@@giovannilago6649 Nothing you wrote contradicts the fact that Pokemon isn't entirely original, like everything else. You're saying the series that has been around for 5 years known for it's uqniue take on the genre with it's humor hasn't defined it's own identity? That is your response? Ridiculous.
So this guy clearly didn't continue playing because 1. They nerfed the difficulty 2. There are now stackable exp items 3. The game punishes you for too much grinding on purpose- that was one of its selling points, that everything levels up with you 4. There's an item to avoid wild battles 5. There's a move tutor in every town now 6. There are discount vouchers that STACK and maker items in shops cheaper 7. An item that heals for a percentage AND an item that fills stamina for a percentage after every battle 8. Hidden vaults and caves that can provide plenty of money (and hidden items) 9. Opponents who can be fought again have to be spoken to, they're entirely avoidable. The bandits don't count because there are very clearly a'holes. 10. There comes a point in the story that explains why the nexomon are so tough, so there's a canonical story reason for the difficulty (that they nerfed) 11. Unlike Pokémon, stat changes STAY THROUGHOUT BATTLE. If you raise your attack and switch out, your attack is STILL raised when you switch back in. If you're complaining about difficulty with that large of a handicap, you're playing the wrong games, my dudes. So on and so forth. It's clear he played for an hour and stopped.
@@corxeth1177 it's definitely worth your money. Watch the switch corner review. It is a much detailed and less biased review. Tired of people reviewing games when they have barely put any time in to them...
They nerfed the difficulty? Well, guess I'm not buying it again. That was one of the main reasons I looked forward to buying this game. I always thought Pokemon was for children, hence why the battles were so boringly easy. If Nexomon wants to copy that same braindead difficulty mode, then I don't see a reason to get it.
Considering that the Dev team of Nexomon: Extinction is approx 40 (Programming team is just one guy) as compared to 1000+ for Pokemon, I am blown away by the quality of the game and the rapid succession of QOL updates based on player feedback. Patches have more than addressed our concerns and have made a more fulfilling experience.
Exactly it annoyed me when reviewers forget that. They hear Pokémon clone and if it doesn’t live up to their expectations of a Pokémon game it’s just another cheap knock off.
you'd be surprised to discover how many people ACTUALLY work on the main line pokemon games. Game Freak is a pretty small softwerehouse, they only have 143 emploees in total. However, The Pokemon Company forces them to create a new game every year.
@@sanstheblaster2626 But they are also a part of The Pokemon Company so forcing them doesn't make any sense -- it seems more like they're given a short deadline but are fine either way as long as they can make a working game, because they probably know it'll sell regardless.
@El_Desmond Zavala They are also going to add tamer randomizer in a future update, if they let us randomize everything then the game is going to blow up.
Continue playing Pokémon Sword. Beat the game & get the DLC & start competitive battling. It’s a lot of fun! Get a PC, tablet or phone that can handle all of the emulators that you need to play the older Pokémon games. Get Citra, Desume, Visual Boy Advance, & Dolphin emulators for PC. For Android get Citra, Drastic, John GBAC, & Dolphin emulators so that way you can play the older Pokémon games. Download the Universal Randomizer on your computer so that way you can randomize the generation 1-generation 7 Pokémon games. It’ll make the games a lot more fun to play. Especially if you do different variants of Nuzlockes. Get the newer Pokémon games coming out in November & at the end of January for the Switch. Please continue playing Pokémon games.
Unfortunately the creature designs leave a lot to be desired not to mention there’s not many elemental typings. Can you even do double battles or some type of gym/tournaments/battle tower equivalents? Afraid the post game is non existent idk if I’m gonna buy
This whole review can be summed up with "I didn't play past early game." None of the complaints are valid after a few hours in. Extinction is FAR better than any pokemon game and I say this as a huge pokemon fan.
Thank goodness i found one of your comments on a video about sword and shield, i watched gameplay and even played it on my friends switch and i have to say it's FAR superior to whatever gamefreak released because that is not a pokemon title.
Mons lack move diversity of any kind, enemy mons have double the hp for no reason other than to force you to use potions all the time and that is when you have type advantage. I liked the game but it does have to work out some stuff before it is even on par with Pokemon.
I mean, this guy complains about the difficulty and the stamina bar, but he is fighting a lv13 Nexomon with a lv7 Nexomon... And, btw, Pokemon didn't invent the Super Potion and Max Ether terms. They copied them from previous RPGs.
@@hairykraken3541 no, it's not difficult. I haven't lost once since I started playing a week ago. It's just a normal RPG but people keep comparing it to Pokemon and expect for it to be as easy.
"It's a far less grounded tale than pokemon usually aims for" Yes, a ten year old stops a nationwide criminal organisation and fights mythical monster while adults gawk. Very Grounded.
@Royal Messiah That's your problem with this? Really? I know they aren't all ten, it was a generalization of Pokemon protagonists to show how ungrounded the series is.
I think a more apt description is that the game's story takes itself less serious. All Pokemon games are far and away beyond reality, but they take themselves rather serious, for better or for worse. Meanwhile Nexomon is making references and 4th wall breaks.
The bias in this review is horrendous. I've put over 24hrs into this game. The story is original and engaging compared to Pokemon. The writing is HILARIOUS. Within the first week, the developers launched a patch to fix some of the balance issues and apparently another patch is on the way. Nexomon is a good addition to the monster collecting genre. The graphics are BEAUTIFUL. It's a single player game, not a multiplayer game. It's absolutely NOT just a 'cheap alternative.'
