    Im playing through extinction atm after finishing the first one. So far I think I had more fun on the first cos I could chill and grind levels but with extinction I have to be more engaged. However there are features in both that make them better, I love the cosmic forms, funny character lines and side quest system in extinction. The main thing is the first felt more like a chill simplistic pokemon clone whereas extinction feels more like its own game and I love that about each of them.

    I will share what I think, even tho it's pretty much what you already said:
    NEXOMON
    1- The designs
    I agree with you, I think they look better. I saw them in the database and liked a lot of them. Not saying that the ones in Extinction are bad, but, and that may be controversial opinion idk, there are too many new Nexomon in the sequel. Wish they went with less monsters and reused some from the first. You know, build the roster more slowly.
    2- The moves
    I like the idea of changing moves on the go. I remember seeing that for the first time with EvoCreo and I loved the concept. I think Coromon has that too, right?
    NEXOMON EXTINCTION
    1- The core system
    That's something I really liked in the game, just wish there were more stats.
    2- The custom mode
    It's fun, I got a legendary as a starter! I come back from time to time just to play it again.
    3- Nexomons are more... Useful?
    I used a normal and an uncommon during my first playthrough from start to finish. Their usefulness not being tied to their rarity was definitely a good decision.
    4- Level Scaling
    Controversial I guess, but I like that everything scales to your level. Made the game quite challenging and I never felt the need to grind too hard.

    I played Nexomon 1 after Extinction and it has some things that i like better than in the sequel.
    I really love being able to swap skills on the fly. I can't believe that isn't in Extinction. I also agree with you about the Nexomon having better move diversity.
    I also personally prefer only two nexotraps in first game, since it makes it easier to catch monsters. The sequel is too annoying in my opinion with the food and various traps to worry about.
    But outside of those, Extinction is a huge leap forward. I hope Nexomon 3 improves even further and hopefully brings back the move swapping and move diversity from first game.

    A lot of the changes from Nexomon to Extinction seem to exist purely to make the game more tedious. Things like removing the heal on levelup and the adding a soft cap to money drops (especially that one).

    Autorun is available in Nexomon 1. To be fair, you have to find the shoes for it, but seriously, it sucks having to constantly hold down a button to run. I will agree with the move pool itself being more diverse in general, and the fact that moves with effects felt more common, as now every 'element' of move has 4 attacks that just do damage to varying degrees, and 1 attack that causes a status effect, with each then having 2 moves that cause no damage, but have a chance of an effect, and one 'healing' or 'defensive' move.
    That said, one thing I'm hoping they add that I still feel would make a neat thing is a risk/reward non-battle mon like in some of the SMT games, where mons can have effects even when not in use. In a 1 on 1 with parties of 6, it would mean trading one of your usable mons, and thus taking an element out of your rotation, for something more generally useful. Or heck, filling the five inactive slots with non-battle ones, while only having one fighter. Make their effects good, but not fantastic, or even make them non-battle effects period.
    Like one has the ability to boost damage by 50%, BUT it only does so 25% of the time. If you replace all 5 with them, you could get a huge boost if they stack per turn(Like if they proc they stack, but each one only has a 1 turn effect time limit).
    Meanwhile, for non-battle, do either healing outside, like 1 point per step for HP or Stamina. Or do a Star Ocean, and give a random chance of finding money/items by just moving around. Really pull on that threat that talks bout running around in circles to gain power(Which both 'sidekicks' comment on...even if that's actually inefficient in both Nexomon games for various reasons)

  • @je19921

    Level scaling in Nexomon 2 sucks the fun out of the game. I capture a starter in the first minutes of my playthrough at level 5, grind him up for 25 hours, only to see its final evo in a random encounter at the EXACT same level as me afterward. There is no satisfaction to grinding a team at all. Also, ultra rare and mega rares are WAY too common and everywhere, and also very easy to get. Hate to compare, but in pokemon, there is a much better satisfaction when you finaly find that ONE cave that has a super mega rare dragon that takes you hours to find. By just strolling around, you can legit find every single ultra rare and most mega rares in a nexomon 2 playthough...

