in that space, as I've seen a couple other reviews, and guys have put those in. In fact, I think they had to add some padding around the battery to keep it from moving around inside. I've never regretted buying the FrSky Taranis 9D+ ... only thing I've done to mine is break off the "toggle" trainer switch when it slid out of the back seat of my car when I opened the back door .. fell on the pavement and broke off. I was initially quite bummed out about it, but since I don't use the trainer port, I've never replaced it. If I do, I may put a simple 2 position switch in there, which I think would be more useful, really. I suspect that this will be a big seller for FrSky .. much more so than the horrid Horus .. ha ha! Cheers!

    Q7 is Modern, looks good and is the answer to all the nice modern looking cheaper units, like the
    Turnigy TGY-i6S ... I held off from buying a Taranis, because of the new Radios that looked better (a much needed revamp) than the old style, time to move on. About time i started on a Futaba and a Grasshopper RC car a long, long time ago ... im buying this 100% Thank you Andy your the man. Great review as always !!!

    Great move from FrSky!
    I'm pretty sure this radio will have a huge success in the mini quad community!
    I will stick with my Taranis Plus for now since i plan to use the sliders on the sides for some FPV planes with a pan/tilt setup ;)

    Great review! I am expecting mine to arrive tomorrow; I’m still a n00b, coming out of only two months of flying my tinyhawk 2 RTF combo (to replace the ungodly remote that came with it) however keeping the box goggles for now and the tinyhawk 2 (has a cooked motor; waiting for a new pack of motors from China; so I’ve ordered the Tinyhawk Freestyle in the meantime.)
    Can’t wait to use your video when it gets here to guide me through.
    Love from the United States!

    Everyone raves about the Taranis, but I can't see any real reason to get one. Have been using a Flysky i6 for a few years now and it does everything I could possibly need, at a fraction of the price :)

    • @qumefox
      @qumefox 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on your situation. If you don't need all the functions and capabilities of a Taranis, it's a waste of money. If you do need them though, it's not. Plain and simple.

    to fix a stripped phillips-head screw cut a slot across the head with a Dremel cutting disc and use a flat blade screwdriver. for the holes that are not threaded in the plastic just run a tap through them and make them threaded. then you will not have problems with stripping the head of the screw. nice review as are all your others.

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      good advice thanks

    • @joef595
      @joef595 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The screws driver needed is PH1. Always use the correct size head for a screw. Cutting a slot in a rung screw for the rear cover is not an option as the screw is recessed into the cover. Also if you are cutting a slot in a screw head with dremel don't cut for too long as the screw will heat up and melt the plastic. It is a miny grinder after all. The later radios have sbus on the bottom.

    Unlike yourself I am new to this hobby(18mths), I own a Yuneec Q5004k for photography purposes and this virtually flies itself.
    I also own a lot of toy grade quadcopters for practising, currently outdoors I am practising with a XK X252. I have reached the stage where I do not like using the toy size transmitters. I have just purchased a Furibee F36 which can be upgraded to use a different transmitter and i intend to build my own or many more in the future.
    After your review and many others I have decided the Taranis Q X7 is the one for me.
    In your opinion should I purchase the FCC version or the EU one (I realise I will have to be careful when selecting rx's).

  • @syluntbob6877

    Again phew, I also bought one of these on a whim before I checked your review! Also on flash sale (gb) £84, bought it for my x140 (£88)along with my Attitude v4 £189. What a setup for £360, well chuffed! I will need to check and receivers i buy are fcc not eu versions, thanks for picking up on that. Cheers 👍

    first off thanks for all the vids youve made. Ive learned so much from you. I am wondering if by chance you noted the clearance on the backside of the gimbals, specifically the distance from the inside of the front cover to the metal parts on the back of the gimbals. I would like to buy it but im partial to a homemade (one-handed[long story, hard to make]) gimbal that requires 1 inch of open depth in the housing to use. Also in motorcycle carbs there are JIS screws that look like ordinary phillips. Using a JIS screwdriver I can put enough torque to snap the screws, but strip easily if I use a "normal" phillips screwdriver. That may be the case with the screws in the Qx7.

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      there looks a fair amount of clearance same as the taranis plus which i have seen people do the same mod to

    Hi Andy. I'm really new to this stuff and I am confused with BG's listing. You can order it with one of these three receiver modules. RX8R, XMPF3E or XSRF3E. What are they for and which do I want?? Is the X7 unit fully functional without a module? Are the modules similar in functionality or completely different? Sorry for barrage of questions but I am pretty clueless at this point of jumping into the quads hobby. The more I look at the more confused I get.