I agree i just beaten the main game at 25 hrs in and i enjoyed most of it. I dont know how the first game was but i didnt think it was that much worse. Although no skates was getting annoying and i had to carry a shit load of potions.
@@davion4777 Meanwhile, all of Coco's lines were my favorites. It told me not to take everything too seriously or too literally. His lines weren't 'supposedly' breaking the 4th wall, they WERE breaking the 4th wall. And I believe that was the point. In the end, someone's cringe is another's humor - and vice versa.
@@MorbidGames666lol that's silly man, the guy literally compared to pokemon every other sentence and said a few things that weren't even true. I went in thinking meh, and ended up loving it. It really surpassed my expectations, I was pleasantly surprised. I actually came in, a week before the patches that fixed all the issues he spoke about and I wasn't that bad. It's also quite weird to call the store unoriginal when pokemon's story is so boring and barley has deviates from the core story line.
I used to get so frustrated how quick the battles were in pokemon and personally I really didn't like multiplayer so this game seems amazing! The way the graphics work is something that I wished Pokémon did with its 3D design in the later games. I can't wait to play this one!
Temtem made me realize how much of current day pokemon I didn't enjoy. The stamina bar is the same as in temtem and I think it's one of the best new features. Though it seems yours drains slower in Nexo and doesn't recover manually. But the longer battles are definitely a good thing. I hated that sword and shield I literally 1 shot 90% of the game with snipe shot lol. All the other pokemon were only ever up to 5 levels behind too. Then my vileplume was OP, no one was able to damage it enough were Giga drain didn't make it useless. The game was unbelievably easy and battles weren't satisfying. Also 1 shot every Gyms Gigantimax lol. Then the 5 star raid battles are so predetermined it loses the fun value after you notice
No joke; Almost every negative he mentioned was a positive in my book. More difficult battles that utilized more of your Nexomon instead of just spamming Super Effective moves? Sounds perfect. No online mode where the "competitive" scene is more like an RNG match. Sounds amazing. No cheesing the game by stockpiling on items. Sounds great. It already sounds better than Pokemon in many regards to me.
I don't see how this is a blatant improvement at al. Pokémon sword/shield has 3d graphics and looks way better imo. Sword/shield have multiplayer, which is almost essential for me to enjoy a game like this especially post game. The way they made this game difficult is gonna make it feel like a grind I think, which is not something I enjoy and I'm glad sword/shield made it so you didn't have to grind much.
@@jopvanhoeflaken Oof. Graphics a game does not make. Pokemon may be in 3D, now, but wow is it a cheap product. Balance is awful with battles completely relying on the "super effective" mechanic being the only viable way to play. Animations are cheap, yet their excuse for limiting Pokemon was to work on the animations (which is probably one of the worst in the series). The MP system is clunky - to say the *very* least. It's difficult to actually meet up with your friend in game. The systems and menu to even do so is another abhorrent UI/UX design just to be able to do so. The open world fields are a mess with Pokemon loading in and out in split seconds right in front of you. The difficulty of the game is absolutely brain-dead easy with *no* challenge to speak of and just rests on its laurels. They heal you before a "surprise" match. Their Pokemon are underleveled. They don't even have a full roster most of the time. Gigantimax is a gimmick where you want to hold off until *they* use it. Then you gigamax, use your abilities - boom. You win. The abilities in gigamax form are also just based off the elements and not large forms of the singular ability. Not all Pokemon can even max, too. The new Pokemon game *screams* bloody fucking murder that it is a cheap product. You can enjoy the game! That's fine! But don't let enjoyment cloud your judgement that it is legitimately the worst product Pokemon has ever produced.
@@jopvanhoeflaken Sword and Shield had 3D graphics that were an improvement since X and Y, the years the models they currently use were made in as a means to future proof production, and yet they still failed to do so.
This review does not give this game justice. It’s an indie game and I don’t see the lack of multiplayer as a negative. I mostly played the game because I feel in love with the app and wanted to continue playing the story in the sequel. 6/10 is a bad review it at least deserves a 8/10. But personally I would give the game a 9 or a 10/10
I haven't died yet and my nexomon are all around level 15. I'm absolutely loving this game so far. Combat is fast and easy to understand. I love that it provides a nice challenge and I actually get to use my potions regularly instead of almost never like in Pokémon. The writing is good imo also. I love the satirical/sarcastic nature of the npcs and I've actually laughed a few times during the story so far. My only issue (sort of) is the opponent getting a free hit on your nexomon if you switch them out or one faints in an active battle. Not a deal breaker though.
