As much as I would like to say Kara is the best choice, I think the main problem with her and the other kryptonians, is that they don't really have a connection with the city of Metropolis itself. They're connected to Superman.
Which is why I think Steel is the clear choice. Or Guardian. Or even, Luthor mirroring Superior Spider-Man.

12:10 Steel may not be able to defend Doomsday, but we know he’d definitely try. Man got a whole building dropped on him, without his suit, proceeded to get out of said rubble, and was ready to square up with Doomsday with not but the clothes on his back.

I’d go with Kara as my first choice. In recent Superman comics, she acts as the Dick Grayson of the super family like the second in command. You’d think it’d be Jon since he’s the second Superman but I think his inexperience is holding him back like you said.
Kara is Clark’s first legacy character, she’s the member of the family that’s been around the longest after Clark so she has the most experience, and she has the most consistent feats.

Honestly, I can see a more Gotham Knights/ Batman Incorporated take on who Superman would leave to watch metropolis and or the world in his absence (ie everyone would work in tandem/in conjunction with the league to make sure everything goes right).

For this video, I completely agree.
My only note is that presumably Jon is already aged up to 17, last I heard, so I don’t know that I would want to timeskip him any further.
For my own list I think I might have Chris Kent in the mix, but that might come more from wishing they’d bring him back in general. Of course ideally the would retcon and overwrite the current Lor-Zod brat, but an acceptable alternative would be that Chris is a different son of Dru-Zod, maybe even have a different mother, like Faora rather than Ursa. What would be really great is if Chris' given name was Van-Zod, and his whole first arc happened before the Black Mercy story, and in Superman’s fantasy world, just like Loana was a mash-up of Lois and Lana, Van-El’s face was based on Chris Kent’s. I’m thinking this would all still be before the birth of Jon, of course.
The one thing about calling him Van-Zod is that it is one letter away from the unrelated Val-Zod and could potentially make all that more confusing than it already is.
But anyway, it’s just a thought.

You pick the right choice New 52 show more feats for his To Ability I just wish the writers stop for getting that he has it and that it's not a weak power if you used it enough and tap more into that power he may one-day be able to warp reality but thats probably not gonna happen since DC don't care about OG Superboy

You know, I’m just saying, if Superboy took some martial arts lessons from Batman, he could be an even greater forced to be reckoned with. Imagine him having the same training the Robbins went through but then having the super strength on top of it.
Or maybe he could take lessons from Wonderwall as well since she has been stated to be an even better fighter than Batman

You left out the main man Clark in there dude. He ain't as good at it as Diana and Bruce but he knows how to fight as well, due to experience and also additional training by both Bats and Wonderwall. He has also spent prolonged periods of time depowered on several occasions, and proved himself to be crafty and cunning enough to fight pragmatically.
Also as the guy whose Jon inherited his powers from Clark is able to teach the young man the do's and don't's in being Superman.

I think Kara zor-el with Steel in a mentoring role/keeping her in check somewhat like Alfred is to Batman.
    For instance:
Zod or H'el are attacking metropolis and causing widespread damage. Kara is going all out and creating some collateral damage along the way. Steel is there as support but is helping minimize casualties. At one point, the enemy is trying to flee and Kara is about to follow. Steel orders her to stand down and help the civilians in the area. She refuses stating that the honor of the house of El is on the line and she's desperate to fill Kal-Els shoes. After he Steel confronts her about it. Maybe they fight with her pinning him down and she says something along the lines of "You've been working so hard to measure up to Kal-Els legacy you forgot about the measuring up to Clark's. He vowed to protect Metropolis and earth. It's time you do the same."

I like the group and agree with Connor. I was a bit surprised with Steel being your last choice. I remember a few comics with him and I just thought he was sooooo cool, so maybe I'm a bit bias. I love characters in suits so maybe that's why he'd be a lot higher on my list. Him being human (as you mentioned) is his weakness, but I think it could also be his strength. He'd be willing to die to protect his home world. And hey, let's give him some plot armour so he can defend against these galactic villains!

Wonder woman: Jon Kent has the potential to be the greatest superhero that the world has ever seen.
Jon Kent: Hugs fascist dictator injustice superman rather than fight him, asks his dad why he doesn't "do more" and believes that he shouldn't do more or else he'll end up like injustice superman.
    Yeah, I'm not seeing it.

The end of that issue answered the question Jon had about Clark.
Clark doesn't do more than stopping the villains for the same reason Bruce doesn't. Eliminating them is too easy...so he realizes his approach must be different by actively doing things the way Diana used to and is something that she's long since forgotten how to.
Also...hello? Giving the guy a hug from "the ghost" of his son could have actually fixed Injustice Superman and got him to stand trial, if Cyborg-49 and Wonder Woman-49 wouldn't have been telling him to ignore Jon...because Jon is the one thing he actually wants.
Next: Didn't you see in the opening issue of Infinite Frontier that Jon stopped Neutron by giving him a hug? That is a very golden age Diana thing to do. Jon has seen all three do what they do, and Diana's golden age methods are what are seriously needed right now.
Someone who helps friend and foe alike and rarely raises their fists.

@@timepilotcluefinder94 "Clark doesn't do more than stopping the villains for the same reason Bruce doesn't."
That's not what do more means. And don't compare clark to bruce. Clark is a good person, bruce is an authoritarian psychopath who picks and chooses who he "saves"
"Also...hello? Giving the guy a hug from "the ghost" of his son could have actually fixed Injustice Superman and got him to stand trial"
Because that's how you fight fascists apparently, not with anarchism or dismantling the status quo that allowed for fascism, but with hugs. Yeah, whoever wrote Jon like this is clearly a dumb liberal, especially compared to his socialist father.
"Didn't you see in the opening issue of Infinite Frontier that Jon stopped Neutron by giving him a hug?"
You can't solve every problem by hugging it. You can't stop systemic oppression by hugging it, you can't stop ecocide by hugging it, you can't cure cancer by hugging it, you can't solve homelessnes with hugs. Those problems require challenging the status quo and threatening the hierarchies that exist within our society.
"That is a very golden age Diana thing to do."
      This isn't the golden age.
"Someone who helps friend and foe alike and rarely raises their fists."
So Jon's going to help darkseid by hugging him? Gee, what could go wrong?

Anyone of the Kryptonians can protect Metropolis on the daily if Clark was dead, but if Doomsday or Darkseid was to invade, I feel like they all are a little to green to deal with a problem of that magnitude, and that's when Martian Manhunter or Icon would have to step in.

If Superman got to choose, I think he’d actually pick Martian Manhunter to watch over Metropolis.
I think he only trusts Dianna more than J’onn. Plus he’d value J’onn as a mentor for his son to eventually take up the mantle.

Literally any of them. Superman needs to leave metropolis anyway because he's too trapped in this tiny city. His stories are too confined to this place. He's supposed to be a global Hero.
