Love your high-quality and accessible insights into tactical shape, strengths and weaknesses. A lot of FM creators dive deep into specific tactics, which does have its own merit, but these videos give us the tools to go off and make our own! Really appreciate the effort.
Great video! While you did touch upon this, another weakness we need to emphasize is how 442 relies on crosses to get the ball to the forwards. This makes the formation very vulnerable to anything with 3 defenders.
Thanks, happy to hear that you enjoyed it! I completely agree with your point! Cutting out crosses neutralizes a lot of the danger that the 442 will bring. A valuable addition to the weaknesses of the 442!
The few videos and high subscriber count demonstrate how good of a channel you are! Being a Bournemouth fan, the 4-4-2 formation was Eddie Howe's go-to in the PL. The vast usage of wingers and the incredible intelligence of CM Andrew Surman kept us up in the first season. Our counter attacks were devestating, with second striker Josh King scoring 16 in the following season. Later, the partnership of Wilson and winger Fraser further extended our stay in the PL. Unfortunately, our team failed to adapt as we would constantly lose to teams (sometimes quite heavily) playing 4-2-3-1 or a variation of 3 at the back, as Coach Roan stated
You're too kind my friend! Loved seeing Wilson in that Bournemouth team, such a deadly striker! What's your feeling for the upcoming season as a Bournemouth fan?
@coachroan Thanks for your kind words mate... I really appreciate your video styling, perfect edits and on topic discussions. You're very direct and deserve way more recognition than what you've currently got! I really like the under ten minute approach, so the viewer stays focussed! I'm very optimistic for Bournemouth... I was one of the few who supported the board's move to fire Gary O'Neil... I would rather it now than halfway through the season... If we get Viña (who was incredibly impressive at the end of last season) and Alex Scott over the line, we're set for survival. Just a shame Lerma left for a new challenge :(
@@rodmorg801 I'm very happy to hear you're enjoying the content. The under ten minute thing is also something I always try to aim for, as I think a lot of videos on TH-cam ramble on for way too long before getting to the juicy parts, so glad you enjoy that too! Yeah the firing of O'Neil might have been a surprise at the time, but with Iraola now in it seems a lot more logical. Very interested to see how you guys will perform next season! Especially if you end up getting Scott, since as a FM creator I cannot help getting excited about that haha
@coachroan You're 100% correct mate, I think your presentation style is perfect, it's what gives your channel that unique touch. The larger channels in comparison divert so much time to rambling. It's why I like your channel and Old Man Phil's, as I'm able to stay focussed and not wait patiently until the relevant information is presented. Keep up your brilliant work my friend!
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's the dollar shop Erik ten Hag: CoachRoan! In all seriousness, I really appreciate the comment! I'm very happy to hear the videos have been helpful!
Really enjoyed this. Refreshing take on how to counter other tactics in the game, perfect for those of us out there who like to disrupt the opposition first and foremost
Hey Roan great series, rly useful, already using lots of staff u was taking in previus videos. Whould like to see, how to play againts something like 3-4-2-1. That formation killing me sometimes
I'm happy to hear that you've been able to use some of the info the videos, it's why I do it! The 3421 is definitely on the list for a potential future video, thanks for the suggestion!
Narrow formations didn't work for me at all. A classical 4-2-3-1 worked for me, with just having the central control and attacking from both flanks and center. Problem was that 4-4-2 was solid in the center because of the box, but also solid from the flanks because of the deep wingers. So not focusing the attack on neither specifically, and just attacking with some normal width and overlaps, slightly shorter passing, normal or slightly higher lines - worked wonders. Because I just focused on my team playing to their strengths and finding the weaknesses on their own. If I started using narrow focus or wide focus, I got destroyed or shut down because their formation can deal with extremes quite well.
could you make videos about training schedules and staff? Ive started to get into fm and I followed all ur vids ab scouting and tactics and they helped a lot!
I'm very happy to hear that the videos have helped you out! What team are you managing? I'm not sure if I'll make a training video, as a lot of other creators have made some amazing videos on that already so I don't know if I can add something to that! A 4231 is a great formation to beat a 4231! The central attacking midfielder will sit perfectly in the space between the midfield and defence of the 442, while also forming a triangle with the other 2 midfielders to play through the 442's defense
@@oldschool90s18 There are a couple ways you can structure your midfield: Assuming you're even/worse than the opposition: 1 DM as a BWM 2 CM as Carrilero (It's basically defensive mezzala specifically tasked with not stepping on your forward's toes) Assuming you're better than the opposition: 3 CM: being 2 Carrileros and 1 DLP or 1CM: Carrilero 1CM: 1 DLP 1 AM as a Support. 1 IF on Attack 1 Winger on Attack 1 Advanced Forward (This tactic got me 4 Champion's Leagues. 3 in a row.