I feel this review is far too critical in many aspects and is a tad uneducated. Pokemon never coined potions or ethers, that has been a RPG staple for years. The writing also seems to come from someone who only played the DS Pokemon titles and not the GB/GBA games. The lack of multiplayer isn't really that bothersome. It's a single player experience through and through, which is quite refreshing considering Pokemon lately just wants you to battle, learn about battles, be better at battles, battle gyms, battle trainers, battle the elite four, become a battle champion...blah blah blah just so you can battle online. Plus the devs probably didn't have the resources to put into multiplayer, this isn't a multi-million dollar company like Game Freak. The slow paced battles point seems very nitpicky as this is akin to classic, more strategic Pokemon battling, instead of the flashy one shot winning moves that are in the current games. This game is more for the Pokemon vets that grew up along with 90s games and know what it feels like to have to grind, and use your entire team, instead of being spoon fed overpowered starters and getting weak gym leaders. Nexomon doesn't even have gym leaders by the way, they are replaced with legitimate bosses. Also comparing the styling to B&W was kind of weird, these 2D sprites look far more stylish and anime-like than the awful 3D wanna be chunky pixel sprites from B&W. HG&SS had the best art direction and sprite designs of older Pokemon games imo. The difficulty isn't too bad either, sure the game will kick your ass in the first couple of hours, but once you start getting cores to increase experience gain and stats it becomes far easier. The game also encourages exploring, crafting items, and doing sidequests for rewards instead of buying everything, which is why items are so expensive. Also the complaint about catching the starters is really dumb, how else are you going to fill up the database if the game has no multiplayer and isn't scamming you with multiple versions to choose from? Overall, if you are looking for a more legitimate old school Pokemon game experience, but with more traditional RPG mechanics, and a more in-depth story I'd recommend this way more than what SW&SH offer. Also, I don't fully believe this game to be a straight clone of Pokemon either, it has its own identity for sure, and for a game that's less than 30 bucks it's an absolute bargain.
@@MechaDray I agree with that everyone has their opinions and for a review his did lean more on the negative side calling the game a cheap version of Pokemon, and I respect their opinion. Maybe if it was written a little clearer in terms of talking about everything the game has both positive and negative. It probably would be received better. The review just comes off more as someone who doesn't have too much general knowledge about JRPGs and old school Pokemon which is what Nexomon was obviously inspired by. At the end of the day gaming is gaming and some people just have more fun with certain games than others, and that's the beauty of it.
SamWiseGaming This is true. He leaned way too heavily on the pokemon comparison, and used Pokemon as a base to criticize Nexomon when the Pokemon franchise has never been perfect. It’s only the most recognized worldwide in this type of genre, not the ideal.
I don't feel he was saying Pokemon created potions and ethers but it was difficult to separate the two due to how similar in feel they are. I haven't played the game and frankly wasn't planning on picking it up but the game had picked up steam so I thought I'd take a look. This looks like a mobile title and I do believe the first one is available at least on Android. I like the idea of stamina bars and not being able to spam moves to make battles more strategic. For an indie title I'm pretty excited about what this might mean with all the coverage and support it seems to be receiving. With a larger team and more resources I bet a lot of these gripes which seem pretty minor in the grand scheme could be ironed out.
@@michaelehrhardt9221 The way the review is edited there's this weird pause and zoom where they point out the potions and ethers and then he proceeds to push that they'll compare the game to Pokemon. This leads to the viewer to purposely think that the reviewer believes Pokemon invented the potion and ether system. As I have mentioned before the review would've been better received if the writing was done more efficiently and covered more parts of the game instead of "This is a cheap Pokemon ripoff and we'll review it as such" which is clearly how it comes off as. Yes the visuals are of a mobile game to an extent, but Pokemon has been a mobile game for the past two decades, so I don't see any problem visually, and the animated sprite designs are done beautifully. Is the game perfect? Absolutely not, but it is a more entertaining experience than what SW/SH had to offer. I really wanted to like SW/SH, but it just felt...off. Nexomon is a great throw back to old school monster taming games with some modern touches, and the devs have been releasing some patches that have already addressed the balancing issues, so battles don't feel nearly has rough, but still offer a good challenge.
I posted a reply already but I watched this and it kinda made me not excited for it but after playing this game I loved it. The review sucks and doesn’t give you a good idea of what the games about. It feels like a hit piece that seeks to get people to not wanna try it out.
Because with the amount of cheap games people buy on digital stores these days most of the time those games only sell when they go on sale. In general people seem to hate spending money on anything even if they really want it.
@@mossmother3768 not lazy, they just have no time to make the games. The Pokemon company is greedy as hell and just wants game freak to pump out games as fast as possible, making as much money as possible.
@@Happymonday2015 savior of some smart people! I hope more would get that it's not, or not 100% game freaks fault. Also, I think another major problem us that probably they get a lot of money for every game, but the people who were their from red and green are very tired of remaking the same stuff over and over for 20+ years. I think they should take breaks from Pokémon and experiment with new ips to refresh their creativity. Sadly, that's not possible
At first I thought this was going to be another cheap, cash grab off the Pokémon name. But honestly this game feels like a lot of time and effort was put into making a good Pokémon alternative. The main Pokémon series has had ZERO competition for years and the lack of polish and innovation in sword/shield definitely shows it. You can tell that the devs of Nexomon enjoy Pokémon and RPGs as a whole and want to push the “monster catching” genre forward. And for that I’ll definitely look forward to what they have in store next.
Woooow. This review was written _way_ too soon. The game is constantly receiving patches based on feedback _from players._ Your most valid concerns have already been addressed; difficulty has been toned down, and multiplayer might be added if things go smoothly enough (they tried having it in the first installment, didn't go well). Also, you no longer get jumped by rematches - you have to talk to them to battle them again.
I mean that's arguable but the you gotta admit the no online is kind of a killer. I'm still gonna play regardless. I personally think Pokemon is still better. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because it's newer but when I have Nexomon's learning moves they already know, that's a huge flaw for me.
@@intellygent-alienking5651 The original game got online. I think they are just prioritizing polishing and balancing the base game before adding multiplayer.

