Seems dumb but this movie brought me out of depression in college. The line "And I know what I have to do now. I gotta keep breathing. Because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring?" was my motto. I felt like Chuck on that island, but I brought myself back. And now I'm graduated in a full time job. And I've found myself back on that island. I am listening to this to bring myself back again.

As I listen to this song, I think about my wife who has suffered brain damage from a fall in our home due to a high Covid-19 fever. When I visit her it seems that she is somewhere else but in the moment with me at her side. I cry all the time. I feel her pain as she lies in bed for over two months. She loved this movie and this song. Please come back to me, Trudy? From your loving husband - Sal Caradonna

I lost my 2 sons to drugs, 1st one 19 , the 2nd 24. This song breaks me in two parts. 💔. I look for strength to keep moving forward. I think of how final things are. I'll never have another chance to make things right, then my 10 year old grandson moved in with me, now I focus on keeping him safe, it's like it was meant this way. I see new life when I wanted to give up. This song opened my cold heart back up. Everyday I'm working through it. I miss my sons horribly, but now I have new reason to go on. In memory of my 2 sons who have passed. Even though my heart is broken, I find strength to push each day.

I lost a daughter and now are a so much more a part of her children’s lives, 9 and 5 years old. They bring something new in our world, from those that have been lost. Hope lives. It is what we do with it that counts. Carpe diem is the best way to make it mean something I think. They are so young and impressionable. We can still give the good they will remember. Be well.

I first watched it when I was 9. At that time I understood what happened but couldn't comprehend the emotional ordeals that Chuck went through. When I rewatched it for the first time at 11, I cried 5 times throughout the movie. The first time I cried rewatching it, Chuck was kissing his girlfriend. When I watched that, remembering how in the end he never got to be with her even though she was the thing that kept his will to live on the island I really couldn't help myself.

He didn’t face loss because the whole film indicates his destiny wasn’t with Kelly anyway. The island gave him a new path with the woman at the end. She was his destiny, not Kelly.

I first saw this movie 20 years ago. I nearly cried at the goodbye Wilson scene and for a long time thought it was the saddest/most powerful scene in the movie. Now 20 some years later, after rewatching, I have a different opinion. When Chuck manages to beat that final boss tide and is sailing away from the island and yells to himself that he made it and looks back at the island and the soundtrack kicks in for the first time, that moment bought me to tears because it was like finally making it past a hard/dull period in your life but looking back regardless how bad it was, you can't help but feel a bit nostalgic because for a while that was your life. The island was Chuck's home for 4 years. With the uncertainty of his future on the ocean, he knew that regardless of what happens he'll never return to that island again. And another scene was when he said in that monologue towards that end that he's sad he lost Kelly but was glad she was with him on the island. In times of loneliness we cling to whatever we can in order to gain some hope and strength to face the tides that await us. Overall I thought this movie was amazing and it will stick with me for as long as I'll live and I'm grateful that once in a while I'll come back to it hopefully as a better person.

I think what people don't realize is when he looks back at the island as his raft carries him away and this song plays and then when he loses Wilson and this song plays those are pivotal moments to him letting go of his former self. Wilson and the island were the last remnants of his old self...they were what he occupied his time with and where he lived just trying to survive and live another day just hoping that he could go back home to his fiance some day. But he learned that time can steal all in life no matter how strong you are and how good of character you have within you...time can steal many things from you. Apart from the swanky job and cool clothes, the family dinners with 20 family members, his fiance, his bravado as a man, Chuck Noland was a survivor stranded on a deserted island and reinvented himself into a man that appreciated the more simple things in life and had to learn to live without love.

The moment that he turns around to see the island is also the first time that music composed for the film actually appears. There was an Elvis song and some background music very early before the crash, but this is the first time that anything Silvestri composed appears…more than 90 minutes into the movie! There was no music played the entire time he was on the island. I think that’s a brilliant, marvelous touch.

