A good start for any build, makes the rest of the game pretty easy. You can go back to Felkin later to buy more spells, and the chime you get from killing Licia is pretty good for hexes.
Dark Souls II: The game where you can get to level 40 by beating one merchant to death, punching another off of a tower, and getting a massive soldier with a halberd to kill himself not once, but TWICE. Just one of the many things that makes this game amazing.
+tigerheart6 The armour he received increased soul yield, so he earned enough souls to level up enough for hexes. He killed the other one to get the lockstone, which gives quick entry to the hexman. Killing her isn't exactly necessary, though, but you will have to spend another 2000 souls to get to hexman.
you normally should just play and test things. kinda the point of souls games. that said seems like most people do walkthrough stuff, and the game can stump people. The man that sells the hex's in that cave requires you to have a certain amount of FTH & INT . The exact number escapes me, but without the proper stats, or items, etc. There are SEVERAL npc's that won't talk to you. Like the scorpion dude for example.
I dodged every fucking big knight in the hopes of going Through the mist and saw a boss fight I pissed my pant.but to mus surprise he killed himself, first try that dargonrider
Not sure if you're still curious about that, But he doesn't give you items until you have 20 INT & 20 FAI (could be 15, but I'm pretty sure it's 20 of each)
Omg, what the F?! I just started playing this game doing a "normal" str build and I thought I was pretty though for such a "short time" aka 5 hours in.. When you lured the boss into the water just made me drop my jaw cause I battled that dude too many times and was so proud when I finally beat him xD
Caesura It does, I've done it several times in SoTFS. Although I know the timing may be a bit different, so instead of instantly falling off he slowly slides off.
you can also go in, wait as far on the left edge as you can.... he will walk to you and then do his thrust attack... dodge it to the right and then go onto the mainplattform as far left as you can so that there is much open space between you two... he will then try to walk towards you again and fall of. Its much saver than the one in the video... on the one in the video you are save dead when you fail. the other one lets you proceed the battle so that you can try fighting him normally when you fail to bug.....
Just tried this on SotFS and it works. Took a couple of attempts to make the Dragon Rider fall. I do suggest that after you beat him the first time you go back to Majula and level up so if you fail the second time you don't lose your souls. They also moved the placement of the praying npc so you have to punch her to the next opening first to push her off . Otherwise she will just fall downstairs and come back up to wreck your shit.
Tip : kill the old knight with sublime bone dust both the times that way you can get 2 of them right away, and also lower the bridge to old dragon slayer. possibly try to beat orenstien on base difficulty with the gold pine resin you get at starting area near the ogre as it becomes a living nightmare to get to him in +1 difficulty and you get more souls and beat him before you cheese dragonrider as it has no risk of losing souls of dragonrider.
+michael arellano Well, players will typically raise the platforms to make the traditional fight easier, but that makes baiting him off the ledge more difficult. You should be able to do it by imitating what this guy did in the video, just make sure to wait for him to walk towards that small bridge at the entrance and roll past him without falling into the water yourself. :P
+michael arellano 5 steps, start running forward as soon as he starts to take his 6th step. That's how i got it to work 100% of the time, i even think i heard one of the speedrunners actually count it out.
Good guide, completed the full walkthrough in 12 minutes! Failed first attempt getting the Dragonrider to fall in NG, but went to bridge on other side of room and tried again, he fell straight in that time and no problems in NG+. Make sure to punch Licia out of window on left of where she is kneeling, otherwise she lands on steps and comes back! Not using full SoFS DLC, only have DS2 and Crown of Sunken King DLC.

+Luciferarrow shoot them with soul arrow and finish them off with your dagger, take your time and stay at range, attacking one enemy at a time. look up how to get the fire longsword, very useful if you have a lot of int
@@Luciferarrow It's also been two years, so I'm sure you've done the git gud maneuver, but for any new players in 2019 who find this vid and view the comments I'll leave this as well. There *is* a more powerful soul arrow down in the ballista room near Pate.
Dark Orb's one of the best PvE spells in the game. Everything else either has few casts (miracles, pyromancy, soul spear) or has had its damage neutered (most sorcery). If you upgrade the sunset staff and pick up more dark orb casts when you can, it will absolutely carry you through the game with ease and even NG+ and beyond. For those (very) few spots where you might have trouble, you're already set up to use sorcery and miracles so you just have to find and attune the spells.
