I used iMovie for a number of years on my Mac. I now use Final Cut Pro X (I worked in TV for many years, so I already knew how to edit, just not digitally) but I really recommend iMovie for those who want to learn the skills and basics. Besides, it's free with Mac computer products (well, the ones I have anyway). Back in the day, when FCP X was over a thousand U.S. dollars (and on a disc to boot), I used iMovie for a LOT of things. I'm very happy to see some "respect" in the form of tutorials for iMovie. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for your valuable input. I agree it is a great app for those just starting out and even if you have some experience with more pro editors it certainly deserves respect for what it allows you to do on an iPhone. Thanks for checking out the video!

Thank you so much for this word perfect video, presented by a highly intelligent master communicator. Enjoyed every second of it. Great video to understand the fundamentals of editing before aspiring to use the big stars such as Filmora etc. Best wishes.
Thanks so much for watching and for the amazingly positive feedback! Greatly appreciated. So well written I may have to use this for a testimonial somewhere! Happy editing and best wishes!
Very clear and concise video. But it still doesn’t answer my question. I am looking for a method to increase saturation vibrancy or brightness of clips after adding it to the timeline. None of the presets filters look good on my travel videos and there is no option of changing Colors after adding it to the I movie which is little bit disappointing.
Thank you SOOOO much for this. Finally a comprehensive, yet thoughtfully composed how-to video, that I could follow and implement! I would have paid $$$ for this.
Once you download the soundtrack, tap on it and you'll see a sub menu below. tap on foreground and it will change the sound track from a background track to foreground element, it will go from green to blue in colour. Now tap on it and move the yellow handles in from the left or drag it along the timeline.
OMG, I just came upon this video, and how amazing and helpful it is! I’m completely illiterate on editing photos/videos in any aspect and have been wanting to learn some of the beautiful technics for the longest time. Your teaching tools/skills are absolutely PERFECT; very clear, detail, great speed, etc. I can’t wait to learn through your other videos as well and put the skills to good use. Thank you so much!
I did just as you said. Your idea to select a social media site cannot work for me as the people I’m sharing a short story with are mostly over 80! They only have basic equipment. I simply want to create a link to effectively a closed group. Now it tells me on WhatsApp that the link cannot be shared! Movie running time less than 10 minutes. Thanks for your continued support and help.
If you have a large video you may have to use Dropbox. It’s a free app and service for uploading large files. When you install it on your phone it will appear as an option in iMovie to export to. Then you share the link to your friends.
Very detailed and thorough tutorial. I really appreciated it, and this definitely would’ve saved me a lot of time had I seen this a lot earlier in my TH-cam journey! Thanks a lot!
Great tutorial. Now I need to improve my filming skills so I have good footage to edit. Thank you....clear and close enough to really see what you are doing and perfectly paced for beginners.

This is soooo helpful. OMG Thank You. Can you tell me how I can add multiple texts? I tried adding the titles and it stayed for my entire video. How to add the title for the first 5-10 seconds and then no text at all. :) Thank you again such a great video. I learnt so much

Hi Touch Technology, I had a corporate video production company in Sydney called Coopervision Productions from 1986 to 2010. During this time we used offline and online editing with tape machines and moved to Final Cut Pro when it was introduced. iPhones came in with 1080p cameras and the lucrative corporate video scene died around 2010. Lucky for me I was approaching retirement age. Your explanation of iMovie for iPad and iPhone makes me want to edit my music clips as a hobby here in Thailand. I thought I'd never say this but... good on you! I wish you success, you deserve it you are a great communicator.
Hi David, great to hear from you. I too have been running a digital media company for some years and have seen so much disruption with the onset of this incredible mobile technology. I have to say I enjoy creating content for my channel the most now and hoping to do more of this type of work than anything else. Glad you found the video helpful and I certainly appreciate the well wishes. All the best from Melbourne!
I just started my YT channel recently and shoot all my footage on Iphone xs and use Imovie to do all my editing...this info is going to help me so much ..I didnt know some of the things u CLEARLY and CONCISELY informed us about..Thanks so much ! Good day Mate
I film and edit on my iPad Air 2 in iOS 13.6 and have been scratching my head how to unlock the features in iMovie 2020. Now all is revealed, so thank you for a brilliant tutorial, which is really spot on!
I'm good with technology, but always had problems with videos. By just watching your video on how to create PIP and Split screen on iMovie, I was able to create a short video in less than 10 minutes. Thank you for your help.
