Yeah, that's what struck me about that particular story--what kind of loving mother does that to their child if it's not meant as an inside joke (which this clearly wasn't)? In OP's place, I'd say "OK, this is ridiculous. You're sending me pictures of Scrooge over this? You're calling _my_ behavior childish, but this is even _more_ immature than what you've alleged of me. Don't bother trying to talk to me for the next couple weeks at least. Maybe after that we can discuss this like adults."

I think in the story with the dad who more or less abandoned his daughter, it was right that he saw the presentation, it was a collection of a kid's emotions over the years after losing a parent, he absolutely should have seen that, i think it's a tragedy about what happened to the half-brother but that shouldn't immediately mean your other child should just stop having any emotional needs whatsoever. It isn't their fault. Also from his perspective, i think it was important that he saw that, the argument from the rest of the family that the dad having to see that caused him emotional pain, to me is irrelevant. As it is about the emotional pain you have caused to your own child. It was harsh, but i know that it's important for a kid and their emotions to feel acknowledged.

The karen literally threatened to call a 14 and 7 year old for throwing garbage in the PUBLIC garbage bin and basically acted like she pretty much owned it when there was an obvious sign that it was public! Not to mention the husband’s response to the situation with the “I know how your people are” BS! Im glad those two got evicted cause that’s definitely what they deserve for causing a public disturbance. Also hello and welcome to the new person reading the stories!!!!

I don't wear it but whenever I'm cleaning my bathroom and come across my jewelry boxes, I open the jewelry boxes she got me and just smile at them and remember when she gave them to me. The story about the dad abandoning the child
Yes, understand that one of the child has cancer, but you can't just ignore your other kids cause you just cant. The dad abadoned the OP, and only when the kid died, he went like "Oh yea, i have this other kid, let me try and go back to her again and if need be, rekindle" or idk, and that would feel terrible for me if i was in that situation. Like, oke, think about it this way, if you think its wrong for the OP to "be harsh towards him without listening to his side of the story" keep in mind, he abandoned the OP. And the family too, "you hurt his feeeeeelings, apologize now", trying to justify the dad, thinking its not ok for the OP to do that, but again. ITS OK FOR THE DAD TO ABANDON OP??? Not the jerk, in fact, the dad shouldve heard that, let him better understand what he does then try to act and make it seem like theres no issue at all, its healthier that way too, especially for the OP. Because if not, then the father wouldn't have done anything to fix this, cause he may not think theres anything TO fix.

    For the powerpoint one:
As a child who's been neglected because of my brother's mental issues. No, you're absolutely not the AH. Yes people change, but the father did neglect an innocent child and obviously caused some issues for the child's mental health. If the powerpoint was so gutting for the father, imagine a growing child living through said experiences? And even if the father is a completely different person, he still hurt you and he's not entitled to your forgiveness since he can't change what happened.

From what OP said, they were in an awful situation and if the neglect wasn't bad enough, apparently the father also said things that hurt to the point of leaving a mark. I'm sorry, there are things that you shouldn't say, even during an argument. And from what I got, it took years for the father to attempt to contact them again.
I'm sorry, you don't get to treat others like crap and then someday decide you want them back. And if he is hurt? Good. Maybe now he will understand what he did and how much harm he caused.

You'd be surprised how petty people can be when it comes to the dumpsters. I know we were moving so we actually had to throw several items into our dumpster right next to our apartment building We tossed a couple like desk chairs and several bags of cardboard boxes that were damaged to be on repair. While we were doing that, we saw several people from our apartment complex that lived on the opposite side of the complex come driving to our dumpster and started throwing their garbage in it because they had filled up all the ones in between us and their apartment building. We don't know what they were doing, but it was quite ridiculous

