Manny MUA is a TH-camr, make up artist, and my long lost brother? Well that’s what twitter things anyway. Today I invited Manny to the studio to see if his vast make up knowledge dipped into the world of medicine, and I’m proud to say he knows his stuff. I asked him several controversial questions about make up as it relates to your health. Today we talk about sleeping with your make up on, toxic lipstick, toxic nail polish, children/teen make up use, healthier vs. unhealthier make ups, SPF in your make up, anti-aging wrinkle cremes, washing your brushes, restoring your expired mascara, expired make up, using your fingers instead of a brush, and moisturizer on oily skin. The one thing that I have observed in Dr.Mike when he invites guests on his videos he clearly gives them a lot of respect and allows them to express themselves freely and open up. He also seems very friendly with all of them even. The kind of host I really appreciate.

I love how Dr. Mike clearly adapts socially to whoever is guest starring. Like personal space, acceptable teasing in jokes, people who respond fine to a hand on the shoulder that kind of thing. I love how the guests are so comfortable

Mike and Manny looked like they were separated at birth, one grew up in an emergency room, and the other grew up in a glam room. I can see the resemblance but Manny is the baby one. Had fun watching you two! Both are so pretty to look at.
8:42 I actually purchased some lipstick off Wish and my family joked that it was probably full of lead, so I took one of the lead testing kits we had (we had several on hand for when we were renting and house hunting while I was pregnant), and the cheap Wish lipstick (niceface:brand, I still buy it) didn't even have lead in it, but all my covergirl lipsticks had a range of lead in it. It's a bit startling.
This is not what I expected to find in this video but I'm fascinated. Now I want to do a full deep dive into if certain colors or brands or styles have more or less in them!
There's a documentary about this exactly, how "big brands" even drug store make up brands contain lots of toxic stuff in them.
I tested my designer brand lipsticks (with aluminium foil test) and they have lead.

Yea. Some years back, I did a little home test.
As it was said, you can rub lipstick onto aluminium foil. If it turns black, it has lead.
I had a few old lipsticks that I tested. And the ones that are more expensive and long lasting wear are the ones with lead.
After that, I felt safer using cheaper brands with supposedly simpler ingredients....

I mean, what if you just got a new mascara and didn’t close the lid enough when you put the brush lid on and it was a dry environment, there are limited situation where it would be not a bad solution?
@@MissMeganBeckett I guess that would be better, although the product is still exposed to outside bacteria even if it wasn't in use, just an opening to have a look case. But it's a better scenario than regular, long time use with more exposure to bacteria and drying it out that way, for sure

Dr. Mike is extremely busy and usually doesn't answer individual questions..
As a volunteer at a mental health center, I guarantee your own doctor will advice you for counseling or mental health professional if it's affecting your life. There are also many support groups that may fit into the type of coping you need.
You can almost look up coping techniques for your situation.
I have been looking for the same answer
Years back, I believe he said he personally always sits down with the patient/patient's loved ones and just tells them without trying to sugar coat anything. I think he asked them if they wanted it "straight up" or gently discussed beforehand. He sat with the patient/patient's loved ones so they could ask questions, or if he was suddenly called, made sure there was someone there if they wanted something/for visual support, sort of thing. This is just from my memory, so take this with a grain of salt and I'd say look through his past videos to find the information (i.e. go on his channel page and do a specific search about delivering bad news). I don't know how stretched for time you are when working shift or your position, so keep that in mind for your plan :)

For the oily-dry skin question. Oil does not equal hydration. You CAN have oily skin and dehydrated skin at the same time, on the same area. Dry and dehydrated are not the same thing with skin and scalp. I’m so glad he got that correct!

My face always felt oily, both to the touch and the overall feeling of my face, I had to wash my face my 3 times a day, especially after a meal because it felt disgusting and sticky...
After I just started putting moisturizing facial cream after a shower, it pretty much fixed itself and I only give it a quick wash before bed now (and apply cream). So weird how our bodies work...