    • @AndyRCchannel
      @AndyRCchannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      the receiver is what you put in the aircraft i think XSRF3E and XMPF3E are both flight controllers and receivers in one. the RX8R is a bog standard receiver personally id rather the choice of having it without receiver as for miniqauds im using x4rsb

    • @wallyo6255

      Cameron L They're two completely types for two different purposes. The evolution is meant to be small and easy to use so you can carry it anywhere. This is for if you want more features while sacrificing simplicity and size.

    • @blackmennewstyle
      @blackmennewstyle 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will add to the answer of Alex West that the more important is to know what you will use the radio for!
      If you will use the radio exclusively for flying mini quads so go for the Evolution however if you think that one day you will use it for airplanes and other kind of RC, i think the Taranis Q7 is a better option :)

    • @joolski
      @joolski 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Evolution is a games console style transmitter, and is perfect for mini quad flying. It's got a cover for the gimbals so you can pretty much chuck it in a bag and it'll be fine. I just chuck mine in the backpack with the lipos and it's fine. Also note, if you are pincher the Evolution does not have a neck strap, and as such you'll have to sit it on your knee to use it.
      FrSky Radios are excellent, and I use them for my RC planes but they just feel like over kill for a mini quad, and I just don't want to carry them about.
      For the price, you can't go wrong, probably with a punt if you are Thumber :-)

    • @ChyaBra
      @ChyaBra 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish I could hold them all. I'm a pincher so I'm not sure how the Evo would feel. I'm also going to be using only one transmitter for all my quads so the module bay is a must.

    I'm looking also for the Frsky taranis Q X 7, but can not find micro receivers with 3 pins S bus for it.
    can you also put receivers from an other brand on this frsky transmitter?

    • @Clickbaiters
      @Clickbaiters 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I realize your post is 11 months old and you most likey already have answers but maybe this will help someone down the line so: Yes, there are plenty of "3" wire SBus receivers available for the Taranis line which includes the X7. There is/are the XSR, R-XSR, XM Plus, etc, etc. Yes, you can use other protocols with the Taranis line of radios BUT you will need to add a multiprotocol module to the expansion bay on the back of Taranis radios.
      OpenTX definitely has a learning curve, especially if you're setting up collective pitch helicopters but once you get it, you realize how amazing these radios are and that's mostly due to OpenTX.

    Mine is stuck "preparing for shipment" though it says it shipped ten days ago. Don't order expecting one anytime soon. Update - 18 days and now they just keep telling me it shipped. Looks like I'm out of $110. Be aware.

    • @pksteffen
      @pksteffen 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, ETA for mine was January 27th. They were in stock on the 25th, but it hadn't shipped. After asking them why there was stock but it had not shipped, it moved to shipped. It has shown ever since as "shipped" but tracking shows as "preparing for shipment" This was meant to be sent Priority Direct Mail. If it has actually shipped, this is not priority shipping. We are approaching two weeks now. They say the New Years has delayed things. I'm left scratching my head.

If you really want to follow the link, just copy the URL and delete the ?p= after the .html at the end so they're not getting rewarded for spam.

      range mode cuts the rang of the tx so what you are experiencing is correct cheers

    • @giorgioc.8394

      Yes but in normal mode the telemetry drops in 30-40 meters, and the rf signal before 200meters.
      It isn't normal

    Hi Andy
    I ordered the QX7 from Quadcopters which came with a EU LBT firmware, but the Holybro X1 ordered from gearbest which I imagine is the non-EU firmware.
    Trying to update my QX7 as follows: th-cam.com/video/0TRppuErdPM/w-d-xo.html
    Still not getting a bind with the XSR.. What am I doing wrong?

      Wendell Deloach go to your local electronics store or eBay, and buy a 2xAA battery holder OR a 4xAA battery holder if you want to charge all 4 at once. The just solder and xt60 or preferred connector and plug it onto your charger in NIMH mode at 1c.

    Short review of someone who has Taranis and turnigy evolution. If you want to race quads, get the evolution. If you want to mess with camera drones or planes, get the taranis. Don't get this white monstrosity that has been knocked out because people are dumping their taranis for evolution left right and centre.
    Using a taranis for quad racing is like taking a desktop PC when you just need a calculator. The evolution, is portable, better to hold, has everything you need for racing, costs a third the amount, and has better gimbals. Buy it. Or if you want the Swiss Army knife, get the taranis. In both case don't get the rubbish thing reviewed. Cheers!

    Don't worry Andy, the solution is simple, Upgrade your old Taranis to the original International Firmware that mine came with....We are dumping the EU and their stupid idiot rules about how your TX boots up. I won't buy anything from T9 Hobbysport unless its non EU Nanny Firmware. Its ok for the rest of the Globe....so its ok with me too.....And you are right, T9 should not force us to buy our new TXs with a receiver in the deal, bad move...agree.