  • @OnePolishMoFo
    @OnePolishMoFo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I like both. I feel like 1 had way better monster designs though and I can remember many off the top of my head. 2 though has way more content and was much more challenging as a whole because of the level scaling. I absolutely devastated every encounter in 1 because I was 20 levels above anything at any given point. I rarely had to switch out mid battle. 2 I was on my toes at all times. I switch out constantly and use my items often. No boss battle was a breeze, I had to strategize. If I had to complain about either game it's the frequent 4th wall breaks in dialogue. It's too on the nose at times. The subtle ones can be funny but they were few and far between.

    It’s easier and more fun to grind in Extinction because of you can rematch the different trainers all the time. Money is easier in it to with the gems. The first game tho didn’t have a lot of 4th wall breaks as much as extinction which I really enjoyed. I’m fifty fifty on the wild Nexomons level up like you do, it’s good to train but at the same time I like knowing how much I grew on older routes. The storage system and bag are also upgrades to. But I liked the monster designs alot and decided to check out some gameplay on youtube. And it turns out there are alot of similarities to pokemon, but it basically begins and ends with Mon captures and battles. I am very excited to try these games out for sure. I think N1 would have been a lot more enjoyable if it had Cosmics. The game features forces you to mostly train in the grass, and finding that rare differently colored Nexo would have given people an incentive to use the weaker mons as well despite the balance issues.
    Rarity in N2 was fixed to the point that the Commons/Uncommons were the by far strongest Nexos in the game due to some balance issues with the moves which has later been adjusted with patches but they're still pretty good overall and some remain broken. A lot of the (Un)Commons have better movesets than the rarer Nexos to make up for their worse stats. Still, you are right about their coverage being a lot worse than in N1 overall and I miss changing their moveset on the fly.
    While I do appreciate N2 for nerfing statuses, there is now way too many statuses in the game, some of them carry over on switch, some of them don't and it is impossible to remember them all and are more of a guessing game of what they potentially can do. I just find it confusing.
    Still, N2 is super fun and I'm still playing it.

  • @freddiejohnson6137
    @freddiejohnson6137 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    While the open world is good in extinction the later in the game where there evolutions of Nexomon are in the same place as the earlier forms can make it a real grind later in the game to get the early forms. So it's a case of you either spend hours catching them all at the start as you come across each new area or you potentially spend even longer later in the game searching for them as they move right down the spawning list and later evolutions take priority.
    But definitely agree that a perfect battle system for a third game would be a more diverse move pool from the first with the less spamtastic abuse of status effects the second game has. That mixed with cores would potentially make a decent competitive battle system.

Honestly I got bored with Nexomon 1 as I was getting close to the end which did not happen with Extinction. I did not bother with the post game play with Nexomon 1 and immediately stopped after finishing the main game to move on to Cassette Beasts which I'm not too sure about yet and so far preferred Coromon to both the Nexomon games and what I have played so far of Cassette Beasts.

    If I had to name the number 1 biggest load of BS in Extinction, it's that, I don't know if they've fix this with a patch or not, but when I played it, you literally couldn't beat the final boss without bringing your party up to level 80 or somewhere along those lines. I first challenged that thing when my Nexomon were I believe somewhere around level 65, and I managed to get him to a point where his energy was so low, he couldn't use his best moves against me, making me practically invincible. And yet every single time I killed him, he'd regenerate. I then looked it up and found out the reason for this was because I had to be at level 80, otherwise the game just wouldn't let me win. So I spent hours needlessly grinding for a battle I should have been able to win from the start.