This piece of music is truly something. The emotions, the memories and the way your body and mind feels are all connected. They fluctuated from happiness, sadness, pain and grief. Life is definitely short. Your mind shifts knowing your best friend is gone and the memories that tie to the good times of what you remember with that person can no longer be shared by those who did not live it. RIP Tim M.

"I knew, somehow, that I had to stay alive. Somehow. I had to keep breathing. Even though there was no reason to hope. And all my logic said that I would never see this place again. So that's what I did. I stayed alive. I kept breathing. And one day my logic was proven all wrong because the tide came in, and gave me a sail. And now, here I am. I'm back. In Memphis, talking to you. I have ice in my glass... And I've lost her all over again. I'm so sad that I don't have Kelly. But I'm so grateful that she was with me on that island. And I know what I have to do now. I gotta keep breathing. Because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring?"

(1out of 1,000,000 get it Usually at 70 and up but can happen at earlier ages)
and can happen anywhere from the body and it happened as a Tumor mass in his right lung and eventually went to his left lung it caused Alot of pressure on his lungs and was causing fluid to build up constantly-to cough and hack up clear fluid like saliva.
We thought it was Bronchitis so he took medicine for it(1week) and we saw that it really wasn't working so on one day he got mad and put a hole in the wall in his bedroom.
He had been suffering this for about Four Months since all the way through June 😢 and we just didn't know that eventually it was cancer in his lungs.
The Doctors Tried Everything they could do to keep him alive by doing Radiation Therapy cause they couldn't do surgery (it was too big)
So they tried two treatments of it and the cancer wasn't reacting to the radiation by then he wasn't capable of doing Chemotherapy.
So they put a Ventilator and other things on him and had him on 💯Full life support to Inhale and exhale from the machines that were keeping him alive.
Aventually we had a family Meeting on June 1st to talk about his results and further Progressive treatment if possible but eventually they said this is Imminent to his Health to get any better from this point on. Soo many people were Praying for a Miracle 🙏 that he could make it baby step after baby step. It emotionaly shocked me to hear this so blunt in a Kind of way even though they tried to sugar coat the Evaluation.

Man, i always cry to this song... it touches my entire soul in a way i cannot explain. I think about my grandparents and how i miss them. They raised me since i was a little boy and trough my teenage years. Having losing them was for sure the hardest thing in my entire life... i was 15 years old back then and felt completely lost and hopeless, now i'm 25 and still crying them... and i think it will do it till the day i die. Also i think it's a way of honor and remember them, with joy and sadness. I remember my grandpa saying he still cries thinking of his mom, and he was 86 years old. Some people mean so much to us, the least we can do is remember them and what they mean to us. Moving forward doesn't mean you won't cry no more... that's beyond grief.

You are their hope once and forever. They will live in your soul. Life is hard. Ah, its really hard... But we must fight. There are little happieness in this world. Nothing really matters actually. All humans are lost kids trying to find their way to home. But ın reality, no one really knows where the home is. We must keep searching for future generations so that they wont suffer like us and live a beautiful life. Better than ours. Just try your best and try to find the best for yourself in life. It's significant that the movie's title is "Cast Away," not "Castaway." It's not about being a castaway. It's about casting away, letting go. Everything Hanks does and suffers is to prepare him for the moment when he will meet and love the woman on the angel-branded spread in Texas. She is his destiny, not Kelly, the Helen Hunt character, the woman he loved and lost. She, like so many people in this world, are meant to be with us only for so long. At one point, he said he was sad to lose her but glad she was there with him (in spirit) on that island. Recognizing this, he can go forward.

