This engine is going into the next 4Runner and I'm here for it. 400 lbs/ft of torque? Load her up with 35" wheels, a RTT and whatever else you want. You won't get great gas mileage but unbelievable torque off the line and when you need it. Thank you Toyota. -- signed 2026 4Runner ORP buyer.

Yes and no. Crown had been stuck with the same price tag for over 20 years because of high fleet demands in Japan, and yen never really inflated for 30 years. Price was comparable with E-Class or 5-Series back in early 00’s but because Toyota couldn’t increase the price due to taxi and police car being their biggest customer, VW Arteon or Citroën C5X, Peugeot 508 are more realistic competitors in 2022. And that’s the main reason why Toyota divided the Crown into 4 different models in Japan.

The Toyota Crown is a good value compared to its main competitor, the Acura TLX Type S. The Crown is in the similar price range, but it has 50 lb more torque, it also has 10 better city mpg. I would buy it over the TLX, if I was shopping for a premium full size sedan.

@12:55 YIKES!!!! So I had a deposit on a 2023 Outback Wilderness. Now, the STARLINK comes with remote locking and unlocking, it tracks my trips, and all these other things I don't want or need pushed on me $ as features; my Onyx already would EMAIL me every time I'd air down my tires, which in California, was A LOT (the reason I got the car... I'm a single man not a family)... It would email my service advisor about my wiper fluid being low. The auto start stop.... having that thing kick on and off like I'm stalling for 45 minutes per gas tank to save a whopping 0.244 gallons of 87 gas per tank. Having a HU that isn't standard double DINN that is apparently unfixable by HK and Subaru. Then, I went to test drive a Bronco Sport (ugh), and when I parked it back at the dealer and turned the car off - it very harshly dinged multiple times and displayed a car seat in the back seat telling me to check for my children. Guess what? I can't have children.✂ Apparently that's a federal reg now? All of this and more was exhausting and annoying. Now this thing barks at you if you look off the road? This is too much. I pulled the deposit on my GB OBW last week and bought a 2013 Blue WRX Wagon that needs a new block and I'm going to do a full build because its simple. I'm confident this vehicle will hold, and raise in value in the coming decade as I drive it into the electric era as other people start to realize none of these are features, but hassles - and want to go back to their roots. Or maybe I'm turning 30 and having a crisis. Thanks for reading my TED Talk.

It seems like a really impressive drive that would be very exciting for enthusiasts with some means, and the interior is actually well designed and appointed, but at that price point, for a Toyota, it has to have prestige, iconic looks to match, and, boy howdy, is it lacking in that department.

Toyota Crown was sold in the states until 1974 when it then became Corona and then the Cressida which then became the Avalon in the late 1980’s. 2023 Toyota has just gone full circle back to the Crown. The only way you don’t know the Crown name is to have been born in the 80’s-90’s+.

    1. 2012 Corolla has 5.8 in. of ground clearance, as well.
    2. The length of the car is the only deal breaker. If they have a product with that powertrain but shorter than 190 in. Ideally Corolla length.
    3. If shorter, maybe suggest less money, too.

Ryan, How does the RAISED seating position of the new Crown compare with the seating position of a Camry, Accord, Taurus or Impala from a decade or so ago? I think we sometimes forget how low and 'swoopy' mainstream sedans have become in their last few iterations. In a car aimed at providing maximum comfort, a return to traditional HEADROOM levels would have been just as welcome. Speaking of traditional sedans, the last Ford Crown Victoria weighed around 250 lbs less than this Hybrid Max🤨

    • @drivingsports

Noting the Crown Vic, when I asked my wife what she thought of the name of the "Crown" she asked if it was a new Crown Vic. Toyota has an uphill battle with the name. Though you are right, compared to body-on-frame sedans of yesterday the seating in the Crown is pretty much on-par.

I think personally, it's rather disappointing. The Crown had always been a RWD entry luxury sedan. This doesn't feel like it.

@@piku3918 Zapping TH-cam spam is the closest thing I do to playing a video game. Why TH-cam can't do to themselves remains a mystery.

That is one ugly front end. The Crown name is a bad one too. I am older, but it reminds me of the early Crown models that were slow and had bad suspensions.

Read that Toyota is going to be making buyers pay a subscription to have certain features on there cars. Willing to bet that one of those features is remote start through your phone. So no matter how much it costs... they're going to keep taking money from you.
