Por los fragmentos de Otello que conservamos cantados por Corelli, es muy triste que no llegara a cantar el papel... Habría sido increíble. Este duetto no es de lo mejor, hay un Esultate, grabado cuando era muy joven, asombroso, así como otras partes, y también tiene alguna otra versión de este fragmento en la que está más correcto. Con un director bueno creo que se habría podido llevar a todos los demás de calle. Pero hay que conformarse con lo que tenemos.

Agreed, but the exception was Del Monaco, who started singing Otello at age 35. Domingo, although in my opnion not a formidable Otello debuted in the role at the Met in 1979 at age 38. I think Corelli would have been a fine Otello, but here at age 52 we can hear his voice is stressed with an unsteady vocal line. but still wonderful
Respondiendo a un comentarista anterior diré que Corelli no representó in vivo en Teatro la Ópera de Otello,quizá debido a la coincidencia con Mario del Mónaco (el mejor Otello que hubo),y como eran muy amigos,no rivales,nunca quiso Corelli competir con Mario en este rollo.

¡What a pitty! Both of them are no more in their prime, but some years early they could have been the best Otello and best Desdemona. For example, Corelli doesn´t have his ample fiato and consistent vibrato that often had. Same to Tebaldi. Best regards,

He didn't sing the role and neither did spinto Tucker or in fact Spinto Caruso, all 3 could have but as Richard Tucker told me (I knew him very well) "I could sure enough sing it, but it would in the long run hurt my voice", I'm sure Corelli thought the same way about it and so did Caruso, all 3 men had the power for it, I've heard Tucker many times in house and also Corelli and I think Franco would have been a great Otello had he done it, BTW I saw Del Monaco sing it in Italy when I was 19 years old in 1959 and in house, he was a sensational Otello and I've heard many more since 1959 but for me MDM's was #1 in house and better then his recording of it on London label LP's.

Otello,per antonomasia, é MDM...non si discute!
I love Corelli but I do wonder on the basis of what I heard here how suitable he would have proved in the entire role. OK, it’s a recital but still he over powers the music to a detrimental degree at least in this duet. Tebaldi treats the music better but is no longer in optimum form here, IMO.
This is a strange comment. This was likely not a full orchestra, but Otello is suppose to sound strong and overpowering.