    Personally, I like extinction better! Both are fantastic games, but my biggest problem with the original game was how basic and frustrating the capture system was, which was greatly improved on in the second game
    The addition of ghost and physic types makes the game feel a lot bigger as well, and I love all the new designs! And even if backtracking is still annoying, I am very glad they introduced fast travel much earlier into game then they did in the first one
    All in all, I love both, but extinction is my favorite of the two

    Nexomon 1 is harder due to the fact that theres no broken leech status effect that instantly wins every boss battle (the leech status effect takes away a PERCENTAGE of the opposing nexomons health, and gives a PERCENTAGE of that health back to you. you probably can see how that would be broken when you face a boss)

    The thing that bugs me about battling other trainers is how when we knock out a nexomon the opp brings in a new one and gets a free hit. But when we get knocked out we do not get that same luxury. It’s not fair when the AI gets those advantages that we don’t.

    • @cyanproduct
      @cyanproduct ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nexomon is a popular monster-collecting game that has gained immense popularity over the years. In the game, players collect and battle Nexomon against other trainers. One of the unique features of the game is that when a Nexomon is defeated, the opposing team is given a free hit. While some players may argue that this is unfair, it is actually a fair game mechanic that adds an additional layer of strategy and balance to the game.
      The primary reason why giving the opposing team a free hit when a Nexomon is defeated is fair is that it balances out the game. In most games, players will focus on defeating their opponent's strongest Nexomon first. This strategy is effective because it allows players to take out their opponent's most potent asset, which gives them an advantage. However, if there was no penalty for losing a Nexomon, this strategy would become overpowered, and the game would become unbalanced.
      By giving the opposing team a free hit when a Nexomon is defeated, players are forced to think twice before sacrificing one of their Nexomon. They must consider the potential cost of losing a Nexomon and whether it's worth giving their opponent a free hit. This creates a balance in the game, as players are forced to think strategically and consider their options carefully.
      Another reason why giving the opposing team a free hit when a Nexomon is defeated is fair is that it rewards players who can adapt to changing circumstances. In any game, players will encounter unexpected situations that force them to change their strategy. When a Nexomon is defeated, players must adapt to the new situation and adjust their strategy accordingly. Players who can adapt to these changes and use them to their advantage will be rewarded with a better chance of winning the game.
      Finally, giving the opposing team a free hit when a Nexomon is defeated makes the game more exciting and engaging for players. Every time a Nexomon is defeated, the game becomes more unpredictable, and players must think on their feet to win. This creates a more dynamic and engaging gaming experience for players, as they are forced to think strategically and adapt to changing circumstances.
      In conclusion, giving the opposing team a free hit when a Nexomon is defeated is a fair game mechanic that adds balance, strategy, and excitement to the game. By forcing players to think twice before sacrificing a Nexomon and rewarding players who can adapt to changing circumstances, the game becomes more engaging and enjoyable for players. As such, this game mechanic is an essential part of Nexomon and contributes significantly to the game's success.

    I am actually replaying Nexomon atm, I 100% it on Steam and repurchased it for Switch because I enjoyed it's designs, move diversity and chill gameplay so much. I have Extinction and I have played a good bit of it, but honestly I hate Coco so much. I know some people praise the humour/jokes in Nexomon Extinction, but dear lord I just wish I could have left Coco behind at the start and never have to read another 4th wall break or lame commentary on our current situation/activity ever again. His character and the open world aspect of being able to collect and train so many different Nexomon from different areas without progressing the story is the main reason I had to put Extinction down for a while. Don't get me wrong, I love having access to so many Nexomon from different areas to be able to create a unique and interesting team to tackle the story with... but it feels like Digimon Cybersleuth's issue where you stall your game so much just collecting and training that I have like 30 hours in my game before I've started the main questline.

      I was fine with the fourth wall breaks at first but they just happened so often by the time the twist happened I just wanted to throw Coco off a cliff. The first game handled them better imo.

    Was looking for a new game for the Switch and randomly discovered Nexomon, not sure how I've never heard of it. Definitely looks good, especially after the let down of the last few Pokemon games. Quick question though, does Extinction have all the same Nexomon as the first game, with a few new ones, or do both games have completely different Nexomon?

      There are some refferences to the first part in Extinction, but nothing which would make the story not understandable.
