This musical score is honestly in my top ten favourite scores, the way the movie opens up with that haunting, operatic music, it instantly lets you know what your in for and the score just takes the emotional scenes between Seth and Veronica to another level, amazing film!
5:30 is so damn epic to me, gives me this empty feeling of impending doom. Makes me feel like im back in the 80s again just a kid afraid in my aunts gameroom watching Brundle fly put the gun to his head. Abdolute masterpiece imo.
This is easily the most haunting music for a horror film I've ever heard. It's tragic, it's painful, it's brutal. You feel everything you see in this film through this music.
Rewatched this last night. As an 80’s kid, I remember really liking this. Had not seen it in ages, but with more movie maturity, I never realized how truly great this is. Could have been a little longer to develop more romance between the two main characters which would have made the loss greater. Shore’s score makes a few scenes very haunting.
Jeff Goldblum's with distance best performance ever. I always hated him in his Buckaroo type casting as comedy relief in all kind of movies. But in this movie he was brilliant. An excellent movie blend of drama and horror and topped with a marvelous soundtrack from genius Christopher Young.
I didnt. He was selfish and was willing to sacrifice his woman to become human again. Despite his continuous failures and his wrong doings, he was well aware of his actions and he persued them anyway which ultimatley lead to his demise. The moral of this story is, if you play with fire you will eventualy get burned. He was a prick mid movie and he was a bastered in the end. His final request was just, but well deserved. He tried to achieve his goal at any cost. That makes him dangerous. This resentment i described is highlighted in the second movie through his son. Seth Brundel, while a genius was out of control and so where those who inherited his work. I find it compleltely insane these days that you overly empathetic morons over look this. Had it been you whose arm he broke, vomited on, or draged into the teleporter to save his own life. You would be shedding tears alright. For entirely different reasons.
@@lordraptor5042 ok first of all. Brundlefly was a completely different person than Seth. The insect part of him lacked empathy but the human part of him did and was fighting to hang onto that.
fare enough, still he broke a man arms and takes his victims girl and attempts to drag her in the teleporter, because his current girl wouldn't do it. He still knew right from wrong. In the end he suffered lack of empathy but still knew what he was doing. Only in the end did he consider blowing his head off and only in the end.
Lord Raptor thats an interesting point, how seth goes from a nice funny bloke, to a terrifying presence once his fly genes activate, in the end i dont blame him for trying to teleport Ronnie, imagine going through what he endured, slowly becoming a fly hybrid is like hell, especially with his sanity decaying, he wasn’t really fully seth by the end of the film
5:30 is easily the best part for me, that booming violin perfectly encompasses the sadness, hopelessness and tragedy of the situation, it never ceases to move me to tears
The score is perfect and the movie absolutely is one of the greatest horror movies ever made. There are so many levels of the human condition addressed and they all are addressed in a manner that leaves room for believability. That makes it all the more terrifying and heartbreaking.
The little "dream- like" 1:32 melody is reminiscent of the melody in the Call Of Duty MW "All Ghillied Up" mission. Very cool. Music is the greatest gift we have.
Saw this on hbo at age five when it debuted on hbo with my family and shocked me then saw it again at 11 and been one of my favorite sci-fi horror movies and great score
@@TheLowBrassDude Yes and several serial killer movies, actually. It shows Howard Shore's very large range as a composer. Always doing something a little different in each musical score.
Creepy and scary movie though very interesting and memorable. Jeff goldblum and Geena Davis were great. My son Connor and my husband Stephen loves the fly movies 1 through 2. Even the music is very interesting and lovely.
It's Howard Shore's best score. Shore captured in music the sadness, destruction, and tragedy that resulted from Seth Brundle's hubris and ambition. The plaintive celesta at 1:27-1:54 is haunting.
Dad & I love the movie & it's music too. This music reminds me of as it should've been heard in: 1. Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back & it's Evolution. 2. Pokémon: Mewtwo Returns. 3. That's what The Fly 1986 got. 😱🧑🔬👨🔬🪰🧪
I'm not gonna lie, this is the first horror film that left me genuinely sad at the end.
Same
Saw it in the cinema this week, what a powerhouse! And Howard´s thrilling score!!
That was the point..incredible film
It's less of a horror film and more of a tragedy
I felt very sad & disgusted, both at the same time
And Jeff Goldblum was brilliant in this. Just...brilliant!
I was 14 in 86. Not ashamed to admit, I cried. 😭
I was 1. Cried when I first saw it as a kid. I still cry at 38 years old.
The score encompass the movie well. Genious, madness, the forbidden, inpending doom, romantic, tragedy...its all there.
Movies don't make me cry at all and as a hard ass man in his late 30's it's impossible but this movie gets me every time.
Me too
3:25
My personal favourite.. It's so intense
and it sounds it’s like the actual theme.
This musical score is honestly in my top ten favourite scores, the way the movie opens up with that haunting, operatic music, it instantly lets you know what your in for and the score just takes the emotional scenes between Seth and Veronica to another level, amazing film!
Same fascinating, unique composer as Lord of the Rings/Hobbit trilogies: Howard Shore.
I have listened to this for twenty years and it still breaks me
5:30 is so damn epic to me, gives me this empty feeling of impending doom. Makes me feel like im back in the 80s again just a kid afraid in my aunts gameroom watching Brundle fly put the gun to his head. Abdolute masterpiece imo.
Terrific score. The theme from 1:27-1:54 is dreamlike, otherworldly, haunting, almost like a lullaby.
I agree. Best part of the whole score in my opinion.
@@VLtuber1 what about 4:00 - 6:05?
From the same man who would one day work on Lord of the Rings, you can hear some traces of LOTR themes and motifs if you listen hard enough.
It does have a very emotional flavor, filled with a certain bittersweet sense of emotion and mystery, like the LOTR music he wrote 15 years later.
I feel like he doesn't get alot of recognition for his contributions.
@@RisingBeast00 he doesn't. the films he did before LOTR were mainly horror films.
@@theyautjawarrior6652 he’s done every Cronenberg film since The Brood except for the dead zone i believe
"if you listen hard enough" lmao
The person who disliked this has no musical or film tastes.