Lion Reichelt Not sure what would be the cause there. If you have high int & faith (20/20 is good, 30/30 is better), and a sunset staff +5, it should do a really nice amount of damage for how fast it is and how many casts it has, apart from some enemies with particularly high dark resist. In NG+ it may not one-shot stuff, but you can easily toss 2-3 at an enemy, especially given that it staggers most things. You can buy it three times too so you can have 60+ casts by the end of a playthrough. Just checked on my high level character (balanced int/faith). Dark orb with a dark sunset staff +5 does somewhat less damage than a great heavy soul arrow using a magic staff of wisdom +5, and about the same damage as a lightning spear using a lightning dragon chime +5. It's got a speed advantage on both of those, and has about double the casts of GHSA and several times what you get of lightning spear.
Lion Reichelt I checked it out again (just because I like hucking spells at things!) using the black witch's staff (same modifiers for everything). Dark Orb does the same damage (against basic hollow jerks who I'm pretty sure have no damage resistance) and has the same cast number as Heavy Soul Arrow. The main differences are that HSA will travel farther, but Dark Orb casts noticeably faster, and is larger (so you can hit stuff easier.) The dark sunset staff +5 also has the strongest modifier of any casting tool in the game, which is pretty significant considering the magic and lightning equivalents have really high requirements and are really late-game, in the dragon shrine and Pilgrims of Dark covenant respectively. I guess what I'm saying is it's kind of a middle-of-the-road spell at face value, but it's got a lot of little things going for it that add up, and few of the downsides that hurt other spells (low range is the only real problem with it). Also, one thing to watch out for if you're comparing spell damage is that spells can get headshots, and get a pretty significant bonus from it. Tall staves like the sunset staff make this quite a bit more common since the spell will usually be angled downward.
This still works everybody, don't worry about the SOTFS update, the Heide Knights WILL NOT aggro you after using a bonfire ascetic at the first Heide's Tower Bonfire. Only difference is hexes hit for a good deal less, but this is still a great way to start the game regardless of build.
paul delgado i did it on accident once i went in saw the arena and went oh shit without moving the boss slowly creeping up on me i thought he'd block my only way of getting on the small circle so i ran past him and this happened i laughed my ass off
still works fine, you have to lure the dragonrider closer to the entrance to make him drop after a second swing, souls are enough even without killing the shopkeeper in majula
Good tip but this makes the Ring of Binding very difficult to obtain by NG+ the Heide's Tower of Flame area. Before burning the Bonfire Ascetic at 5:25 should first head for Cathedral Blue's entrance to obtain the Ring of Binding from the corpse. Or even kill the boss inside first.
I finally got her, and everything went perfectly until I was followed by one of the Old Knight's into the doorway with the mist for the dragonrider... Anyway, it's late... Gonna give it a go again tomorrow...
Ik it's been a years but you can just leave that to when you reach the end-game if your level is a problem,or not because that area isn't even that hard
@@christophercollins3632 I like that you came back 8 months later, to make a secondary reply to a comment over a year old, that was older than the one im replying to now in the initial.
This is still very doable, I bought Sotfs for PS4 just today and I used this method and it worked, of course I died three times trying to do this but it's very much worth it.
InAshesWeStand You have to have the Rotunda Lockstone, which you get from killing Licia. If you just want to get in to the Huntsman's Copse you can exhaust all her dialogue with the "talk" option and she will move to the location at 8:19. You have to pay her to get through though, which is why I chose to kill her in this method.
Xephyr when you exhaust her dialogue and use her stone later in the game she tries killig you , she uses lightning spear so careful if you have no armor it can one shotu
Killing the merchant seems like a waste of time, since you end up with the hexer gear anyway... Also, did you speed up the video? Looks like there's some Benny Hill shit going on...
I keep getting one shotted by one of the knights and losing all my souls on the way to kill the boss the second time, its supremely frustrating. Their hit box is HUGE it hard to dodge around them
+Kouska Chikara typically guides like this are not aimed at someone doing their first playthrough, and you really shouldn't follow them on your first playthrough. This is more for someone just looking to quickly set up a second character, imo. Killing NPCs in general means you'll miss out on something or another. In the case of Maughlin, you're basically missing out on all the boss armors he sells and a set he gives for free, for like 10k souls or something trivial like that. It's a nice early game boost but not worth it in the long run if you care about those armor sets at all.
His armor set gives more souls per kill. I'm pretty sure you can get his set later on as well as other sets and rings that do the same without killing him. I do not endorse killing NPCs. Makes you far more invadable online, limits your ability to obtain items and it's murder. Well. The last point is moot, but it is, even when you're out murdering everything in the countryside. At least these people. Still have a functioning soul of their own.
