  • WTF is Autodesk Moxion...? Still don't really know! To be fair, the product is probably quality, but what the heck does this offer!

OMG I JUST REALISED the "can you hear me" was next to the intials "PS", it was Peter! He wasn't on the bog, he was stuck with a muted mic shouting into the void wondering why nobody could hear him! Mystery of Peter solved! Next mystery... why was all that slapped into a prime time introductory video!?

To shed some light, dailies refers to all the "film" shot by crews in a day. Also the "post match" review to see what the director wanted was captured. Lots of data on a movie shoot. Moxion is a tool to bring all this together for the film production team in a convenient, secure environment. Looks like rooms is a MS Teams like new feature for reviewing shots stored in moxion. Was interested to see the "value" AD added with their acquisition:(

If even just 2 words of what you just said was put in the video then my video wouldn't have happened!

      How terms change over time.
"Dailies" in its original form was the 1st print made from the developed film that was used for review, with the review itself most frequently referred to as dailies. Being a bit of an old timer, I've attended dailies on several productions. Once video assist came in, film dailies went out.

All the investment to cloud based solutions are not making me feel warm and fuzzy.

Could you please get a hold of an M2 max chip Mac Book Pro - with 96 gig of ram and a decent hard drive - install parallels - then give it the heaviest 3d work you can out of Solid works Maya autocad and anything else you can think of - and gives us your findings ? I think you might be pleasantly surprised - also Mac books do not have to be plugged into a power point to work at full power. So with Apple now officially supporting the windows OS (this week) PC users now have a highly speced Mac Book Pro as a viable Mobile workstation with 20 hours of battery life.

To me, it was pretty immediately clear that this is review software for media productions. The key thing here that's different from calls like Teams/Zoom/etc. is that it that people can watch/mark up/provide feedback on media both synchronously in a call and asynchronously, plus the quality is better since media is preloaded into the system.
Agreed that the video could have been clearer to a non-media audience, but I think it got its point across well to people who would be in the market for such software.

The non-media audience is 91% of Autodesks customer base though by revenue. I dunno, I still don't think this conveys anything to anyone. I tried switching things up before recording and imagined if the footage was heavy machinery, manufacturing stuff, I still wouldn't ever have guessed on first pass that it was a cloud hosted meeting tool for manufacturing as there was no context around it or even any indication as to what part of that was the product. All it would have needed was a caption to focus your attention onto something. At the end of the day the video is meant to be marketting and if they're leaving it all down to "those who know, know, those who don't... don't" then that alone is another failure of basic marketting.

@@Neil3D Very good points-hadn't thought about the majority of revenue being engineering ==> majority of TH-cam viewers being engineering background instead of video. Thinking about it more, especially for a product launch, having more of the "why" and "background" would be helpful before launching into the "what" and "how" the software does. Great analysis!

Just as a side note BlackMagic has a big announcement in about 20 hours so maybe they rushed to get their announcement out FIRST?

Could be, seemed odd doing this a full 13 months after the buy out. Why now?

This is what happens when you let someone who spends most of their time on TikTok to produce your content.
