I love your attitude, "You want to do it fine, you don't that's fine too. I spent 15 years teaching preschool and that attitude actually works with the little one. I'm leaving as well. I can't take the stress anymore. I'm an introvert and the energy I expend during the day leaves me mentally and emotionally drained and teachers can never do enough. I'm not willing to spend my evenings and weekends working. I like how you brought up the negativity issue because it is absolutely true. Thanks for posting this video.

I'm also a teacher looking to leave the field. Teaching is THE MOST STRESSFUL and least supportive (by parents, staff, admin) JOB AND CAREER FIELD I've ever worked, and I've done law enforcement, marketing & event promotions and been an Army Officer. Like she said, there is NOT ONE MINUTE OF FREE TIME during the day, NONE. All the while you are required to ensure that 25-30 kids are focused and on task , all of the time. It sucks. When I'm done with work, I don't want to talk or interact with anyone. As mentioned, you are working 10 hr, non stop days. It burns you out day to day to the point that you don't have energy to speak to anyone after work, nor do you want to talk to anyone. And let's not even talk about the lack of pay.

Thanks for the video Madeline... it is so true what you mention. Making eye contact and have a good connection and have a good talk with the interviewer is the winning point. Sometime we just focus on the technical part, which is also important, but we often forget that they are also humans and it all comes down to if they liked us or not.
I just want to say thank you because I saw your videos I think early in 2021 when I was still teaching and miserable and now a year later I work from home as a quality assurance tester when I didn’t even know what it was a year ago and wouldn’t have gone this way if I didn’t see your videos. How did you pivot and land a QA job? Did you also know someone?
Good for you and the tremendous effort you put into this accomplishment, but the moment you said that you had a friend within that company as a referral, was like a punch in the face. I have been looking for a QA tester job for a while without a single interview and here I am sitting with two bachelor's degree, CS and IT, certificates in python, over 5 years of experience with manual and automation testing. Companies prefer to hire someone just because of a referral. It's the reality of the job market, and man it's sad and frustrating.
I think it is impossible not to find a Job with your qualifications. Did you tried looking at indeed or LinkedIn?
If you can't get a job in the industry, I'm really concerned now as I just started a QA course and have no "magic" connections.
So it's basically corruption over qualification. 😢

Hi dear Madeline, I love your vibe and the way you inform all of us in your video's. I'm currently in a job transition after being a nurse combined with lifestyle coach to QA analyst. Just started getting into it and get certifications. I have worked 13 years in family doctors clinics and I am just exhausted from it. I'm looking into QA and this video is very insightful. Thank you so much for this.
I left teaching after 1 year in the classroom. I remember how all first year teachers were supposed to have a mentor. About three months in, the school "reassigned" mine. When my class went to crap, they "couldn't understand what happened" and blamed and bullied me for not doing better. I asked for help and was ignored. Seriously, the public school system is a joke. Unsupportive, inane rules, unrealistic goals, reducing children and staff to numbers on a graph, and overall callous.
I left for an IT position where I still get to train and problem solve, but I am actually valued by my employer and my clients listen (partly because they're paying a pretty penny). At entry level, my IT job pays the same as my old teaching job would compensate someone with several years experience just without any of the stress. Also, my "mentors" are all of my colleagues and they have all been supportive of my professional growth.
Teachers, go where your talents and intelligence are appreciated.
What kind of training did you do for that position? I have an English Language and Literature degree and have a Master of Education degree
@@annasophia7977 I realize I didn't mention my role--it is as an implementation specialist. A lot of teacher skills carry over from creating documentation, training clients to use the software/application, and managing multiple projects and timelines. I was self taught in my transition. I used Free Code Camp to learn about front end and studied SQL scripting enough to take and pass Microsoft exams. Every software company will expect different hard skills (in terms of programming languages and IT knowledge) based on what they sell but the skills developed as a teacher are transferrable and attractive in my role since IT has a reputation for attracting more antisocial personality types. I have found it to be a great entry level role and it's preparing me for more technical (and highly compensated) roles as well.