I've been using iMovie for years on our family vacation videos but never realize there's so much more to offer in it! Glad I found your tutorial! Thanks so much! Subscribed!:)
Very nicely and clearly explained. Thanks. Please let me know whether I can remove audio or mute all the clips in the project collectively. I have many clips and it’s really a long process to remove audio from individual clip.
Thanks for watching. I haven't come across an option to mute all audio on the timeline within the iMovie app. I just completed a tutorial on Premier Rush which is a lot like iMovie, also free on iOS and it has a feature where you can mute all tracks on the timeline. If you are interested in learning more about it you can see. my video here: th-cam.com/video/7dhG8AOpV40/w-d-xo.html
This tutorial just made my day. I am no pro and have wanted to learn how to edit videos. Up till now I have been using the GoPro app that pretty much does it all for you automatically but I wanted to add some of my own creativity. I had no idea that iMove on the phone has been vastly improved. I remember using it years ago and it was very basic. Thank you for the great tutorial and am looking forward to some new projects on my phone or laptop using iMovie.
The Apple Store reps did nothing but confuse me! Now I can really get to work on my videos. Thank you for this video as well as the others. I have subscribed!
This is the best tutorial I have seen on this topic. You can follow instructions. That, unfortunately, is not the same with many other similar tutorials on this topic.
man oh man! your methodology of explaining was beyond this world.. one can be beginner in i movies before watching this vdo and can be a pro after watching... more power to you my friend......Gr8 Job
Great infovideo. How do I change the thumbnail in imovie? It seems to select a random frame from the middle of the movie. Often this is unsuitable and irelevant to the project. I want a specific image from my intro as the thumbnail. Great work.
Thanks for watching. Glad you liked the video. From my understanding iMovie will use the frame that appears at the halfway point of your video. There is no option that I know of to select the thumbnail manually to over ride this selection.
Awesome tutorial! I have made a few iMovie home videos using my iPhone & iPad. In October my son & his fiancé are getting married in a small chapel with close family members. Six guest. My soon to be daughter in law asked me if I would video their wedding. I can definitely accommodate by setting up a tripod. I’m unsure of how to get the audio of the ceremony (exchanging their vows). Please give any advice you have! Thank you in advance! I will then comply a few pictures and video with audio music & ceremony into iMovie. This way they can share their special day.
Great to hear you found the tutorial helpful! Ideally you would want to use some kind of lav microphone to capture the audio. There are many options here. If you are using your smart phone to record the video you can check out the Sabinetek mic which I reviewed here. th-cam.com/video/wnUm0qtU3IM/w-d-xo.html I have reviewed a few others on my channel in the audio playlist. Let me know if this answers your question.
Great tutorial! I had no idea how to use this app and I hardly took any videos anyway bc they use up so much memory. But after watching your tutorial, I decided to record more videos and started playing around with the app. And now I don’t care much about the memory being used bc I’ll be saving all the videos on a memory stick! Thank you so very much for this wonderful tutorial! Because of your tutorial, I’ll be using all this extra time I have during this pandemic having fun with my videos! Thanks again!
Many thanks! I searched awhile and found plenty of "tutorials" but none actually explained HOW to use the program. I was handed an iPhone and asked to edit video for my organization (I am NOT a technical person), but I think this tutorial will make it possible for me to learn to edit and be good at it! Very well done.
thank you very much for this information, I would like to ask what resolution is the best for gardening UTube, I m planning to start my Utube soon using imovie..thanks a lot!
You are very welcome. You can use either 4k or 1080p. if you are using a phone or camera with 4k this is great. However the files can be bigger, take up more space and take longer to edit. So if you find it too demanding on your hardware/software set up then just stick to 1080p Full HD video.
Hi!! Thanks for sharing this awesome demo . when I edit my videos I get edges on my videos and the video doesn’t fill the screen it’s very small how can I fix that ?? Thanks
You are most welcome! I have explained how to fix the issue of using portrait mode clips and eliminating the black edges in the following video: th-cam.com/video/0rjYIAIz9nk/w-d-xo.html
Great explanation on how to use the app. I’ve watched a couple of videos and none where clear and to the point like you were. Thanks I really appreciate your help...
In the past you could do it right from within the app, but in recent versions it has changed. You just export the movie out to your camera roll. Download and open up the TH-cam app, sign in and tap on the plus button icon at the bottom of the screen to upload into your TH-cam Channel.
Thank you for sharing this video! I had no idea what a gem I had right on my phone to help with editing... had no idea iMovie could do all this! So helpful!!
