Cool effects throughout and nice how both performers work together to make the piece work for the listener. The notation must be crazy. Beauty is in the ear of the beholder.
Superlative on so many levels: (1.) The composition (2.) The collaborative execution of this performance (3.) The audio recording (4.) The film design and editing.
Wowwww this is AMAZING!! I love it. it’s so beautiful, inspiring, delicate and powerfull. Contemporary music with a lot of world influences. As percussionist and composer of experimental music my compliment. I will try to buy score and try to play that in italy asap.
A second ago, if you told me that pitch bend exists with mallet instruments, I would have laughed. I will still laugh. However, I now know it is possible, so that is a thing.
I enjoyed it for it's originality and it's use of various items and such. There were several great moments, but I can't say I was moved in any way. This is no fault of the composer or performers, mine alone. I don't feel like I truly understand this music. It was unique and colorful, but beyond then pitch bending with the second set of mallets (which BLEW MY FUCKING MIND) it felt sporadic and random at times. At the end of the day, I'm glad that music like this exists because I know there's people out there who do thoroughly enjoy and are moved by these things. Bravo to all involved.
You should try the piece for prepared vibraphone "Mourning Dove Sonnet" by Christopher Deane - it's incredibly moving and a good introduction to stuff like this.
Pretty contemporary, which isn't my favorite, but props to the composer to figuring out how to get that many sounds out of a vibraphone. No idea you could bend the pitch like that
Absolutely insane. I am in awe. Loved every second of it. One of the most creative pieces of music I have heard in a very, very long time. This may be an ignorant question and apologize ahead of time, but is this piece scored out? If so, how in the world do you score such a wild and vast peice of music? Thank you playing, creating and posting this work of art. Truly, I loved every second.
Has a sort of spy/suspense feel, to me. I can see someone sneaking around a huge empty building like a museum. They get spotted and a chase ensues, then they get away and go back to slinking around. Very cinematic.
Thank you! This is currently the only recording we have posted, if you would like to order the score you can do so by filling out the contact form at www.weinbergmusic.com
I have a problem, I'm great at drumset, snare, and auxiliary(for my level) but I'm bad at mallets, it's a matter of sight reading, and just reading mallet music in general. I'm used to reading things on one line( minus drum set because that's a different story) so if someone can reply how to practice sight reading or tips, or just mallet things in general, thanks
Sniker Chiken try playing scales without seen the marimba/xilo/etc, so your muscles memorise where the notes are and then, try sight reading with double and quarter notes + slow tempo
Sniker Chiken I like to draw out a scale with the notes and note names on notecards and tape them up around my house. It helped me a lot. Hope this helps. :) Also, you can buy sight reading books for mallets on amazon.
For me, I went online, and found a bunch of random pages of marimba music, like one or two lines of it. For me, I just practiced a lot. Start out simple and then ease into more difficult music. Hope this helped!
Whatever mallet music you are working on, force yourself to read it with without looking at the instrument. There will be some wrong notes, but you will get the feel for it. Resist the urge to look down at the keyboard while you are reading. This will make you a much better reader. As an additional tip for this, hover your mallets over the first two notes of a passage to give you a starting point to continue without looking.
Had Tons of fun with this reading Lab. I might be bad in reading because I'm a stuburn musician and don't like no drumline easy self gratification stuff. No pun on the movie.
3:02 THAT’S FREAKING NUTS. I haven’t seen pitch bending used like that before.
ikr, sooooo cool!!!!

What a crazy and cool use of the vibes so many different sounds. What a way to show the full potential of a vibraphone!
You've never truly realized the potential of vibes until you roll the whole thing down the stairs.
Excellent composition and interpretation , a treat. whith the crotale and damping among others
You did an amazing job of evoking an emotional response. At about 6:30 my blood pressure went up and it really made me tense. Love it!
Wow, I wonder how this is notated.
Jackie Composes probably with a lot of words and instructions in the score. The objects on the vibraphone are probably shown on a seperate image.

There’s a part that just says
*Soup Can*
probably with ink on paper not sure though could also be laser copied, depending on budget of the office they did it in
I have a copy from when I played it and it’s really not as bad looking as you would think
"Put a carrot on the vibes. Not like that - yeah, like that. Now hit it. *sigh* Sounds so cool."
I got that reference :)
Nicholas Finley this sounds so familiar but i cant remember where it is from.
Is it prepared?
plz explain 🤔

I can't say I LOVED it, but bending the sound with other mallets!!!! That was so cool!!!

When the director tells you not to put stuff on the keyboards..
"You're not my real mom!"
“This is not a table”
Those splits are absolutely insane!!

Sounds like a tense argument happening at the dinner table. Love it!
I love Alyssa! she's an amazing composer, and I had the privilege of learning from here when we were in the same studio!
Super cool and unique piece!

For the non pitched material there’s a normal 5 line staff but with x’s that denote the different instruments
There’s also mixed bar staffs and 5line staff for other parts and then normal pitched notation in the beginning and end.
I love this so much... so many kinds of sounds I never thought possible for a vibraphone piece.
1:10 they made the Vibraphone sound like a marimba! That's so cool
That Curious Artist Well, not really it still has a metallic timbre
0:22 finger hit?
AaAAa iT's NoT A TaBle
I love this! I would love to have this on cd.
Absolutely wonderful!
Awesome, beautiful creativity!
Breathtaking music! Loved it!

Vic firth has a tool where you can improve sight reading its super helpful. Also a book by garwood waley called fundementals of marimba

This looks so fun to play but so difficult to learn 😂
I'm playing this right now and yes, it is
Great! I like that a lot!
This is so enticing. Love it
Can't get over the feel and finish of the xylophone keys since.
Freaking awesome... the composition AND the playing!

When you're trying to play and a freshman messes with you and tries to copy you
It's excellent !

What are those rhythms at 5:08 ?
The ones right after she hits the drum at 5:03
@@dustindurben6549 do you mean the rhythmic structure?
Kind of reminds of some polyrhythms stacked on each other
Unique without being weird. Fun stuff. Lots of ear texture.
Great music

this one is cool
Variations of the pitch of note by the second percussionist by pressing on the blades
Cloth on the left give marimba sound in this location
Alain Le Moal no way!!! I was wondering how that marimba sound was brought to the piece
nice composition, can someone tell me where i can order this score?
Look up the name if the piece online. The composer should have it for sale either electronically or hard copy with shipping
This reminds me of prepared piano. John Cage would be very proud.
What kind of mic is being used?
Kurt Doty one that picks up sound
Is holding the bar like that safe?
Yeah. It's not like rosewood, where it would actually effect the sound quality of the bar. Many vibe players use there hands as a muffling technique.
quite good ...
2:55
cool
Very GROOVY
does it induce ASMR for anyone ... or its just me ? :p
did not know vibes had a pitch bend!

Pour cette vidéo ils pouvaient nettoyer les lames du vibraphon ! Elle sont très sales !
that setup is chekhov's gun, assault rifle and live hand grenade
It reminds me to some track from breaking bad
Game soundtrack
when the tom is on the left side of the screen but it plays on the right ear...
This kinda sounds like something from Zelda.

It's kind of wierd seeing someone dampen a vibraphone with their hands...
performance and techniques are awesome but the music makes no sense tome
