    37 years ago, this brings tears to my eyes because it was when both my parents were alive and sitting and watching these Celtic games with them, brings back memories of them I'm sure there's plenty of other people reading this that can relate, love you Mom and Dad , miss you both still!

    Yeah, keep showing those Pistons games (1987-1992) win or lose, you learn about a lot of great basketball throughout history. Those teams showed half court execution, defense, mental toughness, and both successes and failures. Wonderful team to watch and it was sad to see that team break up.

      People remember them for being dirty, but they had a very collective approach to basketball, one of the reasons the team was better with Aguirre instead Dantley in my opinion. Gritty,physical, defensive minded team with no Egos, everyone played their roles well. Great coach and a deep bench. They should have 3peated if not for that awful officiating in the 1988 finals.

      @@davidschmidt227 Yeah, the core of the Pistons and the reason why they were successful is because of their mental perseverance because the foundation was half court execution, defense, manipulation of the clock, score, time, and opponent and running the actual pace of the game their way making the court theirs.... Even prior to them winning before they got Rodman/Salley, look at their offense, they could always score because their half court offense was about timing and putting the players in positions who could score in the areas of the floor where they could operate...they became a more timely patient offensive team because they grew and calmed down playing a 48 minute game...they couldn't get stops prior to 1986-87 when they drafted Salley/Rodman the perfect ingredients needed to have 12 fouls, play defense and guys who don't need the ball to be successful on the floor, so your offense spreads out...this is why they got rid of Dantley in 1989 because he held the ball, even though he could score, versus the good defensive teams and at the ECF/Finals level, you could key-in on one guy and your offense could become predictable....Just look at the Lakers in '88 defensively, they could easily get stops vs. Detroit because Dantley wasn't a passer nor as deep of a perimeter threat as Aguirre.... Mark Aguirre opened up the court, even though he didn't have a great 1989 Finals statistically, he opened up the court and Dumars got Finals MVP...you cannot have one guy holding the ball enabling the defense to know when and how to manipulate a double-team, trap, or how/when to help, you have to keep the defense guessing -- that's what Detroit did offensively.
      Vinnie Johnson/James Edwards: Remember in '91 when they lost, people think they got old but it was injuries while Detroit NEVER ran their offense; Thomas took 9 shots in each of the first two games; Laimbeer took 7 shots in game 1 and only 2 shots in game 2; Dumars took just 10 shots in game 1 and 10 in game 3 while Daly only played Edwards 11 minutes in game 2 and just 9 minutes in game 3 while Salley got just 9 minutes in game 2....So the Pistons chose to lose that series and go out on their own terms -- they let Chicago win but nobody would believe it unless they study the game...then what happened? Pistons' GM, Jack McCloskey waived Vinnie Johnson and traded James Edwards to the Clippers in the summer of '91.... Detroit went from a team going to 4 straight Finals trying to 3-peat being injured still winning 50 making it to the ECF with those guys in '90-'91 to not having Vinnie Johnson/Edwards being totally healthy in 1991-92 and winning only 48 games getting beaten in the first round by the Knicks -- that's the impact of 'Buddha' and 'The Microwave'.
      3-Peat: They could have 3-peated in '91 but the politics of the NBA got in the way while the NBA wanted to usher in the Jordan-era. Think about the politics of this situation; prior to the 1990-91 season Chuck Daly was named Olympic coach; the NBA just signed their new NBA/NBC contract; Jordan was in his prime; Isiah and the Pistons were Kings of the NBA; Magic/Bird were getting older and Portland was the new West team.... People forget, the Bulls at the start of the 1990-91 season were known as a 'choke' team who couldn't come through vs. Detroit and only Detroit...remember the Pistons 'broke' them mentally in game 7 in the 1990 ECF toying with them in that entire series....Jordan was great but that team was weak-minded and really a CBA team....So now what has to happen? Thomas winds up hurt in Jan of 1991 with a wrist injury?...They had to repair the tendons in his wrist and fused his bone on his shooting wrist....So am I supposed to believe this?...Okay, well Thomas said during the pandemic (its on youtube) concerning the 1989-90 panel where James Edwards was on there with George Blaha that the doctors told Thomas his career (not just his season) was over...but he came back to help the team but he said he shouldn't have come back that season....So why come back? Because the script and story is Jordan winning and they have to beat Detroit....Now during the pregame show of the X-mas game between Detroit/Chicago, Pat Riley gave it up and told everyone that Chicago would win that year, he wasn't picking them to win, but he said that Chicago would ultimately overcome Detroit -- so that was a written script and Thomas played his role perfectly...this is why I pointed out the shots Thomas took (only 9 in game 1 and 9 in game 2) and Daly played his role in the minute distribution, so this is why the Pistons LOST ON PURPOSE and walked-off going out on their own terms. The 3 guys that led the infamous 'walk-off' were all from Chicago: Mark Aguirre, Bill Laimbeer, and Isiah Thomas -- they went out on their own terms and them not shaking hands was a peaceful protest to let the public know that this wasn't real...then what?...Why break up that championship-contending team in the off season? You see how it works? Make it easier for Jordan to win and then win back-to-back. It's scripted.

