Easy to be an arm-chair tactician and forget that these clubs are paying millions of dollars to their coaching staff. There are managers in non league football who are top notch tacticians. You don't get a job managing a club in the best league in the world unless you have a very high technical understanding of the game.
Who cares, both styles work if you have the players for it. Kompany is playing Pep ball and they are favourites for promotion now and Dyche still got relegated eventually last season just like teams who play different styles to him. Bournemouth and Swansea spent years in the premier league playing possession/ pep type football, Swansea also won the League Cup when they were in the PL.
@@KC-oz1yc Burnley players are top quality in the Championship. It's no surprise they can play possession-based football. Norwich does it every second year but they have been poor in the Prem.

It’s beautiful in its simplicity. The 442 is so simple but the way he implemented it at Burnley was very impressive. The fact he’s able to manipulate a midfield with more players in it than his own and create the space to move forward rather than sideways is a testament to his quality as a manager. Very interested to see how he does at Everton, hopefully keeping them up and getting some investment in the summer
Very underrated coach, and i am making the comment just by watching 2 minutes. Kept Burnley in the league for such a long time with fixed budget and average players. If Everton don't get him, they'll regret it, simple as that
Sean Dyche is litterally the twin (baldy & more exhuberant) brother of Eddie Howe and is the absolute BEST appointment Everton could hope for...Dude did absolutely miracles for YEARS with virtually no money and signign mostly british players and end up in Europe and keeping them on The Prem for YEARS ! That alone is an incredible achievement in itself and deserves all the praise in the world. Like Howe, he is likable, knowledgeable and down to earth and easy going. Everton already tried world class managers like Ancelotti and Benitez and how did it work for them ? Dyche like Howe in Newcastle is gonna surprise and amaze many footy fans worldwide with his ability to get the absolute best out of any player he is coaching and making them looking far better than t what they are. The way he talks and explains things is great you'd really leave it all on the pitch for him. Also Sean would love to play more expansive football but you use the tools you have.
As a Southampton fan I wanted Sean Dyche to come to our club because he was experienced, pragmatic, intelligent, logical, calm and passionate. I also wanted to play 4-4-2 which has worked for us recently against Man City and Palace and worked occasionally before that until mangers went back to tinkering. The appointment and his philosophy would have steadied the players individually , the team as a whole, supporters worries and helped the club stay in the Premier League. Sean has a faith in 4-4-2, will alter it if necessary, but knows that it is fundamental to a steady, effective team. Our previous four managers have all tinkered around with multiple formations and, hence, players - and this will never work, especially with players that aren't the best in the Premier. The previous managers had no fundamentally sound philosophy and so, I feel. it was inevitable that they would fail in the short to medium term. I also feel it is so important for players to understand their role and the players to understand each others' role. Dyche believes in utilising players to the best of their individual abilities (which is logical) whereas less successful or effective managers will just dictate that a players follows the manager's format for a particular game. Again here a manager is restricting the player's talent, ability and hence the effectiveness of the team whilst confusing the player and the team. Good luck to Dychey at Everton and to Everton - I think they both made sound choices. I really can't see Everton going down now - Dychey will rebuild the team into a formidable unit.
The fact that he's able to adapt his preferred formation to fit the players the club has while playing to their strengths as well is really amazing to witness and learn from
I really like the 4-4-2, especially for youth players. It gives the two outside defenders an opportunity to play offense and defense, and it gives you two sets of options in the striker position. I love the two sets of three offense players on each side of the field and the outside defender to do throw ins and free kicks.
It's a clearly defined approach.. after 9 mins watching this I know exactly what he wants from me defensively in the position I used to play. If the players all know their jobs (with and without the ball) and all put in the effort required and work hard, then you've always got a chance. He'll keep Everton up i reckon.
Fantastic Manager with his own personal beliefs and strategies. His record speaks for itself and only failed at Burnley because he wasn’t backed by the former and current board of directors over the last 3 years. He probably took us as far as he could on the resources he had at his disposal. I think he would do well at Everton and get the best out of those players. However don’t be expecting attacking players to play attacking football because it’s not going to happen so often. It will sure up the defensive for this season and should just about keep Everton in the premier league with something to build on. As always I will wish Sean Dyche the best wherever he goes. UTC!!
*The Championship* is the right tier for the Burnley organisation, they can moneyball themselves a squad who are great performers at that level of competition, and the right coach-read Vincent Kompany-can have them playing very watchable (and very winning) football. When they win promotion at the end of this season, they shouldn't waste their money on a total rebuild-bank the television money, get relegated, bank the parachute payment, dominate the Championship, get promoted, and repeat. All the stress in yo-yoing is the cycle of splashing out for top flight talent, then selling off and putting together a squad you can afford in the Championship. Just spend enough to dominate the Championship and enjoy the cycle of alternating between Premier League money and parachute payments.