Story 1: What a basketcase. There'a absolutely no reason to yell at anybody, much less a 7 and 14 year old for throwing trash out in a public dumpster. I'll bet the Karen and her husband just looked at the colour of their skin and decided it was enough cause to shout at them. Good on the OP and the mother for not backing down.
Story 2: OP isnt a jerk at all. If John was talking to the OP that way, getting the door slammed in his face was 100% justified. The OP was trying to cut out as much sounds/noise as possible, but its considerably tougher when the kid is sick. I know i dont like screaming out-of-control children, but there is a major difference between that and being sick or injured. With the way John acted towards the OP, he's lucky all he got was choice words and a door slammed in his face.
Story 3: Screw Tom, period.... and screw the mom too now that i think of it. Is it really such a big deal to leave pepsi, or any drinks out of the fridge if you aren't drinking them right away? All that Tom guy should've done was put them away himself and politely asked that they go in the fridge rather then not. As for the mom, making excuses for the guy and posting pictures of Scrooge... then saying that the OP is acting like a child. Talk about acting like you're 9 years old yourself. I wouldn't want either of them around for Christmas.
Story 4: Screw Carol.... big time! If i were the OP, i know i wouldnt want to be anywhere near that old hag. If i were the OP's mom, id be doing what i could to make sure that the OP and brother don't have to be near Carol, regardless of having visitation right from the dad. OP isn't a jerk.
Story 5: That's quite the ice-cold revenge from the OP here. I dont think the OP is a jerk here, maybe the stepmom, as i always hate the "i am your new parent" attitude, but also the dad pretty much neglected the OP for the rest of it. OP has every right to be upset here. Now, was this going too far here? Possibly.... but also possibly not far enough. Im sure there's more to this all that isnt being told here.
Story 6: Yes, we sure are ending on a jerk here and a very greedy one too it looks like. The OP isnt as bad as the Sarah/Jake couple, that stole the dead mom's ring, but this is still a high level of pathetic here. She has zero rights to any of the jewelry, as the grandmother left it to the husband. You're just sour and bitter that you got nothing from an inheiritance. Also, what exactly is the OP's "needs" here? The OP deserves no apology whatsoever, and if i were the husband, i would be re-considering my marriage with the OP.

@@justincantrell1474 Yeah and Not mad at the OP at all and not a jerk. I mean yeah the brother was sick and dying is understandable but the OP being blatantly left out and ignored then left in the grandparents care. If the father genuinely wanted to make up and say sorry for what happened, he would seek her out personally not to go through the Grandparents. The PowerPoint showed the father how bad he messed up as he still has a daughter not the just brother and he is the only parent she had as her mother died earlier. That dumpster story kind of made me chuckle. We bought our home in a developing neighborhood. About a year after we purchased, the house across the street was being built. The construction crew had a habit of dumping their garbage in our dumpster at the end of the day, think packaging material like styrofoam and cardboard. Well this filled our dumpster up fairly quickly. Our service is once a week, so it meant for several days we had no place to dispose of our own trash. So I had to have a conversation with the construction foreman to let him know that his guys couldn’t be throwing their garbage in a private dumpster unless they intended on reimbursing us. He said he would get the situation corrected. I told my wife to tell them something if it happened again. Now my wife is a non confrontational person that likes to get along with everyone. Though she will often vent to me about people and things that annoy her.
Fast forward two weeks. I come home to find that my dumpster has been stuffed full of construction debris. I ask my wife why she didn’t tell them anything, and she said she was waiting for me, because I’m better with those types of situations. What she is really saying is she doesn’t want to confront anybody. So now I am pretty steamed. I walk across the street to tell the workers what was on my mind. When I began to tell them what my issue was, they began to smirk a little and gave me the “No English, no english” excuse. That was the moment I lost it. I switched to Spanish and let them know that they were either going to pull out $200 and pay me on the spot, or they were going to walk their asses across the street and pull every single piece of their trash out of my dumpster. I honestly think they were more taken about that I am fluent in Spanish than anything else. They chose the latter. The moral of the story, I know IATA, and I have zero problem with it.

For story number 4, I have to say that NO MATTER WHAT! As a parent, it will forever be your duty to support your child and to help them if possible. I see and hear stories all the time, children get mistreated, neglected or put in immense physical and/or mental pain by their parents. This is a huge problem in our society and I think that if you're not ready for a child, keep it in your pants and don't say a word.

For the last one i can understand the idea of op wearing it as opposed to it collecting dust. But the way she went about it was entirely wrong. A) it was too soon after the death (imo give it at least 3 months or more before asking about it) B) op makes it seem less valuable sentimentally than it might actually be.
I think the better way to approach after giving it some time and space, wouldve been, "Hey i noticed you were storing your grandmother's jewelry in here, its really pretty but i hate to see it collecting dust. Do you mind if maybe one day i wear some on a date together." What i mean by this is keep it special by leaving it for special occasions and not have to have it lose its sentimental value by being out all the time. It could be a nice reminder from time to time the grandma is always watching.

Did his wife get along with her husband's grandmother, according to her, yes. But that doesn't negate his far stronger bond with her, nor does it negate her wishes that her grandson gets her jewellery. OP referring to wanting someone else's inheritance as a "need" and is calling him all sorts of names, when in reality she may desire the jewellery but she had no legal nor moral claim for any of it. I hope the husband puts it in a lockbox at his local bank or a safe in the house that OP doesn't have the combination to, and she never gets any of it. She's shown her true colours with her tantrum over this.

Complaining because a sick child is crying and then calling someone a bad parent because of it. Obviously never been a parent and would fail if they ever had a child. Also the guy who can't drink room temperature soda definitely shouldn't visit France. Learned in a video that nobody in France drinks cold soda and it's served room temperature at restaurants. Guy picked a wierd thing to get angry about. Minor annoyance sure, but not something to yell at someone for. Just put it in the freezer for about 20 minutes to chill it quickly. Guy must have an addiction if he can't wait and freaks out about it lol.