With Pokemon, Digimon, Shin Megami Tensai / Persona, TemTem- Nexomon, Coromon, Ploxmon, Kindred Fates, Monster Crown, Monster Tamer, Monster Sanctuary, Monster Breeder, Siralim, Anitons, Cassette Beasts, Nino Kuni, Yo Kai Watch etc it's a good time to be a fan of the Monster Taming Genre
I'm a Pokemon fan since 2000 and I got to admit that Nexomon: Extinction has by far best story than any Pokemon generation I've played. I spent 23 hours to complete it and I'm very satisfied.
Digimon Story: Cyber-Sleuth offers two games that play very differently from Pokémon while still being Mon-Games at their core, and is often on sale. (The Story series are more like SMT meets Pokémon, the World series is the one grounded in Digimon's roots as Tamagotchi's heir that fights.)
This game has also been released on PS4, so now I can play a Pokemon game on my console :-) And there have already been quite a few patches making the game a bit easier, and making the tamers you meet on your voyages run less towards.
Came to this review interested in what it had to say, and while it did make a few valid points, the comments are what have left me educated. Your review is clearly skewed when the youtube comments section is doing a better job than you. As a long time fan of pokemon who is truly sick of the new direction since the 6th gen, I eagerly await a game with similar mechanics but actual challenge. Imagine thinking that lower resources to introduce some challenge in resource management is a bad idea. Or imagine thinking that more strategic gameplay through longer and more challenging battles is a bad thing. Yet again I'm astounded by how blinded people are by their pokemon favoritism.
Good video! But... I know is similar to Pokemon, but you should not compare this game to Pokemon. You expect better features than Pokemon and then you wanted features of Pokemon that are not in this game. This Studio is starting with their project and I think Nexomon can be something good just let them grow. For the price, content, visuals, and difficulty is worth it to me. Is something different, the budget of the Pokemon games is way higher, Nintendo/gamefreak can produce any Pokemon game and is going to sell well. For this Studio I think is great that they released their second game. I’m sure they are going to improve their games in the future just like Pokemon when it started...
Also, when every other monster collector rpg advertises himself (see temtem) they say things like: "we are trying to make a better multi-player than Pokémon" etc. Instead, nexomon didn't put himself in comparison with the titan once,so I think they are trying to not be compared.
Most actual pokemon fans would like to play something similar even if a fair bit of it is borrowed from Pokemon. Only the Pokémon stans that love Pokémon too much, to the extent that they pretend it's perfect in every way that will say this game is a shameless knockoff that isn't worth playing. And this is coming from someone that defends Sword and Shield, or at least I don't believe it deserves anywhere near as much hatred as it received.
Playing the game. The game is quite cheap now and it has a 10% off. I love Pokemon, Digimon, Yo Kai watch, World of Final Fantasy. Anything with Monsters I will like it!
@@QueenTwilightSparkle1 It is a very story based and focuses on a young boy whose mother is taken. He travels to another world to save his mother and ends up collecting some creatures along the way to help him fight others. It is made in the same style as studio Ghibli movies if you know them.
I think the thing that kept it from being absolutely perfect was that we dont see overworld NPCs interracting with Nexomon. I would have loved to see Nexomon be other humans’ companions, maybe see our ally’s Nexomon. But aside from that, I honestly cannot put it down. It’s a delightful game, that addresses things that Pokemon doesnt.
Honestly having put a couple hours into this I'm really enjoying it. Battles are a bit more tedious than I'd like, but I'll take it over the more recent Pokemon games where there's no challenge or sense of earned reward. For less than 20 bucks I'd say this is pretty good. The game play is pretty fun, the designs for the monsters are a bit hit and miss, but there's some winning creatures in here.
This review was insanely biased, unfair and way too critical... I've clocked in around 35 hours last time I checked and the game has been amazing with so much to do. And the story was in fact pretty darn original. Don't listen to the review the game is easily worth the price. 35 hours without finishing it is a lot of content for the price especially since it's great content
This review felt kind of petty. They just made fun of and complained about small things like names of items and stuff. Also I feel like it was too harsh I mean it really rare for an company that makes apps to get their game on consoles and personally it looks really good. Anot
Another thing is that they are still improving, they listen to the players and actually change the game to make it a better experience. When has pokemon done that?
he didnt just complain about the small things. He gave the game a lot of praise in certain areas. He even said that the game is worth getting if you;re a fan of pokemon. It sounds like yall are a bunch of nexomon faboys who hate this guy because he didn't give this game a 10/10
Bought it a few days ago, and now it’s been 37 in game hours later. It was a amazing trip all the way through. Even now after just finishing it there seems to be a good post game. It is very worth it.
This review is more like a comparison of two monster hunting games. Half of the time they are whining about how "It's too hard!!", is this a bad thing? If anything it drives you to get better nexomon and think of strategies, rather than blindly pressing the A button.
How the crap does this 2d game from a smaller studio look so much more visually appealing than D/P remake or freaking sword and shield with their massive budget and the fact they’ve been iterating upon the same game for decades ?
been very excited for this one! I hope it's as good as it looks! With how stifled pokemon has become recently it's nice to see them finally getting some competition. Also just saying but the items like ethers and super potions are more of a general RPG thing, not just pokemon. Final Fantasy did it first! :P Also don't agree with your critiques regarding multiplayer at all but hey ho.
@@wolfzmusic9706 you don't have to be innovative in order to compete with other similar brands though? Wild Portrait Artist well if it’s the same, why would people buy it? pokemon is well-known, this isn’t so people will continue to buy pokemon. where’s the competition? imo all the pokemon games are the same. i don’t really see a difference between the DS games and the 3DS ones.