      They would have went to the Finals in 87 had it not been for Larry Bird stealing the ball in the Closing Seconds of Game 5! Also, Had it not been for that stupid ghost Foul called on Laimbeer on Kareem in Game 6 of the 88 finals, they would have gotten the 3-peat as NBA Champions.

    • @plainsimple244
      @plainsimple244 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheSmoothoperator316 Yeah the more I look at that pass by Thomas the more I can tell he did that on purpose -- Mahorn and Rodman were on the other end of the court but he threw it to Laimbeer right underneath the Celtics offensive end because he trusted Laimbeer at the foul line -- the pass was on purpose because Thomas' aim was Laimbeer and he didn't trust either the rookie Rodman or Mahorn at the line....Even if Thomas threw it to them, it would not have been a steal and score, he could have thrown that ball to his offensive end of the court and even if someone stole it, it would not have wound up with that result...plus he had a timeout and failed to call one, so he made three mental mistakes but ran to take the ball out when once again, TRUST, normally it would have been a big man or a non-foul shooter like Rodman/Mahorn to take it out.
      1988 - The Pistons just got cheated; everyone knew this....I heard a story from a poster kerceno4life and he was saying the betting was so much in favor of the Lakers that Vegas couldn't cover the money if Detroit won...I don't know how true that is but it makes sense...he also mentioned that David Stern apologized to Isiah Thomas telling him it was business...so the Pistons were cheated; the guy Karceno4life made the video public and he mentioned it so once again, I don't know how true that is but it would make sense.
      1991: That was Detroit just giving that series to Chicago and if you look at the foul shot attempts for 3 guys it was 117-76 Chicago, Detroit just won the foul shooting in game 3 by 1 foul shot....So Thomas took just 9 shots i n game 1 and game 2; Dumars too just 10 shots in game 1,3; Lamibeer took just 7 shots in game 1 and only 2 shots in game 2 while Daly played Salley just 9 minutes in game 2 while playing Edwards just 11 minutes in game 2 and only 9 minutes in game 3 -- minutes and shot attempts have NOTHING to do with the opponent(s), that's on the team themselves....So the Pistons purposely lost that series, had they not played their front court major minutes and their guards not shot the ball vs. Atlanta/Boston they would have lost...they did that with Chicago, a team they were 26-9 against beating them 3 straight years in the playoffs from 1988-1990...so the Pistons did that on purpose -- the shot attempts and minutes were given on purpose....
      Make Sense: Imagine Michael Jordan just taking 9 shots in game 1 and 9 shots in game 2? Imagine Pippen doing like Laimbeer just taking 7 shots in game 1 and only 2 shots in game 2 or just like Dumars taking only 10 shots in game 1 and 10 in game 3 while Phil Jackson played Grant only 11 minutes in game 2 and 9 minutes in game 3 while playing Cartwright only 9 minutes in game 2....I mean if Chicago did that, particularly Jordan doing that, he would be trashed in the media for losing on purpose and 'giving up'...but because people hated the Pistons and Isiah they just ignore these things.

      @@davidschmidt227I don’t think people realize how deep and good Detroit was. 4 HoF at one point. After the trade, they became a more cohesive unit. People focus a lot on the negative and not appreciate this era of basketball. Team continuity was so much better back then.

    With all the respect to Boston, a team coming off an all time dominant season in 86, they were withering slowly at this point. Their home court was the only thing keeping them afloat in this series. Detroit was running them off the floor at the Silverdome. Pistons were way fresher and younger overall at this point. It's not just age but the accumulation of years of May and early June basketball that ages a team even faster. In any other era absent two championship icon teams led by two championship icon players, Detroit wins 3 and maybe even 4 titles. By 91, Detroit knew how Boston was feeling in 87, and 88. Gave way to a younger, fresher, and probably hungrier Chicago team.