    @mattc3772 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

This is arguably the best movie Tom ever made. Mainly because unlike most movies that tell a specific story this is a story we can all relate to and learn from. In this life at some point we will experience loss. Sometimes the loss is a divorce, death, a career or physical loss and sometimes we can lose ourselves. This music is a doorway that opens up stories of this in our lives. I can tell you this from personal experience. I was a military aviator and had a wife, 3 kids and brand new house. I was sent on a mission and it was a mission that went horribly wrong. I made it back and eventually got back to my house. I soon found out that it was an empty house and my kids laughter was gone. The military knowing how the mission went sent me to a shrink. They said I had some PTSD and permanently grounded me and I soon also found myself reading divorce papers. The military being grounded from flying then told me I was getting discharged even though I still had 6 years left on my contract. They pushed me out into the street. One day I was sleeping in a brand new 4 bedroom house and another day I found myself sleeping in my van. My soon to be x brother in law returned from IRAQ and was found hanging at his house. It was this movie that reminded me to keep breathing and keep going because you never know what the tide will bring in. So that’s what I did and I started my own business and recently bought a house. If you’re in a dark place keep breathing, keep going because you never know when, what or who the tide will bring in.

I saw this film when I was in the deepest sadness. I had prepared the certification test that I thought I should do, but it was really hard for me to realize I'm not the one who can pass the test. Endless depression came to me and I felt like I was being alone in the island. Now I'm preparing for the other test, and I'm sure this movie saved my life at that time. Thanks Tom Hanks and the director from a student from South Korea.

Recently watched the movie again after some twenty years. Didn’t remember peeling onions the first time. That rainy, emotion packed scene at the end just turned on the waterworks. This music so beautifully captures the film from start to end.

What a great message this movie had. To never give up or give in. Keep waking up every day. Keep breathing. There is always tomorrow. "And this too shall pass".

If you're a Hanks fan, think of the unbelievable run he had in a short time period. Saving Private Ryan, Cast Away and Road to Perdition, all masterpieces, all released within a 3-4 year span. Unreal.

I'm no movie buff, but this is my favorite movie of all time. I can't get over how silent the movie is (80 minutes of on-screen silence in total). However, when it's not silent, it's playing this beautiful orchestral piece. Such phenomenal camerawork, acting, directing, and music.

This is the kind of song that sets the tone for a moment of divine intervention in a world crashing down and falling apart all around you. It's easy to lose sight of what is important in life when all seems lost and the courage to keep moving forward is like a dimly lit candle about to be blown out at the slightest brush of wind. But then you see a little break in the clouds and a tiny ray of light seeps thru. Suddenly you find yourself moving toward it, and you wonder how a broken vessel such as yourself could possibly be drawn to a little light after spending what seems like eternity in your own darkness. Suddenly you realize as you get nearer to that light your spirit is drawn to it, where it has always yearned to be. Once you find yourself out of the darkness and into the light, the weight of the sadness, anger, hurt, bitterness, confusion, and everything that landed you in the very depths of hell no longer linger in your heart and mind. It's the sweetest feeling.

I am 19 so I basically never heard about this movie before. maybe a couple of times but never paid attention to it. just switched to HBO and left it in the background while doing some homework, but coincidentally heard the Soundtrack of this classic. needed to go to TH-cam and... listening to the OST evokes a very strong mixture of feelings like melancholy and sadness Even when I’m actually not feeling that way. I need to watch this movie right now

I remember years back I was working for my dad as usual in the summer, rolling turf at gaydon for the business… it was hard graft at times & quite repetitive but I enjoyed it… I used to play music a lot to pass the time on my headphones as it could be quite lonely going at times - i’ll always remember this track coming on & I fell into an almost trance like state of complete stillness & detachment from my physical surroundings, almost hynotic. I can’t really explain it too well but i’ll know i’ll always remember the feeling on that warm sunny day & finally feeling, albeit maybe briefly - at one with myself & the world… hope I didn’t bore anyone then just thought i’d share my feelings on an incredible piece of music that’s always stayed with me

On the island for years, no music, he sails away and this music begins......and then he looks back to the island as it fades away....and you can just see how much the island meant to him...his savior, his support....and how even what is dear to us must be released. Then he later lets the oar drift away. He lets himself be guided and has found submission. The movie is spiritual on so many levels.