why do people have to trigger themselves up to express enjoyment
I guess it's kinda off topic but does anyone know of a good place to watch newly released movies online ?
5:29 is what being doomed sounds like.
Damn straight
I’ll hurt you if you stay.
Heartbreaking.
3:00 AMAZING
0:46 i love how Howard Shore can make you feel impressed (something big is coming)...then terrified and at the end sad with the tone of the music
This is easily the most haunting music for a horror film I've ever heard. It's tragic, it's painful, it's brutal. You feel everything you see in this film through this music.
This is the same guy who did lord of the rings why am I not surprised. The soundtrack is so underrated. 5:29 is especially good in my opinion
I was 16 in 1986 when this movie came out. The ending of the movie brought me to tears. My heart broke for Seth Brundle.
I wish this score got more love, it's one of the best parts of the movie.
tried to write this on my clarinet when at home sick in 5th grade. at 31 i still love it.

This was done by Howard Shore... Or am I missing something?
legofan370 I think he might be confused with the composer of The Fly II which was Christopher Young
From 0:01 - 0:11 really sets off this great theme from "The Fly".
Well yeah because it’s the start of the song
@@Lessembarrassingman .... Exactly.
At the end of fly I damn near shed a tear

Amazing! Just rewatched the movie last night. Thanks for uploading. :)
Such a sad movie. I have never felt that bad for a character ever.

One of my favs and has powerful score howard shore and christopher young are awesome composers.
This film is an absolute masterpiece, right up there with The Exorcist for me.

probably one of the most tragic movie monsters and one of my favorites.
Same composer as Lord of the Rings / Hobbit movies. No wonder it's so good.

This theme is just classical str8 up awesome.
Have you ever heard of...insect politics?
Just realized,,it has the almost a similar melody as with '89 Batman ost.
amazing!
Ah, Howard Shore! If you listen carefully, you can hear slight intimations of The Lord of the Rings. Genius!
‘Disentegrated here.........reintegrated there....it’ll change the world as we know it’

Listening to this now after the review on comPOSERS podcast. Now i need to hear the whole thing!

Great music for RPG background--totally fits with Lord of the Rings, D&D or whatever. Just got the last copy on vinyl on Amazon--lol!
This composer composed lotr as well.
He literally would go on to compose The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and even The Hobbit films
Awesome theme.

Yeah.
To me, this is not a horro film, it is a full-on tragedy.
