I don't remember commending in this video, but: If the whole point is to check the level removing that plug at 7:14, why not add the fluid through the same hole? Turn the car, warm then add if you need more y the same hole. You don't even have to remove anything from underhook. Drain and add. turn on, warm, check level plug: Nothing come out, then add more fluid. SO EASY>
You can't add the transmission fluid through the drain hole it would pour right out because the engine is not running . Also you don't want to start the engine with no fluid in the transmission it would damage it.
When refilling these transmissions, remove one of the oil cooler lines. This will allow the air out of the transmission as you fill it. Otherwise it will keep backing up in the fill point and go everywhere. Remember to reconnect the hose after, or you’ll have a real mess to clear up.
This is the comment i was looking for cause i do these at my shop all the time but the still have that problem.. i usually leave frint plug out and put my finger over as i let air slightly out as they poor in.. but deff gonna try this next time i service one in shop..
Great video and timely one. I have a 2015 Hyundai Sonata slight damaged front underbody. Replaced radiator, still leaking coolant. Turns out the transmission oil pan cover and the water valve oil cooler was damaged leaking coolant and transmission fluid and needed to be replaced
That's not the fill plug. It's a 24 mm at the back on the top that's a breather port and it will take you ages to fill through that. Fill with a hook and hose from the back
@@motorcarnutthat's not the fill plug on the Hyundai 6-speed transmission. The fill plug is at the back of the transmission on the top and you fill it with a hook and hose and pump that's a breather port The fill point is a 24 mm plug as well just like the drain plug but it's on top at the back
Outstanding, thanks for sharing - planning to do here soon - only thing I'd add is to start with the trans cold (i.e. parked overnight) and the new fluid at the same temp - that way their density is the same, thus their volume - if one is warmer, it will have greater volume due to expansion - also, if your concrete floor has a slope like mine, just place a carpenter level on the rocker panel of the car below the side doors and it will tell you which end to raise on your stands until level - cheers!
Whatever vehicle you have you go by , as a rule of thumb, whatever you take out you put back in then top off per your particular vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations as stated in the video. It helps a lot when people watch the whole video.

Good video. I just use the front overflow port as the proper level for the tranny. I don’t know why they have the plastic cap on top for the fill port. Dealers use the front port when filling. Thanks, Steven B.

2010 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.5l when I allow it to drain until a small trickle it shifts bad high high revs but when I add 8 oz extra so it’s not a trickle and a thick stream it shifts a lot better any idea why
You have to make sure the transmission is at the proper temperature first. And that you measure what you took out of the transmission and put that back in and start there.

Sounds like the transmission is going bad unless the transmission fluid is low or dirty. Did you try to check fluid level and condition? If not try it first.

It’s the power shift transmission is doesn’t have a pan be does use a special Motorcraft dual clutch fluid that should be replaced just like any other transmission.

@ClearerVisionz Sounds like someone is trying to get you to buy a unnecessary flush. Regular fluid changes is all that needed. Sealed transmissions are the same as any other just don’t have a dip stick.

Can you change the fluid when the trans is hot as long as you fill between 122-144 temp? I changed the fluid runs great but took about 30 minutes to reach 122 temp. I would like to drain and fill again is it okay to drive to warm up the trans to get to say 130 degrees? Thank you in advance.

You run through the gears after you have refilled it and sealed everything up then you can check it but if you measured what you've taken out and put that exact same amount and that should be no problem my understanding

These new vehicles are nothing but garbage. Plastic fill plug and no dipstick. The young generation of people is beyond lazy and won't even pop the hood to maintenance a vehicle, that is why nothing is greaseable or has dipsticks. The price of modern junk is atrocious as well.
I just filled the wifes transmission last night it was such a pain in the dick, the top fill port kept having an air bubble and was just getting transmission fluid everywhere, Pointless to fill from the top. I will treat it like my B9 Audi S4 just fill from side port with the engine running, just fill with my ATF Filler bottle. 😑💀It took me 30 minutes to out a little over 3 qt’s back in from the top, such ass
You can’t just pour it all in at once, slow and steady gets the job done! Never have any problems doing it like that. Did about 30 vehicles since I made that video.
Mine had real brown fluid and only like less than half a quart 🤣🤣 the 1 2 3 gear were slipping . I bought it as is . Hopefully they didn’t drive it far 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
@@motorcarnut I think the filter is behind the valve body, almost in the middle of the transmission. Basically you have to dissemble the transmission to get access.

Say the car were running and almost hot, I'm thinking you could still add fluid through the check plug until it drains out.
There is a video on TH-cam where they fill the transmission fluid through that side plug on a 2020 Cadenza, never opened the top fill port

The level off oil , in manual says to be taken with the engine on … if u take the level with engine off it will be a diference of 800 ml of oil

Use the 24mm metal drain plug if it’s easier.

Just learned Monday, that Mt 2016 Ford Focus has a Dry Dual Clutch, and does not have Transmission Fluid. And, it's a $3,000 - $4,000 Repair

Buy extra fluid do 2 or 3 drain and fills in between short drives will get most all old fluid out

Can be many reasons, make sure level is correct as well as fluid condition.
I used AMSOIL signature. No issues after 50k miles ago
Amsoil is a good brand but still has to be replaced as if we’re a Walmart brand. Contamination is the reason for the change just like engine oil.

That little plastic removable check cap scares me, if that ever cracked or popped out youd lose all your fluid,, bye transmission

These new vehicles are nothing but garbage. Plastic fill plug and no dipstick. The young generation of people is beyond lazy and won't even pop the hood to maintenance a vehicle, that is why nothing is greaseable or has dipsticks. The price of modern junk is atrocious as well.

I just filled the wifes transmission last night it was such a pain in the dick, the top fill port kept having an air bubble and was just getting transmission fluid everywhere, Pointless to fill from the top. I will treat it like my B9 Audi S4 just fill from side port with the engine running, just fill with my ATF Filler bottle. 😑💀It took me 30 minutes to out a little over 3 qt’s back in from the top, such ass
You can’t just pour it all in at once, slow and steady gets the job done! Never have any problems doing it like that. Did about 30 vehicles since I made that video.
Remove one of the oil cooler lines to let the air out as you fill it.
Get a 1 or 2 gallon garden pump sprayer, remove handle fill with fluid and shove hose in fill hole, I do it all the time😂
Mine had real brown fluid and only like less than half a quart 🤣🤣 the 1 2 3 gear were slipping . I bought it as is . Hopefully they didn’t drive it far 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

The pan has to be dropped to replace it. Have other videos on that.
@@motorcarnut I think the filter is behind the valve body, almost in the middle of the transmission. Basically you have to dissemble the transmission to get access.
