The lead singer, Terry Kirkman, was the songwriter/ poet of this song and many others (such as "Cherish"). Sadly, Terry recently passed away in September 2023. Another composition -although not a love song - is "Requiem for the Masses". (look up the song as performed on The Smothers Brothers show). It is a 6 part harmony, full voiced song that is actually a protest song about the Vietnam war. Guarantee that it is unlike anything you've ever heard. They were a truly remarkable band
Easily one of the most beautiful songs EVER written in the pop/rock area. The songwriter, Terry Kirkman, who also wrote the brilliant "Cherish," just passed away last week.
this is from '68, & it's my all-time #1 song by these very underrated guys. this is another song they labored over trying to get the 6 part harmony right. Terry Kirkman wrote it also.
I grew up in the 60's and yes these are beautiful lyrics and harmonizing.Very romantic and words any woman would love to hear. Thanks guys for writing and singing such great songs.
When I was in high school I was going to go on a first date with a nice guy. When he came to pick me up of course he had to come in. (House rules) He went straight to the piano and played and sang this and Cherish. ❤❤❤❤❤
Like you guys .... I was hooked on the Association during the 60's. You are are not alone in the appreciation of this quality music. With thanks to THE WRECKING CREW.
I've Loved these guys since I first heard them in the early to mid 60s,... If you can't feel them you couldn't possibly have a heart. Cherish... Never My Love...etc... Beautiful unmatched love songs.

Thank you for taking my request. This is my absolute favorite song by the Association. It is simply beautiful, and the lyrics express exactly my feelings for my late girlfriend, Julie, who died nearly seven years ago. In fact, I dedicated it to her, shortly after her death. Hang on tightly to that precious LOVE that so obviously binds you together as a couple. Thanks again ........
@@dalehood1846 Thank you so much, Dale. Your kind words are taken to heart. Time and the well wishes from good people like you have done much to heal the hurt from my loss. Thank you again.
@davidzimmerli489 great comment. I'm so sorry you lost your girlfriend. You did things right to be able to hurt the way you have. My wife left me 5 years ago after 23 years of marriage and I am still hurting like you have so I think I understand. In this song, I really like the repeated "love " at the end.
@@gregorywilliams5105 My condolences to you, Greg, on your loss. Unfortunately, this is an experience we all have in common as mortal human beings. No, "everyone" is NOT "sad and disillusioned." This is one of the most over-the-top "what's wrong with kids today?" comments I've ever seen. I have seen similar comments going back to 1900. They appear to be a common side-effect of aging. Perhaps if you did not have such a distorted view of all young people, you would feel more optimistic. How is it that you guys went down The Association rabbit hole, and you haven't reacted to their biggest hit, "Cherish" yet? This is a great song and was one of the biggest songs of 1966.
Most songs back then did not degrade women or overt sexuality references of women and they also knew how to sing, I mean you really had to have talent because we mostly saw these groups on TV or in concerts and they sounded the same as the records. Now TV did have lip syncing because some shows weren't set up to do live events but some shows did. We had word sensors back then where you couldn't use certain words in music or on the radio/TV, you would get bleeped out...and you can tell where that went over the decades. Also sexuality was hinted at, it wasn't in your face. But yeah, a great time to grow up and be respectful to all with our music and how we treated other people because that was the way it was...the 60s, peace, love and happiness for everyone.

The man in the front in the light grey jacket is Terry Kirkman. He's still alive. He left the group in 1984 to become a substance abuse counselor. The man in the front with the moustache is Jim Yester, who toured for many years and is also still alive. The Asian man was Larry Ramos, who died several years ago. The man at 4:11 was Brian Cole, who died of a drug overdose in 1972. The man with the glasses at 4:34 is named Russ. He is still alive, but he looks nothing like the way he looked here. The instrumentation of the song was perfected by the wrecking crew while the association did the vocals.the group was capable of playing live.the wrecking crew did the playing on their records among other artists of the time.hard to believe this was only in the top 40 when it should have been too 5 or 10 easily.the association still play shows around the country despite 2 of the founders jim yester and Jules Alexander front the touring band using Brian coles son Jordan performing with Larry Ramos brother del and having Paul holland and Bruce Pictor complete the touring group.terry kirkman,Ted bluechel jr,and Russ giguire retired from the road long ago though russ still helps with the business side of the group from home.Brian cole died in 1972 and Larry Ramos 2014.
Give Ed Sullivan credit if you got to be on his show you got National attention. Jim Yester and Terry Kirkman did a beautiful job on this song. I'm so proud Jim Yester made Alabama proud of him. 😊
Hey kiddies....its a big time love song...Wake up!
I don't know who the drummer is.
Sadly, Kirkman passed away yesterday. R.I.P.
@@aarongoldstein7614 That's sad to hear. RIP, Terry. He was such a talented man. The Association owed so much of their success to him.
Great choice I bought the record. If you want another tune from that era Love Can Make You Happy by Mercy from 1969 should be right up your alley.
You should try the Association's song "Requiem for the Masses", an antiwar song that is very beautiful.
RIP Terry Kirkman, who wrote this

Hey guys perfect description because these days real love like that isn’t desired as it was then as we live in a society that has become so debased.
