I hated Larry Bird with a passion but that's just a sign of how great he was ( nothing personal) and today I believe he's the greatest basketball player to ever play with regards to shooting, rebounding and passing. Only player in NBA history to average 24 pts, 10 rebounds & 6 assists for career. Throw in the smartest, most clutch player & he's my GOAT 🐐

Oh for sure he’s the best all around player ever, one of the most respected too…the only thing that stopped him from being the #1 GOAT was all his injuries, if he stayed healthy they would’ve won atleast 2-3 more championships 85/87 especially if our #1 draft pick didn’t die from that overdose the night he got drafted (I can’t remember his name rn). But there were so many chances that were stifled by injuries and to be the GOAT I feel like he needed 1/2 more rings

That had to be tough for Walton for sure! Celtics took a chance trading for him but it worked out good at least for a couple years. Its sad the way he went out. I guess he had really tough time with depression after he couldn't play anymore. Bird went to see him regularly... trying to cheer him up & get him to move on. But Walton wanted to be left alone. So Larry stopped going over to see him.

I think Larry Bird is one of the top 5 GREATEST players of all time. He moved the needle,as he put the Celtics back on the map and led them to their rebirth and Championships 🙂 He and Magic truly saved the NBA. Most fans don't know this BUT before Magic and Larry came up town some NBA games were on tape delay on CBS. Rather than watching an NBA game live it came on at 10:30 at night and you already knew who won. Ratings were NOT good in the late 70's 🤯 Majic and Larry ended that pretty quickly as it was SHOWTIME when they took the court. Then Michael Jordan entered the picture and they NEVER looked back 😊

Then weeks later now randomly i get a suggestion for the 83/84 season.... so they have it for every season. 80s basketball was amazing, back when rivalrys meant something, teams won by playing a team game unlike today which is just assemble the best bunch of shooters. Also damn Larry was an assassin, i notice the levels of social media lafloppa vs jordan memes have reached window licking, helmet wearing levels trying to shill for james..... how come theres never and james/bird comparisons. Can't fault Houston. These were some great games to watch. I don't watch NBA any more. I miss the centers and forwards doing what they are supposed to do. I miss the variety of ways, and plays to score, from outside and inside. The three point shot abuse, or prevalence, has just about ruined the game, for me. What other, ball through a goal sport, gives a bonus for distance from the goal? I can't think of one.

@@dutchmandave6605 Yes Bird was a killer and what I liked most about him was there were no nights off with Larry Bird. It didn’t matter if it was a regular season game or the playoffs or an all star game he would fight till the death. He played hurt, sick, etc. And his basketball IQ, court vision and awareness, reflexes was off the chart. We can argue about who’s the greatest player ever but in my opinion Larry Joe Bird was the greatest small forward to ever play in the NBA. Even today nobody understands the game of basketball better than Larry Bird.

@@hectorlopez1069And one of those games, game 3, you could say the Celtics got screwed over by an inadvertent whistle, Houstons only real win, was a game 5 blow out, but the Celtics were playing relaxed at that point, seeing they had both game 6 and 7 at home, so why kill themselves to win in game5 at Houston, when they can just wrap it up in game 6?

7'4" Ralph Sampson was a big part of that 85-86 team too. Twin towers didnt get to the Finals beating the Lakers to get there on accident. That was a great team

You mean Dirk is similar to Larry since Larry played first. Larry was a way better passer than Dirk and Larry gave his body to the game, something that Dirk didn't do. Larry's basketball IQ is probably the best in NBA history.

Put the bong down. Dirk was great but never in the same realm as Larry.

Similar? Bird is in the Hall of Fame 3 times, player, manager, and dream team... end of discussion.

I mean no offense, but how is Ralph Sampson in the HOF? Sure, he was a good player… but he played for just 9 seasons. However, it’s more like the equivalent of 7 seasons at best. He averaged 15.4 points and 8.8 rebounds. Respectable, but hardly HOF worthy. No titles. No MVP’s. No DPOY’s. There are plenty of players that averaged better that aren’t ever getting in.

Here's the thing Rockets never had a chance. The Celtics were better in every aspect of the game as apposed to the Rockets. They were lucky they were not swept. Akeem should have fouled out before halftime in every game. He was as dumb then as he is now. Barely in top ten of centers all time. Bring it on, I'm waiting.