Please do take the review with a grain of salt, as its interpretation does not reflect the viewers but rather the people hosting the video. That being said, however, I will draw attention to an interesting phrase I heard, and it stuck with me for the remainder of this review. 0:31"We're going to go into this entire review without comparing Nexomon: Extinction to Pokemon." --And then proceeds to compare it to Pokemon throughout the entire video, down to its Poke Balls, Not-Poke Centers, Battle Template, Nexomon Design and more. Not to say the video doesn't have some aspects that I can appreciate or at least measure its value to my perceptions, but I couldn't help but robot-voice-insert "Temtem" rather than "Pokemon" just so that their statement was accurate.
Yeah I played the mobile game and am currently disappointed by how crappy the experience on this one is at the moment. They need to patch a lot of sith on this game.
6/10 that's a bit of a harsh rating when comparing to some of the newer Pokemon games I think this game comes out ahead, Nexomon in my opinion is an 8.5/10
I can get the comparisons to Pokemon. But sometimes comparing two similar items can do both a disservice. It can also cause a form of aversion to change. Say if you prefer the casualness of pokemon, you're likely not gonna want to put up with the grind in nexomon.
I feel like if they do a patch and fix the 3 things mentioned in this review - lack of money/items, stamina maybe not drain too much, and maybe add a difficulty setting - they could have something even better on thier hands. Might wait for a sale, but it's still on my radar for sure.
Is gonna be a free major update post launch to resolve some issues, add some quality of life change and more. I see ppl plating this on youtube and they dont see having problems with the difficult, guess ppl are spoil with the dead brain difficult in pkmn games this days
I’m sorry but this review is very bad and biased. This game is far better than Pokemon will ever be now and just a FYI ethers and potions have been in RPGs long before Pokemon even existed. There's more to gaming than Pokemon and there were monster training type games before Pokemon as well. Honestly it gets on my damn nerves the way people always have to compare everything to Pokemon, please stop doing that.
Some reviewers are only good at reviewing action games like mega man, donkey kong type of games, I think nintendo life, gamexplain, and countless others are like that. Real rpg reviewers wouldn't put this one down, this one is a hidden gem and I think well designed and well paced and full of surprises. I don't trust any game reviews that those reviewers made regarding RPGs, only look at other reviewers for those type of games.
because he is prob bias to pokemon and trying to suck up to the bigger company in hopes to get free stuff or sponsorships from them over this smaller company/game. That's why you can't rely on youtube reviewers these days. They just suck up to companies to get free stuff instead of telling honest reviews.
I'm glad that the game has gotten patched, and said patches seem to have addressed most of the complaints in this review. I am downloading this game as we speak. Honestly, my only beef with the game is that some designs feel extremely similar to some pokemon designs, but then again it's not a huge downside, and it's fun to see a not-Krokorok and not-Vikivolt in action.
If you're scrolling through the comments don't take this guy's review serious. The game is basically everything Pokémon fans complain about except they actually listen to the fans. Plus someone with a channel dedicated to Nintendo is completely gonna come off bias. Just my opinion
Same, I hate it when people call this a ripoff, despite all the videos made saying these types of games are not ripoffs, Pokémon fans still talk about them being ripoffs, and then you have your occasional “Hey lets make fun of peoples opinions, they don’t matter”, all this makes me not want to be a fan anymore
Reviewer: before we start lets get one thing straight here " we will not compare Nexomon to pokemon during this review" me: sweet Reviewer: compares the two for majority of this video. me:
The negatives pointed out aren't well researched at all. Very shoddy review. - First of all why is every monster catching game a "Pokemon clone" and every platformer not a "Mario clone"? Double standards. It's not a cheap rip off, it's made by a small dev team with like 1/10000000 of the budget Pokemon games get, yet surpasses them in many aspects. - The battles are no where near as slow as Pokemons. I hate grinding Pokemon as it can take more than minuet for an average encounter, yet Nexomon's battles can be over with in seconds. They're snappy and make grinding fun. - LMAO at praising the trainer rematches, then saying they happen too frequently. Mate, you have to be 2 spaces away from them for them to trigger. They can very easily be avoided. Its a good system you just needlessly criticised. - It's a hard game, yes, but better than Pokemon's brain dead and unengaging main story, where you can basically select any move and 1 shot the opponent. At least this requires thought, plus the devs are adding a patch to lower the difficulty anyway. - The story is fleshed out more compared to Pokemon, and I don't understand how the latters is more grounded. R/S/E literally had the main villains trying to flood the world because reasons and only a ten year old can stop them. At least Nexomon goes out of it's way to give you lore and is cohesive. Its a great game, that gives the worlds nuber 1 franchise a run for its money. But nah lets shit on it because it has ethers... like most other JRPGS.
I would like to correct the tidbit about the economy of this game. It’s quite generous because you earn money by killing trash mobs, about one potion per battle plus some. In the start of the game you can kill the lvl 4-6 mobs earning about 66g a kill and healing at the spirit dude. In about thirty minutes of grinding you can start the game off will well over 5000g! This makes the beginning of the game go by really smoothly as you can stock up on nearly 100 potions right off the bat. Which lets you go through longer stretches of the wild without having to back track to a healer.