The last story OP is a jerk, but this is also prime example of why wills shouldn't be kept secret. This issue could've been easily avoided or more properly handled if the grandmother made the will known to all involved prior to her death. That way the OP or her husband could have asked the grandmother about it directly. It's a common trope for someone to make a will and lock it away until death, where the executor then reads it to a bunch of surprised Pikachu faces, but it doesn't have to happen like that.

Of course then everyone will badger you till literal death to get more of your stuff. No one is entitled anything. If Grandma wanted she could have donated everything to charity and given nobody anything and it would be perfectly in her right. Don't be greedy and just assume you're entitled whatever you want from someone who DIED.

    I have a little story
So, I am a 11 yrs old girl on a plane going back to ohio from Texas . I am no boarding the plane when suddenly a whole bunch of commotion is going on. Apparently a racist karen is complaining about a black man being on the plane. For some dumb reason the plane recruits kicked the black man off. I wasn't happy about it. But I couldn't do anything about it for I was a child. The black man even had a wife and kid on the plane and they had to leave without him. Am I a jerk for not doing anything? Here i am still 11 and I regret not being able to do anything about that poor man being kicked off.

    Story #2
I think the guy reading the stories is wrong, the point of the power point presentation wasn't only and specifically to emotionally damage the father, it was because she wanted him to understand how he made her feel and she could explain it much better with pictures and collages than just words. Telling a story with that level of detail fully puts into perspective what the OP was feeling, if the dad didn't like it that's kinda too bad. He should've done a better job at being a parent to the OP when it mattered and now it's too late. I side with the OP and don't think this was too far at all

Story 2: You are definitely not the Jerk, either he doesn’t have kids or doesn’t remember what little kids are like and an 18 month old can’t properly make understood what’s wrong. We know that feeling 🤢 is like as adults, never mind a child. I had a proper flu many years ago and on day 3 tried to get an appointment for that day( Scotland). When the phone was finally answered the receptionist said “ Oh your far too late”. Me feeling sorry for myself shouted I’d been trying for 11/2 hrs to get through and hung up. I asked my husband that afternoon to try for a Saturday morning appointment who was told I would have to try again at 8.30am. I went on the phone and got the same receptionist as in the morning. I told her how bad I was feeling and her speaking to me like that made it so much worse. She then put me through to the doctor. He asked if I could come straight down to see him. I then told him how bad she made me feel and what if I had been elderly and getting such a response. He said he would deal with it. I feel the man in the story should be like me think about others who are going through a hard time. In my surgery there were 3 different doctors and when I had gone in I approached the wrong one(where a lady from the church worked) I was horrified at the thought of being short with this lady who is really nice. She said your next door . Lol 😂

Story 2, the one about the collage artist and their falling out with their father...
That's a pretty tough scenario to judge. I would have said "I'm not really ready to pick things up again." or "I don't think it would be wise for us to reconnect after everything that's happened. We both have our own lives now. I moved on. I think it's best if you do to. All I'm going to end up doing is reminding you of difficult times."
I think in order to get that level of backlash, the father would have had to have done something a lot worse than focusing more attention on the terminally ill child. Like, at first I thought the story was headed to a much worse place, like he'd ripped up the art diary or pulled OP's college funding to pay for the cancer treatment. Actually, even the latter kinda sits in a grey area, because what can you do in a situation where a family member (even a step brother) is dying? You lose either way.
I just hope OP's in a stable enough situation that he doesn't need any inheritance from his father's will.

Obviously arresting a seven year old is ridiculous but if the family is the AH is a different question.
In my country every house gets a small bin, for cuttings, plastic and paper (waste you have to pay for). When those bins are full, they are full and it can take three weeks for the next pickup to come.
That means everybody only uses their bins. If somebody else put their trash in mine i would be pissed since i am now stuck with the waste, also its not intended for the neighbours to throw their trash in your bins…. I reckon ic the system here is similiar they sent the kid to take out the trash for a reason.

In the lasr story I have one thing that might be relevant. When was his grandmother's will written? My grand parent's wrote their will when i was 6 years old. They never updated it in the 30 years between then and when they passed away. As a result of this my 2 youngest siblings, 7 and 9 years younger were never included in the will because it was written before they were born. None of us received anything from them even though the 2 oldest of us were written into the will because the state tok all of their properties to pay for the nursing home for my grandmother. My youngest siblings were very upset, not because they received nothing but the fact that their existence was not even acknowledged as if they were never even born. The will might have been written before the husband married and this might be why the jewelry was left to the husband.

Wanting and pouting over and whining about a freshly dead grandmother-in-law's jewelry that you want is rude and presumptuous.
