Lois, thank you. You make it easy to follow along. My copy turned out well, though I need to get a good dry brush. I sail and was drawn to this picture, but found your explanation of why the "boats are faced the same direction because the wind" a little humorous because just the week before, I took my wife sailing on Lake Arthur, Moraine State Park, in western Pennsylvania. There were about 30 sailboats of all sizes (ours being the smallest, and fishing boats, kayaks...) sailing like school kids running around on a playground - careful chaos, everyone approaching the wind at different angles and keeping an eye out for others. That is realistic sailing. So I titled my copy "Yacht Race" because that seems more orderly, though there is often trouble when rounding the marks. I was particularly pleased with how my sky turned out using your method with the red. I put it on a bit too strong, but after blotting it turned out probably my best sky yet (I'm a 2nd year novice in painting). The portion with the boats is my lock screen wallpaper on my cell phone. Thank you, again, for your patient and instructive tutorials.
Love the simplicity of your sailboats on sparkling water. Your hand is very steady, I am 75 and hands are shaky so I use a ruler. Love your pointy calligraphy brush.
Hi Lois while not a new watercolour painter I find I learn so much from your paintings for beginners, today it was to drag the body of the brush across the water for sparkles, I have been using the tip & could not work out why I couldn't achieve the result I wanted so thank you
Lovely result 👏👏👏 That sky has a very Edward Seago feel to it and the sparkling water compliments it perfectly. I don’t think you mentioned it but the sails could be masked out with little triangles of masking tape if people don’t have masking fluid on hand. Thanks for sharing this one 🙏
Thank you! I do love these sea paintings. You make it look easy, but I’m sure it isn’t, however I will have a go as I have all the materials to hand. Your sky is beautiful!
A brilliant tutorial, thank you so much, absolutely beautiful painting, and I will definitely look into more of your sky tutorials, so inspirational , as I am a beginner. 😊
I can’t wait to try this. I don’t have the nice Ron Ranson hake brush. However, I have several sizes of Goat hair hake brushes purchased at the Japanese dollar store, Daiso. One will hopefully work for this effect.

Very nice
Wonderful painting. I didn't understand what it was that you used to initially protect the sail boats.
💕💕💕
Thanks Danielle! 😊
Thank you
That's amazing. I have just started try painting with water colours. Can't see any paint on you Etsy page though?
Hello, I didn't get the dry goathair brush. Do you have a link maybe? Thank you!
❤
Wow that is all I can say :)
Could you do it with any other type of brush? I don’t have one like that! 😢
Another awesome painting Lois. Thank you. Dumb question, but do you run into problems that you ruined a painting, and there's no saving it?
All the time, for every reasonably successful painting there’s probably at least 3 or 4 trial and error paintings, sometimes more!
I love my hake brush for the dry brush "sparkles", which works so well with the texture of the paper. Really nice, Lois! 🙂
Thanks so much Margaret! 😊
Great technique than you
If this is for beginners I don’t even know what I am anymore 😭
I always wondered how to get that effect on the water it’s brilliant ..Thank you ❤ always enjoy your tutorials ❤❤❤
Thanks Jill! ☕️🎨
