    Dude!! It worked so well!!! I showed Ollie my tooth brush and I showed him his. I brushed my teeth then told him he needs his teeth brushed.
    Ollie let me brush his front teeth without pulling away. We didn't get all his teeth today, but he was so calm and chill.
    I am so thankful to you. Wow man!! What a difference. Thank you again!!

    i just tried brushing my cat’s teeth for the first time, admittedly a bit late with forrest having turned 1 year old a couple of days ago. but it is what it is, i suppose.
    funnily enough i went in without any actual knowledge of how to do anything, just put the paste (he for some reason absolutely loved) on the tiny toothbrush and he immediately went to fight me for it to lick it off of it. while he was busy chewing on it, i started to slowly move the brush to try and get as many of his teeth covered and scrubbed as possible.
    obviously that wasn’t actually teeth brushing but, i just thought it was funny how he was already near step 5, acceptance, right off the bat.
    now that ive watched this video, i have a little bit more of a grasp on how to go about keeping my cat’s dental hygiene in check.
    this comment was a little bit of a mess but still,

    I'm trying to get my 12 yo cat used to brushing teeth for the first time. Glad I found your video. I was having a hard time getting her to open her mouth so I could brush the inside of her teeth, but now I know it's not necessary. Also I have a little plastic cup next to me to dip the brush in it once in a while to keep it moist, probably helps spread the toothpaste a bit better.

    Get those specialized matatabi/valerian root/TARTARIAN HONEYSUCKLE - These are also alternative for catnip. They will engage most cats immune to catnip to play , actively nibble and gnaw on the sticks and passively clean most plaque buildups. They tend to tire the cat out for easier sleep pattern control.

    Gargling and brushing my own teeth in front of my kitten is a useful idea and I've been doing so for several weeks now. I got a pretty looking small toothbrush for my kitty and she likes to play with it occasionally. But as soon as I try to insert it into her mouth she gets reactive and runs away. I've still not been able to brush her teeth. However, rubbing the gums with my own finger is allowed and welcome!

    If you mind. With building acceptance for the toothbrush. Should you try first and gauge their tolerance/willingness to do it? Or should you show them that you can brush your teeth for a few times before trying to introduce them to it.

    • @TheCatButler
      @TheCatButler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would recommend showing them first you brushing your teeth a couple of times then try gauging their tolerance.
      I made the mistake of not doing that first and had a lot of difficulty with brushing their teeth. So I retraced my steps and showed them for a couple of days and then attempted again and they were more tolerant. Hope that helps!

    Hello! In one of your video's, you had mentioned the vet bill for dental cleaning was mostly covered with your pet insurance. But from what I've seen... most "dental" work is not covered by insurance, or it will count as "preventative care" so it's not covered. I'm curious to know if your dental cleaning... was is treated as "surgery"?? I'm considering dental cleaning and and looking for pet insurance at the moment... was curious how you're dental bills were covered.

    How do you get to the bottom teeth on the sides? When her mouth is closed her top teeth cover them. When I open her mouth to reach the bottom side teeth, she starts freaking out and biting onto the brush

    • @TheCatButler
      @TheCatButler  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jasmin that’s a good question! So not sure how cooperative your cat is. But my cats are still not too cooperative. The safe method is for the bottom molar teeth to lightly place my hand on the bottom of the lower jaw so there is less jaw movement. Then try to brush their molar teeth when they open the jaw. If you are still not able to do, the second method is a little bit more risky and should be only tried if you know your cat won’t bite you. I use a part of my nail and stick it in between their front teeth. Avoid the canine teeth just the small front teeth. It would open the jaw just enough to brush the molar without the cat feeling too stressed. Their front teeth just lightly touches my nail. I use the nail so if they do bite I won’t get hurt too much. I repeat only do the second method if you trust your cat
      Hope that helps!

    • @Tumbledweeb
      @Tumbledweeb ปีที่แล้ว

      During those days you mention, when exactly was that and what kind of food were they being fed?
      I know that some cat food producers add sugar to food and treats; In humans, sugar is the number one cause of tooth decay. So it seems reasonable to conclude that it might be added sugar to pet food that could be a reason for this supposed change that you mention.

    • @TheCatButler
      @TheCatButler  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey good question! Dry brushing and using water is a start so pat yourself on the back. Most owners have a trouble doing that. The tooth pastes contain an enzyme that will help remove, loosen, and reduce pre-existing and future plaque and tartar build-up. At least in my own experience it has helped with my cat's teeth, they haven't had any bleeding of gums. Hope that helps!

    My cat has a heart murmur and I'm worried about taking him to the vet for a dental cleaning because he will be given an anesthetic. Not good for a cat with a heart murmur, right? He is 8 years old and is not fond of having his teeth brushed. I started too late! Not sure how to deal with this -- annoy him with a daily tooth brushing or take him to the vet?

    • @TheCatButler
      @TheCatButler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm you can see what the vet says whether the cat can handle an anesthetic. Ideally doing both would help. The cleaning will get rid of the tartar and plaque and the daily tooth brushing to maintain the teeth after it. Yeah my cats are not fond of it either. It requires some patience.

    right now my cat is very old and hadn't had her teeth brushed for a long time so this wouldn't be very effective as she's already lost a tooth
    but I think if I were to try she would just rub it against her cheek and get the toothpaste all over her face

    Is human toothpaste harmful to cats and I accidentally let him have a lil bit what do I do?

    • @TheCatButler
      @TheCatButler  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Whit some ingredients in human toothpaste is toxic to cats. One or lick won't kill your cat, but too many can. I recommend you monitor your cat and if you see vomiting, weakness, drooling to see the vet for a closer check up.

    My kitten still is growing teeth because he came to us under 8 weeks old, should I start to introduce him to a toothbrush or not yet

    • @TheCatButler
      @TheCatButler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Kittens get all their baby teeth usually by 6 to 8 weeks of age. You can start to brush then so they get use to it and learn not to hate it.
      During the brief period when the baby teeth are falling out and the permanent teeth are erupting, be very careful to avoid areas where the baby teeth have fell out as it can be painful for your cat.
      Otherwise patience and your cat will learn to accept tooth brushing :)

    Brushing her teeth is hard because the toothpaste tastes so she tries to eat the toothbrush and she doesn't like to be stuck but she accepts that for a little while because of the toothpaste haha