Rematches are avoidable by the way. You can't avoid the bandits because the in story explanation...is that they're bandits and want to rob you. Like bandit would in real life. And some of them you can skirt around. This review is awful and they didn't play past the first area I see.
Still better than whatever Pokemon is anymore by far. I bought the two games last week and just started paying the first one. I really enjoy playing it so far. Much better than Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. As far as best Pokemon goes let's go and Arceus are much better. I love how this series offers challenge and although it's annoying, it still provides timing strategies that people need to be aware of. Nexomon has made me laugh more than any Pokemon game ever has been before.
Life long Pokemon fan and player here. I am playing this now, this game is everything that Sword and Shield should have been. I hope this catches on and Gamefreak are forced to put more effort into their games in future.
There is something to be said of the inclusion of character art during dialog. Having tiny sprite or models has never cut it for me in Pokemon games when it comes to expressing dialog.
i'd like to try this game because me and a friend have been tossing around ideas for a monster catching game and it'd be great to have more of a pool to learn from, but overall in terms of presentation i'm not sure i care too much for it. i'm not really interested in games trying to recreate the feel and aesthetic of the pokémon world, (which this seems to do from the footage, though i haven't played it so obviously i can't pass judgement on if it does so) i'd much prefer they do their own thing. i also have to disagree on the design front. they have a higher average quality than say, temtem, but i still don't particularly care for them too much personally
Graphically this game looks infinitely better than Sword and Shield does. Which is amazing to me considering Pokemon is a billion dollar franchise and graphically those games continue to look dated on release. Also, giving this a 6/10 doesn't exactly line up with the review IMO. Sounded like it was more of a 7.
I gave the current (updated) version of the game a shot and as many other comments are saying, most of the perceived issues in this review were addressed due to player feedback. Multiplayer would be a nice patch eventually, but I've already gotten 6+ hours in a week so clearly I'm getting my money's worth with the game as is.
Why is that even a question? It became very obvious he was when he said 'well, guess we are going to compare it to pokemon'. And even before that...he was quite sarcastic so yea.
Just found out about this game after the palworld controversy and I get that this is obviously very similar to Pokémon but the comments about the item names?! Those are just standard JRPG item names… super potion is just as common as hi-potion. same with max ether or max potion. Seems like a silly thing to harp on
If you like the idea of a more difficult Pokemon-like game, look up Temtem. While this game looks fun, too, just thought I'd mention it since I think it looks a bit more fleshed out with more end-game content than Nexomon, while still having a lot of the 'new' ideas Nexomon brings (like a stamina system, etc.).
Completely disagree with the score. I found this to be way better than anything pokemon has put out in years, and that's coming from someone who played every single entry in the franchise. Only thing really missing is multiplayer trading and battling, that's it. Otherwise it's a solid 8. To anyone disappointed with the latest pokèmon games, which basically play themselves at this point, play this. You won't regret it.
I 100% agree with you. Some parts are still a littly buggy but I am sure they patch it. This game is so much fun, you have sidequests (nintendo lacks here) and a tone of querky side charakters. And an changing environment and other dialoges people have depending on were in the story you are. Also the story is extremly different to pokemon. Yes there are some similarities but the differ more than this review made it sound.
I thought you were joking when you said you'd compare this to pokemon at the start... Lots of people (if not the vast majority) play through each of the pokemon games, play the post game, and don't go much further than that. There is a smaller percentage of people who actually play the game a lot AFTER the post game (e.g. competitive battling). You sound like one of these people when you complain about there being no multiplayer... For the majority its not a problem! Stop giving your own opinion in a review that is supposed to tell someone if the game is worth it... You should be giving a review based on the general demographic!
No offense man, but you gotta lay off the crack pipe. Reviews are subjective opinions held by the reviewer. What you're implying is that he should review the game based on an opinion he doesn't genuinely hold? Wtf are you talking about.
Yo, I’m an avid Pokémon fan and anyone who says this game is just a cheap Pokémon ripoff/clone/knockoff has obviously never played it for themselves. The story and dialogue is great. I think you definitely have to take the time to remember that this game is meant to parody other rpg games similar to Pokémon, so they don’t take themselves as seriously as a typically rpg (you’ll notice this if you read the dialogue. I enjoy the level scaling based off the story. This allows you to train and grind in more than just one or two areas. The addition of thing like cores is definitely a neat touch as well. The battle system is definitely an improvement on the original game. Is it as good as Pokémon? Well I think that just depends on what you like. I personally thing that Pokémon’s battle system is more complicated and in depth compared to Nexomon, but Nexomon also has a good battle system and the battles are actually a challenge. You will need to grind for exp in the game, I can assure you of that. Now, I will admit for beginners it may be hard to first start the game since you don’t have any cores or many to share the exp or get larger amounts, plus you’re pretty dirt poor and don’t have access to the warps for awhile. And tbh you’ll probably have some close faints (meaning of one of your Nexomon, if you grind, have decent common sense, with a little luck and strategy thrown in you shouldn’t lose often or at all in a battle) in battles unless you’re 8-10+ levels higher). So don’t expect to plow through the game in a few hours with just one or two of your Nexomon. You will actually need a balanced team that can handle different types. On top of battle system and difficulty, the designs are pretty nice (though they massacred some of the Legendaries from the original game). Plus it’s a fairly open world game, even before the tutorial there’s a lot you can explore. The game also has a lot of content, I think I finished the main story at about 34 hours (mind you I do enjoy taking my time and grinding up, so you could probably complete it faster if you wanted to). And while story wise there isn’t much of a post game there’s a lot of Legendaries to capture as well as completing the dex (and no stupid trade evolutions or version exclusives). The post game (depending on how fast you did the main story) can definitely take awhile as well. I know this comment was just me rambling but I suggest that you definitely give Nexomon a try. If you can I suggest getting the original Nexomon first (it can be found on mobile for .99 USD). You don’t need to but you’ll appreciate the story and references more in extinction as well as have a better understanding of the story in general.