Thanks to dermatologists I realized that skin push out more oil to make up for the lack of oil and water in the body to moisturize the skin. That’s why you need to moisturize properly and stay hydrated then skin will be less oily
same! i also had that problem in my hair and started doing a hair mask with coconut oil, honey, and olive oil and my hair can go almost a week without a wash after that

Tip from an EXTREMELY PALE redhead who knows how to use sunscreen: when you put on suncreen before makeup do it right after a shower or face wash (instead of lotion/moisturizer) and sit in the air condition or in front of a fan for like 30 mins to let it kinda soak in and dry some .... or else your makeup is gonna be a greasy mess. You're welcome. xD
Tip from an esthetician! That could be very much due to using the wrong type of spf formula for your skin! You want to use your moisturizers and serums before because the spf could block out and prevent your moisturizers from doing their job! If you’re having an issue with greasy makeup after putting on spf, try using a spray on spf or a thinner/milkier spf that doesn’t get sticky and thick!
For example; when I do wedding makeup, I cleanse the skin, tone, exfoliate, tone again, apply moisturizers and serums, and if the spf I’m using is too thick or if I know it’s going to be too white and make them look sick/ghostly, I’ll mix it with a cream moisturizer to thin it out then apply the makeup last.
They sit very comfortably, despite all the argument

I love Manny and live for him and I love Mike, this collab was inevitable period
I was in 8th grade and there was a dance performance in my school and I had my make up done I felt confident and good with it and one girl just came to me and said that " makeup doesn't look good on you " Before that I might have done make up a couple of times but other than that never in my entire life I have done makeup. In pictures I use filters that makes me look I've make-up on but actually I don't do make up at all . Maybe even slightly at the back of my mind I'm conscious about what that girl saying that I don't look good in makeup ( I'm a kind of person who never cares what anyone thinks about me but make up is something that maybe I just can't do ) or maybe because I actually don't know how to do make up ( I never learnt doing it , I will learn how to do make up soon ✌🏼❤️) .
But I don't think what she said matters because I'm comfortable with absolutely bare face. I feel confident even if I don't do makeup and I think that's great.
There is nothing more attractive than a pretty girl with bare skin who doesn't need makeup to look prettier!

Well, if you’d like to learn, practise, if you don’t then don’t. But we all start from scratch:) And live and learn, I had the dumb idea to pluck the odd eyelashes that bugged me. No one had told me you should not, that they don’t regrow as much as your brows do. Thankfully I randomly mentioned it to my mom and older sister who were horrified. But, to this day 15+ years later, the eye lashes around the eye I plucked still is less thick and curvyxP

I have been watching and enjoying many of your videos lately. It is nice to see doctors that actually care. It took me 2 years to find a doctor that would listen to me and help to figure out what was really wrong with me. I was dealing with a rapid heartbeat, dizziness and fatigue at age 20 and every doctor I saw said it was just anxiety. But I finally found one that listened and checked and ran tests and at 22, I was diagnose with Mitral Valve Regurgitation, past just prolapse. I am 30 now and I am preparing for another ultrasound to see if I need surgery yet. My point is, I just wish more doctors listened to their patients. please keep doing what you do!!!

The answer to Dr. Mike's funny question at 04:25 regarding the "commercial on tv with the guy with the melons" from France is Paris-based cosmetic surgeon Dr. Jean-Louis Sebagh. Cindy Crawford's skin care line Meaningful Beauty was developed in coordination with Dr Sebagh. The ads/commercials showcase melon extract as their exotic specialty ingredient so that consumers think they are getting something unique that no other company has. The melon extract is a nice antioxidant, but it's obviously not the secret of one doctor somewhere in France.
I've never been formally diagnosed with pica or any eating disorders, but I have eaten nail varnish before and not just as a kid. I do still bite my nails but as a smoker that seems to be the most effective way to stop that one bad habit. I've rarely washed my makeup brushes/sponges and I had no idea that make up could expire! Please do more videos like this Dr Mike!

I live in France, in a region where we produce a lot of melons and I've never heard of the so called advantages of using melons on your skin - I would say this is a lot of BS because I've seen a lot of melon products (jam, candies etc) but never skincare. The advantage of melon is the pleasure of eating a good and ripe melon, period 😂