Yup teaching is soooo much to do, exhausting! I usually need to get home and sleep after teaching. I totally get the thing about not being able to communicate after work, and other people just can't understand it, I don't want to be rude but sometimes have felt like saying just please don't talk to me for like an hour, so my mind can just settle from the overwhelm! I found your channel coz I'm researching QA work for career change, so this is really interesting to me- teaching does really burn you out! I relate sooo much to what you say about having to be "on" all the time when you teach. And you can't take it a bit easier or get support from colleagues when you're at work with a bad cold or headache, for example!
ahhhh so sorry you are also feeling burnt out with teaching! I think some personality types are more suited to how people-centered teaching is. Definitely true that you can't really pass your class off to a coworker when you're having a particularly bad day 😂

I've been watching a few "Why I Quit Teaching" videos, and I relate the most to yours. Personality-wise, I am very similar. I love reading interesting things, I love learning, but I also really don't care if a student is not interested. If a student doesn't want to do the work, that is on them. Trying to motivate even just a half-dozen students, let alone 20-30, is difficult. Multiply that times 4 and it is just too much. I also hate being "on" all day. I find that I cannot bring the same level of enthusiasm and focus to all of my classes, even within the same day. On some days of the week, I honestly just want to skip a class - this sounds so irresponsible, but I would like days where I can contribute without having to present, motivate, hand-hold, and lead people. I love doing some of that, but doing it all day every day is not easy for me. The challenging part for me is that I am just barely finishing up 1 year of teaching. Maybe teaching something else, like Career & Technical Education, would be better for me. Some things, like art, photography, some of those other electives, still involve some "teaching", but they also involve more workshopping, more creativity, and more flexibility with scheduling. Enjoyed the video.
*** Also, one of the things that I have found MOST challenging is that it is all on YOU. In other jobs you might just be responsible for a small piece of a larger puzzle in a company or organization... As a teacher, there is no one else. There may be a teaching team, but you are solely responsible for teaching your subject, and you plan/create/deliver/evaluate/support/mediate... and more. That is a large range of skills that people in other jobs don't have.
Ahhh yes I totally know how you feel! I would encourage any teacher to give it at least 2 years, because that first year is just...so new and so hard.
Teaching at the college level could also be an option for you (although that might require further education first)! Still a very demanding job, but I feel like professors are able to place more responsibility on the adult college students.
At the end of the day though, you deserve to be in a job that is right for you. I struggled with feeling "selfish" for no longer being a teacher, but it helps to remember that the students deserve teachers who truly want to be there, that really is better for everybody.
Good luck in your journey with this! Whatever you decide, remember there really aren't "right" or "wrong" choices. There are just different choices to create the life you want to live. (:
Thanks for your reply. I do want to give it another year... but I also ask myself if I think my feelings towards it will change. If things will be different or better in 3-5 years. They might be a little easier, but judging by what most teachers say, it is still pretty crazy 5 years in. But really, should I be waiting 3-5 years to see if I like my profession?? (Rhetorical question).
I’ve had a lot of uncertainty around teaching jobs in the first place... my last 3 roles in schools (Paraeducator, Student Teacher, Teacher) I was hired after the school year started. This year looks like it will be the same. Part of me feels like if the uncertainty is all the same, I should try doing work that I find engaging and fun and puts me in a creative flow... and see if I can make that happen. If I have massive uncertainty anyway... why not go for that?

Whew, yes! I am currently transitioning from leaving my job as a Center Director, and moving into a non profit that is so much more up my alley!
I really appreciate this video! I just had my first day as a QA analyst in my current company I was already employed with. I had a connect in the dept and it is a lot. I never had the experience as well. I felt a little overwhelmed today. I hope I can do this I beat myself up at the end of that and thought what have I got myself into.

I’ve enjoyed Tech Ed for years and started college with a major in General Studies so I could see what’s out there. My sister (Math teacher) had suggested I teach Tech Ed because of my interest in it.

