  • Let's dive head first into figuring out what QA Engineer vs software tester actually do! I am going through what are their job responsibilities, what is a software development lifecycle and what real-life job offers actually expect from us. Obviously guys this is an overview of all of that and I try to make it as digestible as possible, so SDLC may be interpreted differently as well - I saw other definitions telling different things.
    I heard 1 like equals 5 karma points - your choice!
    Keypoints:
    00:40 - Intro in today's discussions
    00:41 - What is SDLC?
    02:00 - What is a QA Engineer by definition
    02:41 - What is a Software tester by definition
    03:01 - What does a QA Engineer do?
    03:45 - What does a Software tester do?
    04:10 - QA Engineer vs Software tester comparison
    05:16 - Checking actual job market descriptions of positions

    Cheers guys! :)

    Hi Elsa! Thank you for sharing. I'm currently looking for a new job as a QA Engineer. My last title was QA Engineer, but the role was primarily that of a software tester, focusing on manual testing. This was because my previous company had a separate SDET team for automation. It's been challenging for me to find a new QA Engineer position because I lack automation skills. What do you suggest? Should I prioritize learning automation first?

    • @elsaqa
      @elsaqa  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey again. Honestly any skills will be of help to you, but you also have to research what the job market is saying and what skills are they looking for as. Also usually they ask for experience in this too so it is usually to go into automation through company growth opportunities but of course not always. Which country are you looking from a role in? Is it the EU market or US market or other?

      @@elsaqa Ah, okay, thank you for the advice! Currently, I reside in Indonesia. However, due to numerous layoff issues within Indonesian startups, I've decided to enhance my knowledge first and explore foreign markets, perhaps focusing on the EU market. What are your thoughts? What should I study to prepare for the EU market?

    • @elsaqa
      @elsaqa  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Tata-fm1dw ah we have had layoffs on the EU side as well, market has shifted a bit, but when googling for open positions there are PLENTY open. EU market usually also want you to be a resident of it for a lot of roles that I was checking yesterday. Are you planning to stay in Indonesia?
      I would go and check their vacancies and check what they are asking for, offering to establish what it is you are maybe lacking first. Then improve on those aspects.

      @@elsaqa Ah, I thought this only impacted Indonesia, but apparently not 🥲. In my long-term plans, I aim to leave Indonesia for the foreign market, particularly the EU. Correctly, I am a software tester. How do I map the software tester to QA Engineering?

    • @elsaqa
      @elsaqa  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ahmadmutasil3012 Its more in depth sort of topic that will be a separate video as it has a lot to go over. But overall, look for what skills QA Engineers have and try to become knowledgeable in those. Try courses, TH-cam videos to learn them. Read a book. Just try to level up. Then try to level up in your current company position if possible or switch to a QA Engineer position elsewhere.

      @@elsaqa I'm currently studying Appium and Cypress. For Appium, I'm trying to take a course, and for Cypress, I'm learning by myself. Is that ok for the company's current needs? or is there anything else I need to learn besides those two things?

    • @elsaqa
      @elsaqa  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ahmadmutasil3012 you have to look for what are companies looking for and in demand these days. I dont know what your company wants. You can also ask. But i do think that all the skills you gain will never be for nothing. Skills will get you further you just have to apply them. But this is a popular automation language that is widely used too so i dont think its for nothing 🙂
