Il trovatore ('The Troubadour') is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto largely written by Salvadore Cammarano, based on the play El trovador (1836) by Antonio García Gutiérrez. The premiere took place at the Teatro Apollo in Rome on 19 January 1853.

Per quante volte io abbia ascoltato e guardato quest’opera nn mi stanco mai , ogni volta sono gioia ed emozione che si rinnovano… nn si può negare che, al di là del cast impareggiabile, nelle opere in cui compare Franco Corelli tutte le emozioni possibili, la magnificenza della voce e dell’interpretazione, sono lí sempre pronte a catturarti, a stringerti il cuore e a trasportarti nel sogno. Ich habe diese Aufführung heute zum ersten Mal gehört. Mein Kompliment, ein ganz außergewöhnlicher Trovatore. Phantastische Stimmen, Stella wirklich gut, Cossotto in einer ihrer Paraderollen, einzigartig, Bastianini war wirklich die Nummer eins als Bariton und ist leider viel zu früh von uns gegangen. Franco als Manrico einfach genial. Ich dachte immer, Bergonzi sei der beste Manrico - ich sah ihn in der Arena mit Cappuccilli und Lazarini - , eine absolute Weltklasse-Aufführung, aber Franco lebte den Manrico stimmlich noch viel besser. Leider gibt es keinen Tenor mehr, wie Corelli war. Die Oper ist viel ärmer geworden.