Watching your vids is like looking through a mirror. I worked as an English teacher for 12 years. Similarly, I and no idea what to do with my life after high school, so English Language Teaching was kind of an obvious career path. I've been working as a QA for almost 2 years and, even though I miss teaching sometimes, I wouldn't change the life I've got at all! Teaching is sadly an underpaid and underrated job. 😿

As a QA engineer I feel this is totally underrated which is not, you still need education as programming to become really good at it. Just being a tester is not enough for this career, I am not trying to be negative about it, I feel you can change careers if you put enough effort. It is also crazy the amount of people you have to compete with now as a non related career, if you don't study programming nowadays and you don't have any contacts the truth is that is not going to land you a QA job.

Thank you for your service. Seriously, I thought about teaching when I was in college, but I knew it was not a good fit for me. You aren't just teaching a subject, to some extent (and sometime to large extent) you end up raising children and you need to speak at least two languages - at least in southwest.
So I say not only should you get more time to prepare for the day, you should paid more. A lot more.
Hi, If I didn't miss the part you took lessons about java selenium Manuel testing etc. you are the first person I have ever heard went directly to the interview with zero knowledge. You are very lucky, a lot of people include me taking very expensive (15.000$) courses for 1 year and then try to have an ISTQB certificate to just the go to the interview. I hope I will make it to the end

Ah that’s a good question!
Right, I don’t remember being asked super technical questions. There were two interviews, and on the first interview I was given a kind of “test” where I looked at a sample webpage and had 20 minutes to find as many things wrong as I could. But that’s as technical as it got!
@@MadelineElaineYT what did you have in your second round of interview?
No one should have to TEACH more than 4 hours/day. The rest of it all takes it 4+ hours/day. Unfortunately the system is not set up for teachers to have the prep time that they need to sustain and be successful in the long run. Better at some private schools. Worst at Title I schools.
YES can you imagine the quality of education if teachers had adequate time to prepare engaging lessons?? I'm glad to hear it's better in some schools!
The prep time is taken up with grade level or subject meetings and filling in for absences.
@@ArtLenLa Yup. Forced collaboration and alignment have gone too far. Mandated team data meetings aren't productive or efficient for most veteran teachers and spur many to seek non-classroom roles; they grow sick of the act of it all and having not 1 minute of autonomy over their time all day long.

So just to be clear you received on the job training for manual QA or AQ Analyst, similar to doing a certification course? How long was training provided?
Our story’s are similar.
I worked in a call center and when issue would come up I would try to fix them/see why they happened. so, when QA need him from the call center to test a new website my manager suggested me. I help for about a year doing call center work and QA work then I got hired with QA.
Did they train you on the job?
I finished an English literature University in Europe and was supposed to teach English. Also being an introvert doesn't help. I'm doing video game testing at the moment, but studying to get a future job in qa and finally automation qa

Ok so hear me out… I don’t have a bachelors degree or high school diploma. But I’ve recently been interested in QA testing because I’m pretty good with software. Especially music software! And my only job experience is really bartending, I don’t really know how I can make a transition from that.
What kind of salary range do you think someone could start out in QA? I quit teaching a few years, and really want of it was I needed to earn more money. I know you don’t mention salary in this video, but I really would like to earn more than $60K. Do you think that’s possible without any formal training in QA? I see average salaries are around $70K online but not sure if that is a bit inflated. Do you ever find it boring? Thanks!

I have decided to remain a substitute as that enabled me to have more time outside of work (not having to lesson plan or mark and stuff) but what holds me back from changing careers is not having the freedom to take time off and having to request time off etc :'( I cant imagine just having 2 weeks off in the whole year

5:58 That is for any job, for life, actually! You can be excellent, the best in what you do, but if you do not have good connections, things are pretty rough! And sometimes you get things just by knowing people, without the need of any kind of qualifications, which does not sound fair to me, but that is life, as they say.
I feel so discouraged after hearing your experience. I have zero connections and landing a job seems highly unlikely.
I'm moving to ece teacher from frontend developer after my daughter was born. I had 3 years career gap that I couldn't chase up the latest stuff that's been changed a lot since then. Do you need to know any programming languages as a test analyst? I still want a job in IT industry but something that I don't need to code. I think test analyst is something that I was looking for.