What a fascinatingly bad review. Maybe try to review a game for what it is, instead of what it isn't? Stating that it's clearly influenced by pokemon does not need to be repeated every 20 seconds. Ends up sounding more like a petty fanboy looking for charmander than a legitimate review of the content.
From this reviewer(bias) i wouldnt buy it, but after read alot of comments talking about trying the game and game getting patchs that fixed the game problems, now i have to buy. A big tks to the chat community.
Best game ive played since pokemon gold and silver! Holy shit was that a pleasant surprise I have now played through both nexomon 1 and nexomon 2 extinction and let me just tell you Pokemon WISHES IT WAS THIS GOOD. Im all in on Nexomon and looking forward to the "Nexomon Abyssals FREE DLC on its way to our switch! (yeah thats happening)
STOP.COMPARING.MONSTER.HUNTERS.TO.POKEMON. Yes the game obviously takes some stuff from Pokémon but holy shit Pokémon has been out for decades it is literally the face of the monster taming genre after a shit ton of games there’s not much other competitors can do that Pokémon hasn’t done already, the same case with all the shooter games that are literally carbon copies of each other. Take the game for what it is. It is definitely better than 6/10 all these Pokémon nerds that refuse to let any other games like this succeed is a shame because the game is actually really good and a nice refresher to the genre. It’s is more difficult which is a good thing to old Pokémon players who think the newer games are too easy
Sooo, it's better than Pokemon in every possible way, outside a lack of multiplayer. Got it. Not oneshotting everything with OP supereffective bonuses is a huuuuge improvement. Honestly if you are giving this a 6/10 for all it's improvements over Pokemon. Then Sword/Shield should be like a 2/10
The only complaint I agree with is the lack of pvp and the rest of your complaints are just not true unless you hate games that have some difficulty. It’s really not that hard to catch all the nexamon. money is really easy to come by. With the food it makes it super easy to catch things as well the food is also super cheap... The trainers being able to battle every hour or so is a great thing as well.. Also the humor in the game is not something that hurts the game. It makes it not feel like a dull and generic game like pokémon sword. I rate the game a 7 out of 10. The story was a 9 out of 10 it didn’t feel boring like Pokémon’s boring storyline.
Ether and potions has been an RPG staple item since 1989

Nothing you wrote contradicts the fact that Pokemon isn't entirely original, like everything else.
You're saying the series that has been around for 5 years known for it's uqniue take on the genre with it's humor hasn't defined it's own identity? That is your response? Ridiculous.
So this guy clearly didn't continue playing because
1. They nerfed the difficulty
2. There are now stackable exp items
3. The game punishes you for too much grinding on purpose- that was one of its selling points, that everything levels up with you
4. There's an item to avoid wild battles
5. There's a move tutor in every town now
6. There are discount vouchers that STACK and maker items in shops cheaper
7. An item that heals for a percentage AND an item that fills stamina for a percentage after every battle
8. Hidden vaults and caves that can provide plenty of money (and hidden items)
9. Opponents who can be fought again have to be spoken to, they're entirely avoidable. The bandits don't count because there are very clearly a'holes.
10. There comes a point in the story that explains why the nexomon are so tough, so there's a canonical story reason for the difficulty (that they nerfed)
Also I’m pretty sure multiplayer will come back. IDK how many people know this but there is a game before this game that was on the Apple store
I’m gld i came to the comments..... 2 reviews in a row stating decent. But essentially riddled with gameplay choices that hold it back. ???
@@corxeth1177 its good
@@corxeth1177 it's definitely worth your money.
Content and story are top-notch as well.
Gamefreak are overrated and also they have sub groups that do app games like niantic who did pokemon go
Exactly it annoyed me when reviewers forget that.
Oh wow. Pokemon with increased difficulty and somewhat interesting dialogue? I'm in.
Some dialogue is genius. The cat-like creature that speaks is the most meta character I've ever seen. And the story is pretty epic too
@Federico Savorani I'm sure that Coco was inspired by Kazooie, she also insults people and constantly breaks the 4th wall.
The story is way better than Pokémon, you will see the plot twist at the second half of the game
@El_Desmond Zavala They are also going to add tamer randomizer in a future update, if they let us randomize everything then the game is going to blow up.
@@expansionpackdeluxe636 there's going to be a randomizer? Is that confirmed? I'm debating whether or not I should buy this game.
To be honest. I finished this game, while I dropped pokemon sword halfway through the game. This game just has so much charm.

This whole review can be summed up with "I didn't play past early game." None of the complaints are valid after a few hours in. Extinction is FAR better than any pokemon game and I say this as a huge pokemon fan.
You can't be a huge Pokemon fan like you claim if you really think _this_ beats any Pokemon game besides Sword/Shield.

I think a more apt description is that the game's story takes itself less serious. All Pokemon games are far and away beyond reality, but they take themselves rather serious, for better or for worse. Meanwhile Nexomon is making references and 4th wall breaks.
