These 'What If' videos are probably my favorite of your output. Always very well thought out and difficult to argue against being the way the alternative(s) would have played out.
Oh I love this concept 😃 To the biggest "what if's"..mine was always: how On Her Majesty Secret's Service or Casino Royale would have been with Timothy Dalton? Or Licence to Kill with Connery, or Craig?
I’ve wondered this myself I have a few gripes such as who would play Kerim bay in frwl but it still works well done looking forward to finishing it next week
Another alteration I would do: go with Sean Connery all the way upto Goldfinger (1971), including having him do Dr No (1969) Then Start with George Lazenby with For Your Eyes Only (1973). And Then have Roger Moore jump in with Thunderball (1974) until Man With The Golden Gun (1983) for 5 films and then Timothy Dalton for Octopussy (1985) and The Living Daylights (1987). Funny that The Spy Who Loved me (1977) and The Living Daylights (1987) are made in the exact years they were made.
I dont think they would make From Russia with love bombastic with volcano since there is no context of volcano in the book. And I think they would have left it at the cliffhanger of bond dying by poison from Rosa Klebb as Sean Connery wanted to leave and leave it at that. That would make it dark and serious.
I remember seeing a forum thread a while back discussing what could have happened if the films were made in the order of the books. It was mentioned that although CR is a great introductory, it wouldn't have been gripping for the big screen at the time. That's why DN was chosen to be first. Like you say, probably wouldn't have been as cinematic. LALD probably would have been controversial in 1963 due to the Martin Luther King Civil Rights Movement. A '67 FRWL could feature Ilse Steppat as Rosa Klebb. Would Sean Connery still be interested in playing 007 by a '71 GF regardless of how exciting the plot might be? Gert Frobe could still play Goldfinger because after all, he was down to play the villain's twin brother in the original draft of DAF. If not, he could always be Drax in the '64 MR. You could have said with Guy Hamilton directing that movie alongside Shirley Bassey singing the opening song, it is Connery's most successful outing hence they are brought back for Goldfinger.
Hm...🤔 The only chronological book order I care about would be that involving _On Her Majesty's Secret Service_ and _You Only Live Twice_ . Indeed, such back-to-back presentation might have become reality, had there been a sufficient quantity of snow in the Swiss Alps at the suitable time. Under such *counterfactual* , Thomas Sean Connery would have starred in both films - faithfully adapted from the novels, in order - and would have been done with the series, period - no entanglement with Kevin McClory and Jack Schwartzman, not even a one-off return to EON "officialdom" (Diamonds Are Forever would have comprised of a totally different storyline, one that would have been led by another actor, even an American one like John Gavin). Of course, such 'correction' would have affected other, derivative endeavours as well, notably Austin Powers, which began its cinematic run spoofing the 1967 on-screen version of YOLT, which, aside from a few characters and the locale, has nothing to do with the revenge-themed novel.
Alternate timeline, where movie cant be more than a few spots away from where it was released and there is still some continuity of Novels 1. From Russia With Love (1962) (-1) Sean Connery 2. Dr No (1963) (+1) Sean Connery 3. Goldfinger (1964) Sean Connery 4. Thunderball (1965) Sean Connery 5. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1967) (-1) Sean Connery 6. The Living Daylights (1985) (-1) Roger Moore 15. Casino Royale (1987) (-6) Timothy Dalton
I love the speculation about this. As it is in the real time-line, DAF would likely be the most different from the book. The novel is one of the weakest ones and would have to be jazzed up for film. Looking forward to part 2.
Possibly, if following the chronology of the books, Live And Let Die would have likely to be Connery's debut instead of Dr. No, it would fit too, it doesn't need a bit amount of budget, set in Jamaica, and not much action. From Russia With Love (1963) filmed in 1963 because John F. Kennedy had put the book in his Top Ten Favorite books, so there's a favor to be made. Thunderball (1965) was happened because of Kevin McClory's request to film the book with him participating in the book's adaptation to the screen. You Only Live Twice (1967) wouldn't be filmed, if not for Roald Dahl who personally chose the book, because he thought it's the "worst Fleming book", unless we would get a different writer in 1967, if I'm to pick, I would prefer Moonraker to be Connery's Bond film, as much as I liked the 1979 Film with Moore (despite of it being Star Wars-esque), I'm interested to see the book got adapted starring Connery. The Man With The Golden Gun was considered to be filmed in 1969 with Moore in the lead role, set in Cambodia, but Moore's contract with The Saint prevented it, added to that the uprising Political war in Cambodia which prevented it from happening, it's not until 1974 that it would be filmed, then they've noticed the Snow in Switzerland that led to the Producers to adapt OHMSS. I think it's sometimes depend on their budget on what book is going to be filmed, and also on the availability, there are several reasons as to why these books were filmed out of order.
IMHO, I can't agree with the FRWL one Connery would still give a good performance there cause Connery always wanted a down to earth Bond film so he would still love from Russia in this timeline, and still give a good performance unlike the Yolt
good ide, then it all fall part when u go daniel craig with darker bond, oh dear but i had some ide and proberbly other as well their own way to do bond , i have only 4 actors in my bond era -62 -32.
This is the grand daddy of all james bond what ifs ever!

Sean in a more-grounded Moonraker and Lazenby in Dr. No excite me the most out of these possibilities.

My What if How For Your Eyes Only, Octoppusy and AVTAK would have been with Timothy Dalton?
How would the Fifth movie of Pierce Brosnan be like?
FWIW, the Raymond Chandler novels featuring Philip Marlowe weren't filmed in order, either.

Great concept! Very cool idea
Should've typed in book order instead of chron order, cuz people could get it confused with a similar vid IGN made
Interesting video!

Ha, this video stopped at Goldfinger.
I am reluctant to post my original comment to the _next_ video, though it is better suited there.
That would’ve been fun

Which James Bond novel should have been used for Pierce Brosnan's Fifth and Final movie?
None; all the Ian Fleming-writren novels would have been used up by then.
@@bonghunezhou5051 Maybe Pierce Brosnan's Fifth and final movie should be based on the 'Man with the Red Tattoo' Raymond Benson's 007 novel