I can’t thank you enough. My windows computer doesn’t have that many good editing softwares but this helped perfectly! Thank you from my nonexistent soul
Since iMovie is a video editor, is there an easy way to edit out coughs/sneezes quickly from spoken video? The best way I’ve found so far is to select the video, choose “split”, move the slider to remove the noise, then use the “none” transition. Seems like more work than it should be. Is there an easier way?
Yes you are right about that, it is a kind of manual process using iMovie for iOS, splitting and cutting out the bits you don't want. If you use iMovie for Mac OS you can sometimes use keyframes and ramp the volume up and down this can take care of breaths and minor noised, but coughs and any other interruptions need the extra effort no matter what editor you use. Perhaps one day there will be an AI tool that does it all for us!
Thanks ,I just bought iPhone and I found it very easy to edit my project earlier I used to edit in kinemaster as I was using oneplus 7t handset,,,,, thanks one again
Is there a way to move a clip , without dragging across all the other clips? Lets say you have a 100 long clips and you want to move one from the beginning to the end, it takes too long to drag it across. Any faster options?
That is a good request. There is no noise reduction feature built into iMovie. However I know a lot of people are looking for a solution on iOS for noise reduction. So I will look into producing a video on a third party app to do that some time soon.
OMG, that was Outstanding!! Very Well Put Together. It was Truly Brilliant, the way you Explained Everything in a Concise Detailed yet Easy to Understand Format. Thank You! 🙏🏼 You are a True Educator.
Great tutorial information but for me a little too fast. Most importantly how big/large/long a movie can I make for upload to the various social media sites and email? Thank you.
I am not sure if there are any limits in length. I have tested up to around 1 hour. When you export the video out there are multiple options in relation to how big the file will be for uploading to social media or sharing via email etc.
Hi very good explanation. But, i have a question : where is the reverse function ? I can’t find it. Is it only for last version of iphone ? Here are my features : Iphone XR ios 14.4.1 Imovie 2.3.2 Thanks for answering me
No reverse on iMovie for iOS. You can do it on the Mac OS version. So if you have a Mac computer you can export the project from your phone and open it up on a Mac to complete the edit. Otherwise if you only have an iPhone you may need to look at an alternate app.
You can add up to two audio tracks in addition to the audio on your main video track. To get two tracks of audio tap on the first one and then tap on the foreground sub menu option in the bottom menu. The audio track now becomes a foreground element which means you can now tap on the plus icon and add one more background track of audio.

Fantastic content
Thanks so much!
it's crazy .....i like this app...

You're most welcome. Glad to hear the video was helpful. Cheers!
Thanks a lot 🙏🏻 I just started blogging on snapchat and wanted the tool to help me create videos! Useful tutorial for a beginner like me 🙂
Great to hear that. Best wishes with the blogging on snap! Cheers!
Me watching this to edit a speedpaint: 👁👄👁
This guys is the real deal on making tutorial videos for beginners out there. Step by step! Learned a lot.
👍
I film and edit on my iPad Air 2 in iOS 13.6 and have been scratching my head how to unlock the features in iMovie 2020. Now all is revealed, so thank you for a brilliant tutorial, which is really spot on!
Great to hear that you found it helpful. Thanks for watching and for the positive feedback!
I'm good with technology, but always had problems with videos. By just watching your video on how to create PIP and Split screen on iMovie, I was able to create a short video in less than 10 minutes. Thank you for your help.
I'm 2:27 into this video and I can already tell it's going to be the best video I've watched on the topic! Love the view of the camera. Thanks!
Awesome. So glad to hear. Hope you found it helpful!
I've been using iMovie for years on our family vacation videos but never realize there's so much more to offer in it! Glad I found your tutorial! Thanks so much! Subscribed!:)
Yes I agree, lots of features and easy to use. Thanks for watching and the sub!
I learned so much from this video! Thank you! You are very good at explaining technology!!!
Great to hear that! Glad it was helpful!
Yes iMovie has come a long way over the past few years. Very capable for an iOS app. Glad you found the video helpful!
Wow perfect explanation and examples
Thanks !
Glad to hear that. Thanks so much for watching and for your great feedback!
This is BY FAR the best iMovie editing video I have watched. Thank you. 🙏🏻
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much🙏 Appreciate the feedback!
man oh man! your methodology of explaining was beyond this world.. one can be beginner in i movies before watching this vdo and can be a pro after watching... more power to you my friend......Gr8 Job
Thanks 🙏 so much. So glad to hear that you enjoyed the video and found it helpful! Appreciate the feedback!
@@Touchtechnologyreview Thank you so much! I will definitely check out your recommendations.
