I just realized that Shotgun was in an "A" model Tomcat....
The Tomcat just looks so gracefull even when plummeting to the ground after stalling out. 🤣
Going up against the F-14 is such a wild card. The jet literally can out run out gun and out turn you. The gamble is if you have a maverick flying it or a jester.
According to Navy pilots (there is a Sofrep article about this), in WVR the legacy Hornets is slightly better than the SH. The SH has more thrust and wing area (so a better sustained turn performance) but is slower to roll, especially when pulling G's. And it's worse when carrying ordnance under the wings. As the pilot says: the legacy Hornets is crisper.
In BVR the SH is obviously better due to its AESA radar.
Both Hornet and Rhino are less comfortable at higher altitude than other jets.
And I still want a DFCS F-14D Super Tomcat! 😁
The tom cat pilot had just about snapped his wings off and stalled out. He really hosed him with the gun too. Doesn't get any better.
Damn GS, that Tomcat pilot definitely made you earn it in Round 1! Very good fight that was awesome to watch. Your channel has become part of my daily routine. After I get home from work and get out of my work clothes I relax with a cup of fresh coffee and watch kick ass dogfights on the big screen.

After this Super Hornet mod I really want to see an F-14D in DCS
I wonder how hard it is to find information on it. The US might still have a lot of the upgraded avionics information redacted to keep the Iranians from getting any ideas on how to update theirs.
@@asgnecco from what I understand there is only one system still top secret, but it is included in a document that holds all of the weapon information, so they could make a D model fly just no radar or weapons.
My friend is working on the model for the F-14E Tomcat.
@@CH-pv2rz I am talking in reference to why there isn’t a D model already in dcs. Maybe if you learned context you wouldn’t open your mouth to make an attack on someone trying to provide information. And for the record if something is top secret the developer can’t get the information.
@@pogo1140 From what I understand those sources never really went into the type of detailed numbers required to accurately model it. Heat blur has Sid that they are trying to (through freedom of information act) get as much of the missing document as possible. From what I understand it was more like a lazy job censoring the content. They basically said this chapter has a system that’s top secret so we will just remove the whole chapter. Where in the a and a+ (latter B) they only removed that one section.

Man that first round was something else
Funny you mentioned the cobra in the f14, My friends and I have been messing around in the tomcat and I managed to cobra and hover in place for about 20 seconds. We found that about 45 degrees is the absolute max you can risk pulling. Up around 50 degrees the wings snap hard, largest number we ever saw while breaking wings was 67 before wings snapped.
That Hornet howl at 6:00 gives me chills. Love that jet.
I saw some old footage of a Tomcat undergoing testing and it easily pulled off a 90 degree "cobra" (120 is standard actually).
The F14 is probably the coolest looking jet when it's wings are closed

Just watched a documentary/movie called Tomcat Tales. Pretty much stories of real f-14 crews. They say the D was off the charts better than the A and B. Wonder when someone will get around to a F-14D mod
I would have loved to see some ground pov stuff with that low altitude combat!! The sound in DCS is second to none and to hear a tomcat or mig slam into the ground a few hundred yards away always looks and sounds sick! Thank you for the consistent uploads and quality!
Looks like the E/F mod also increased the WSO's balls: We know a certain Jester that would have left you topless with that last second recovery to prevent a floor kill. :-)
The two seater SH is so cool. The early blocks are really close to the legacy hornet too. Would love to see ED do this plane. It's not like there are that many modern fighters left out there anyway (since they can't simulate soviet block stuff)

Watching the Super Hornets flying around here all the time, I'm always amazed how slow they can fly and turn when it looks like it should fall out of the sky.

it’s fly by wire constantly moving the flaps under load for better wing performance, it’s normal until 20 degrees alpha in almost every non canard fbw plane

This'll likely be an out of the blue request, but keeping with the theme of new vs old, do you think you could do a dogfight between the F-35 mod (if it still works) and the F/A-18E/F? I'd assume the F/A-18 would win in a gunfight, but I'd like to see how the 35 would fair in a fox 2 or fox 3 fight. Cheers mate!
F-35 mod is dead currently man but once it’s back up I can deff see what I can do in that regard.

I worked on the Flight Tests build up of the F18 Hornet, Aircraft 1 through 10, 1978 Northrop. It went into production not long after. Still a great Aircraft after all those years.!!
Plaudits to Shotgun for the “crazy Ivan” pull every trick in the book to get that F14 gunsight on the F18 what a first round, absolutely brilliant stuff!

They've got to do some reshoots for Top Gun 2 with a cobra 'cat...that was amazing and very inventive flying.

That tomcat cobra and then almost kill was the most ballsy thing I've seen in a long time. His speed and yaw control is probably what killed him but still super impressed and what choice did he really have tbh. Extend would've been the only option probably.

If my memory is correct that move is called a high alpha maneuver, there are videos on TH-cam showing it do the same maneuver. Makes me wonder what it’s true potential would be if it had been upgraded to the proposed tomcat 21

Bro thanks for the help in the last video with the installation of the Super Hornet. I installed using JSGME and it worked! Question: when you installed did you have a problem with the texture? My Super Hornet is green now, haha. I tried to put livery that came with the mod in the folder F/A-18C, but it didn't work. It's me or do I have to do something different? Thanks in advance!

While the cobra worked but making another extreme turn to get his guns on him caused the F-14 to do a "flat spin". which causes the aircraft to stall and fall but however I'm impress that he recover right away when his spin towards the ground and stall but he was just too damn close to the ground.