I always tell my friends at work, you have to watch other sports to expand your knowledge and how it relates to football. My Dyche gave a little insight on other sports, the Quarterback is an American Football position, he also mentioned a rugby coach. also Kyrian Trippier "has every club in his bag" is a Golf term. nice to know im not the only one who watches other sports to get a different perspective.
I'm an LFC fan and an old guy so I have to say, Sean reminds me of the older managers like Shankly etc. His no nonsense hard man approach but with an obvious manager's brain for tactics & strategy. Be happy to see him successful at Everton...but not too successful :)
"Shut down their 'clever play" is such as Sean dyche thing to say. 😂😂😂😂😂 I really love this manager and this is coming from an arsenal fan who recently lost to Everton.
Yesterday against Liverpool it was quite similar as Robertson was kept open quite a few times and I always wondered why people are not finding him there, now I know the answer.
You should notice even by his terminologies he is a very conservative manager but clever in his tactics. - safeguard, tag team, shuffle and shift, defensive compactness whereas leaving an outlet - not surprisingly he's achieving at Everton despite the point deduction. Always liked him.
The thing that is interesting to me is he changed his tactics on where the game is being played. As he mentioned he had to play slightly different on away days than on home games which you might not think about. I assumed he played the exact tactics at home and away
I like that this breaks down to, play the best system for your players. He didn’t want to use modern formations and short passing because it didn’t suit his teams strong point.
The job that he did at Burnley was nothing less than staggering. What happened towards the end of his tenure, that hasn't been made public. Whatever happened makes no difference to how I feel about him. The thing is, Vincent Kompany has done such a phenomenal job since coming through the door that it has kind of overshadowed the achievement of Shaun Dyche. I hope that wherever he ends up as manager that he brings success to the club and prove that this man is a class act... Everton must have their fingers crossed?!

Everton need him
I love how simple he keeps the game. I'd love to play for this guy!
Arsenal fan here, but Dyche is a really respectable manager. You just know that he is going to structurally improve any team he manages. Class.
Came here after watching Dycheball against Arsenal
He knows what he’s talking about! Let’s hope he can do it for us👏👏😎😎🙏
Dyche is the best manager who can implement 4-4-2 in modern football 👏👏
Sean Dyche - always impresses.
Man legit told us that this is how it made sense to him, and I frikken love it because it worked
Succinct clear information for the aspiring coach. Best explanation of 442 defending 101
Hope he does really well with Everton as he's a top bloke. From a lifelong Leeds fan.
Awesome video. Shows the intricacies of a seemingly ‘simple’ formation and the dynamic nature of tactics.
Dyche is such a likeable guy, wish him all the best at Everton
I really love this manager and this is coming from an arsenal fan who recently lost to Everton.
A great manager and tactician. I hope he comes to Everton🤞
“He can’t cover everything all at once… unless your Kante he can 😅”. Thank you N’golo for all those years! Chelsea Legend 💙
this tactic would be unstoppable in high school if our coach, who played 4-4-2 all the time, understood anything about pressing.
The Man, the Myth, the Legend!
Couldn't believe it when Burnley finished 7th and went to Europe. Had no right considering the resources.
This guy is a proper gaffer. I love you sean dyche
Give this man a mid table PL club with a budget, and watch him become the next King of the Europa League for years to come.
Made for Everton then surely. We should have some money to spend after selling Richarlison and hopefully Gordon.
@@sukhdevr3489 Everton have always had the money, its how you spend it that counts
People never understand that managers have to go so in-depth to play a system properly, ifs never as simple as football manager makes it look
Great masterclass, top notch.
Always knew Sean Dyche was a genius but I never knew he was this good.
Apparently this approach will secure our footballing future.
This is now more relevant than ever!
The thing that is interesting to me is he changed his tactics on where the game is being played. As he mentioned he had to play slightly different on away days than on home games which you might not think about. I assumed he played the exact tactics at home and away
Amazing simple formations and instructions to completely simplify the game. He did a fab job at Burnley
World class manager !
Watching after great performance against Arsenal! And I’m an Arsenal fan 😅😢
Underrated manager
I like that this breaks down to, play the best system for your players. He didn’t want to use modern formations and short passing because it didn’t suit his teams strong point.
Delighted to see him back in the prem!
Great insight Sean. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Good luck to Everton, gonna be a real threat if they stick to this man - arsenal fan