Great. Feel free to ask any further questions. Always happy to help.
Great to hear that! Have fun making videos!
You're most welcome! Really pleased to hear that!
Thank you so much for such a detailed easy to follow tutorial!
You're very welcome!
Liked and subscribed! Awesome video!

You're most welcome. Glad you found the tutorial helpful. Appreciate the positive feedback!👍🙏
Wow! This is a first-class iMovie tutorial. I just created my first video on iPhone. Thank you!!!
Glad it was helpful! You're welcome!
Thanks so much for this tutorial. Now I can finally get my channel going.
Glad I could help! Well done on getting a start. Best wishes with the channel!
Very professionally done - detailed and clear direction! THANK YOU for that!
You are very welcome. Thanks for checking out the video!
thank you very much for this information, I would like to ask what resolution is the best for gardening UTube, I m planning to start my Utube soon using imovie..thanks a lot!
You are very welcome. You can use either 4k or 1080p. if you are using a phone or camera with 4k this is great. However the files can be bigger, take up more space and take longer to edit. So if you find it too demanding on your hardware/software set up then just stick to 1080p Full HD video.
I’ve been trying so hard to figure out Picture in Picture through various apps to no avail!! THANK YOU!!! Now I can adequately edit my videos 😅
Awesome tutorial. Thank you..
Thanks for watching. Glad you found the tutorial helpful!
If you want to load a song first and then add video clips , how do you do this without changing the length of the audio clip of the music?
You don’t know how much I am thankful for this video. Thanks for creating such an informative and competent tutorial.
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching!
Great explanation on how to use the app. I’ve watched a couple of videos and none where clear and to the point like you were. Thanks I really appreciate your help...
You're welcome! Thanks so much 🙏 for the feedback!
This was straightforward and easy to understand thanks 🙏
Great to hear. You are very welcome!
Does it leave a watermark on the final edited content? Also what is the length limit of the video we can edit?
No watermark and no limit in time that I am aware of. It is free software for Apple users.
so...how do you upload to TH-cam, whats the process?
In the past you could do it right from within the app, but in recent versions it has changed. You just export the movie out to your camera roll. Download and open up the TH-cam app, sign in and tap on the plus button icon at the bottom of the screen to upload into your TH-cam Channel.
Thanks. I wasn’t getting the option to upload until I selected all the options in Settings (even microphone) for TH-cam in my settings, ha.
You're most welcome. Glad it was helpful. Thanks for checking out the video!
great teaching video. Thanks!!
You are very welcome. Glad you liked the video. Thanks for watching!
Thanks. Would be nice to see where your finger is as you select, tap or drag. The red circle is too quick. Just a suggestion.
Thanks ,I just bought iPhone and I found it very easy to edit my project earlier I used to edit in kinemaster as I was using oneplus 7t handset,,,,, thanks one again
Glad it helped!
Thank you for good tutorial
you are very welcome! Thanks for watching.
They wouldn't teach you these techniques in any other video. This is the exact one I have been finding. Thanks!
Is there a way to move a clip , without dragging across all the other clips? Lets say you have a 100 long clips and you want to move one from the beginning to the end, it takes too long to drag it across. Any faster options?
GREAT VIDEO!
Thanks so much. Greatly appreciated!
Help me to reduce noise reduction
In iPhone
That is a good request. There is no noise reduction feature built into iMovie. However I know a lot of people are looking for a solution on iOS for noise reduction. So I will look into producing a video on a third party app to do that some time soon.
OMG, that was Outstanding!! Very Well Put Together. It was Truly Brilliant, the way you Explained Everything in a Concise Detailed yet Easy to Understand Format. Thank You! 🙏🏼 You are a True Educator.
Wow, thank you for that awesome feedback! Greatly appreciated! Glad you liked the video!
Here are my features :
Iphone XR
ios 14.4.1
Imovie 2.3.2
Thanks for answering me
No reverse on iMovie for iOS. You can do it on the Mac OS version. So if you have a Mac computer you can export the project from your phone and open it up on a Mac to complete the edit. Otherwise if you only have an iPhone you may need to look at an alternate app.
@@Touchtechnologyreview Thanks for your explanation, I have downloaded INSHOT and it's ok now.
Please explain, How to add multiple music without cutting the added one?
You can add up to two audio tracks in addition to the audio on your main video track. To get two tracks of audio tap on the first one and then tap on the foreground sub menu option in the bottom menu. The audio track now becomes a foreground element which means you can now tap on the plus icon and add one more background track of audio.
Touch Technology Review Thank you