@@MrSupersonic2012 Yeah, Coco is hilarious, and will keep breaking that 4th wall throughout the game.

Same. Couldn't care less about multiplayer.
I used to get so frustrated how quick the battles were in pokemon and personally I really didn't like multiplayer so this game seems amazing! The way the graphics work is something that I wished Pokémon did with its 3D design in the later games. I can't wait to play this one!
When the majority of the population is so used to mediocrity and cheap ripoffs that you think this game is good.
Elanor Cake and Tea it’s an awesome game
No joke; Almost every negative he mentioned was a positive in my book. More difficult battles that utilized more of your Nexomon instead of just spamming Super Effective moves? Sounds perfect. @@jopvanhoeflaken good Sprite art > bad 3d graphics

My guys is complaining about the difficulty when the nexomon in the footage is level 7 when the opposing one is level 13. 😑😑😑
I mean, a review is a just an opinion. His points weren’t bad, I just think that he didn’t point out the best of the game as much.
I keep seeing people post “wait for a discount”yet the game is $17.99 how much of a discount people want 🤨🧐.
more than 10% i guess.
Everyone wants everything for free
It kills me because Pokemon is a full price game. The game is basically a sale price pokemon would never reach lol
Well physical discount 😅
Because with the amount of cheap games people buy on digital stores these days most of the time those games only sell when they go on sale. In general people seem to hate spending money on anything even if they really want it.
The battling animations are what I think game freak could’ve done if they stuck with 2d graphics
No. Just look at colloseum. Gane freak has just gotten lazy
@@mossmother3768 not lazy, they just have no time to make the games. The Pokemon company is greedy as hell and just wants game freak to pump out games as fast as possible, making as much money as possible.
@@Happymonday2015 omg this is so dumb. This will break their necks someday
Happymonday yes finally someone who understand the real reason
Tpo bad Pokemon has grown so Big its asking for Pokemon competition is like asking for a Competitor to TH-cam.
Don't listen to this review. These guys are just upset that this little studio made a better game than the recent pokemon. Really great game.

I actually like seeing the poke balls placed in the Pokémon center personally
Good video!
I’m sure they are going to improve their games in the future just like Pokemon when it started...
exactly what I was gonna say. Very well put my friend.
Also, when every other monster collector rpg advertises himself (see temtem) they say things like: "we are trying to make a better multi-player than Pokémon" etc. Instead, nexomon didn't put himself in comparison with the titan once,so I think they are trying to not be compared.
Honestly any true Pokemon fan would want more monster tamer games. The constant comparison to Pokemon in this review is annoying af.
I am gonna be honest, anybody who calls these games Pokémon Ripoffs should be called Fanboys
It's heavily inspired by pokemon but a better twist

I think the thing that kept it from being absolutely perfect was that we dont see overworld NPCs interracting with Nexomon. It’s a delightful game, that addresses things that Pokemon doesnt.
Why couldn't Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl look like this? Seriously.

Horrible Review dont take what this guy serious about the game
Don't forget Zacian and Zamazenta's design were ripped off from Omnicron, which was from the first nexomon (2017).
Reviewer: before we start lets get one thing straight here " we will not compare Nexomon to pokemon during this review"
me: sweet
Reviewer: compares the two for majority of this video.
me:
Idk maybe its because I did early grinding and was loaded with traps and healing items so I never dealt with those issues
Hmm... I mean the first game was amazing, ngl hard to believe some of the criticism in this review
Lol, extinction is better than the original. Most of the criticism is just blind and unfair.
Isn’t Jon Cartwright from GameXplain..?
So glad I also went to the comments after watching this review. So very glad.
Awful review, personally I preferred it over the newer Pokémon games
Ive had more fun with this game than any pokemon game since yellow
You say your gonna be open minded and not compare this to pokemon, Yet the whole video alls you did was compare it to pokemon?
Why is that even a question? It became very obvious he was when he said 'well, guess we are going to compare it to pokemon'. And even before that...he was quite sarcastic so yea.
I mean...they even copied pokemon moves. why are you acting like its not a pokemon rip off?
Its called sarcasm
How did your comment even get thumbs up. People must've only listened to the first 3 seconds....
Just found out about this game after the palworld controversy and I get that this is obviously very similar to Pokémon but the comments about the item names?! Those are just standard JRPG item names… super potion is just as common as hi-potion. same with max ether or max potion. Seems like a silly thing to harp on
When I saw this on Nintendo store I had a feeling that I saw this some were.. it was the app so is this better or the same from the app??
better
The phone app is actually the prequel - they're two separate games.
Yes there are some similarities but the differ more than this review made it sound.
i really found nexomon extinction much better than pokemon, in my opinion i give a 10/10
I thought you were joking when you said you'd compare this to pokemon at the start...

Then Sword/Shield should be like a 2/10
An educated human being how rare!
@@enterrandomusername_697 lmao
Honestly better than some Pokémon games
The only complaint I agree with is the lack of pvp and the rest of your complaints are just not true unless you hate games that have some difficulty. It’s really not that hard to catch all the nexamon. money is really easy to come by. With the food it makes it super easy to catch things as well the food is also super cheap... The trainers being able to battle every hour or so is a great thing as well.. Also the humor in the game is not something that hurts the game. It makes it not feel like a dull and generic game like pokémon sword. I rate the game a 7 out of 10. The story was a 9 out of 10 it didn’t feel boring like Pokémon’s boring storyline.
the comments convinced me to buy the game haha
