    Just for the people who don't know, birds can not feel/taste spicy things!

    • @Pixiewolf
      @Pixiewolf 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Extra Gum They can! ^^ it actually attracts or encourages some of them to accept new foods or mashes. Though, this is only if they decide to try it... but for mine it worked! A little goes a long way! Don’t put too much of it. And by spice I just mean a little bit of freeze dried chili peppers cooked for 18-20 minutes in some grain based mash ^^

    • @caryllemartina7488
      @caryllemartina7488 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Im surprised.....

    • @boogerrrrr
      @boogerrrrr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They can't feel spicy because spice from peppers is caused by capsaicin. Capsaicin latches on to our heat/burning receptors because of their shape, which are exposed in our mouths. When they latch on, they make you feel spice. Birds' burn receptors are shaped differently, so they're not activated by capsaicin, and therefore they don't feel spice

      @d.e.b.b5788 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      FWIW, when you get a new bird, try to get them to eat what you eat; often, you can inspire this by letting them sit on your shoulder while you eat, and they will probably get interested in it and want some (this may take a while, you can encourage this by keeping their own food bowls empty for an hour or two before meals so that they are hungry). Get a book about your type of bird and see what they SHOULDN'T eat. Everything else is usually ok. This will save you tremendous money on bird food; you just give them some of your meal whenever you eat. Just make sure that you remove any freshly made stuff before it will spoil. I only leave snack type things in the cage when I'm not going to be home. Otherwise, just pellets, and at mealtimes, whatever I'm eating. Every parrot I've met likes italian foods with some type of red sauce. Maybe it's the color. The bigger birds seem to like ziti or some other large noodle that they can pick up. Little guys are fine with spaghetti; but if a big bird gets spaghetti, sometimes they like to play with it too much and wind up spraying it all over the room.