As a warning to new players, *Because I know tons of Hexer mains who aren't new will have a field day with this* Starting with hexes in no way helps you improve. Hexes are a football helmet with extra padding, with training wheels and an electric wheelchair. Trust me, using them is not a challenge nor is it going to help your gameplay spike upwards. I can solo the game at the highest NG cycles through use of careful positioning, timing, tactics, a couple miracles and my trusty array of curved swords and whatever else catches my fancy, and fashion souls armor. Your gear and combat choice mean a lot less if you are not proficient on your own without all the accoutrement. Oneshotting people with climax and resonant soul != skill. I say that coming off of my no death no bonfire run with two new rings, so trust me, newer players, don't cheese your way to victory at the beginning when your learning means the most.
Ms Tsvanni Pretty sure the "football helmet with extra padding, with training wheels and an electric wheelchair." is more appropriately applied to havel mages/ havel UGS rather than a bog standard 'op' hex build early game. Hex is fucking weak either way anyways, soon they realise that they get smashed by anything with the tiniest bit of dark resist.
Ms Tsvanni So another "spells = no skill" comments, as someone who used a pure caster build I can assure that being good with spells is really, really hard you have low health and almost no armor and to win you have to be really good with dodging/timing your spells, not to mention that PvP is almost all about combos, sure some people will not know how to dodge a climax or soul spear, but those who do will put a good fight, and I can assure guarding behind a shield and spamming parries is no more skillfull than using spells
Lexender Casters are only OP for PvE for PvP i'd say melee users are more OP. If you have ANY roll timing ability with a good high agility for more s fighting spell casters is nothing, my melee user can just walk up to you with his rebel's greatshield and block at least most of whatever you throw at me and just give you a good poke with my grand lance or a few good swings of my claymore. And thats a gimped to fuck faith build with melee abilities. I digress fighting mages in PvP is as simple as knowing how to roll and having an appropriate shield for blocking. Melee is a whole different can of worms, you have people with big weapons that 1 or two shot you, fast guys that need a lot of hits to kill you but good luck hitting them, or people in between. Being a mage demands you know how to roll to avoid death cause you have no HP or defense, particularly for those idiot hexers who use the ring that takes HP to boost the power of your hexes (THATS NOT WORTH IT GUYS) while melee you can have decent armor and what would normally one shot a mage, a melee character can possibly tank two or three times. Mages also have to know how to time attacks and combo well while melee users have to be very godo with stamina management and parrying. This goes doubly so for strength builds making use of big weapons. Super armor doesn't protect you from damage, backstabs, ripostes, or losing stamina. In short mages equal easy PvE but hard PvP, melee equals hard PvE but easier PvP. Now the dumbest thing in these games is when invaders bitch that you use estus when they fucking invade you as if were supposed to allow them to kill us. Like were obligated to do so and it is some how dishonorable to do so.
So dumb, don't do this. Save your bonfire ascetic for the skeleton lords and get a 55% cast speed ring instead making all your spells better. the guy gives you the hexers hood and the staff when your stats are 20 faith and 20 intellect. And you get better items later anyways (good gear early on tho).
thank you for the video, before burning ascetic, I would invest one point into str so you can one hand the mace, and go kill oristien. summon the npc outside the dragonrider and run like hell to the next boss gate.
you teach to use a bonefire ascetic to new players and ruin all theyr game , i know you did this video with the propose to help , but i think willl hurt more then helps because they dont know that they are putting that zone in new game plus one.
SlynchThePuppy its the first or second area a new player will go , its hard for many to remenber that but it is , i see many many players going there even before going forest...
gorytarrafa If they do it the way the video showed them already have the bonfire to get to no mans wharf. So I wouldnt worry about it ruining their playthrough.
SlynchThePuppy a good way to do that its to make the bonefire ascetic in things betwixt , but its a lot harder to kill those 2 red phantoms , but after that its super easy you can farm 600 souls in each guy and even get the falcon set for free , imade that and was pretty nice.
I very much doubt you did. That part of the level is riddled with high-level white knights that can 2-shot you and kill you easily. The designers of the game intentionally put them there making it impossible to do this run. They even moved the rings to other parts of the map to chests that are guarded by White Knights. So no; it is *NOT* possible in the new update.
MechaAkuma Only played a little bit of the sotfs update as I don't own it myself, but I did this run just as easily as in this video. The Heide knights (white knights as you call them) doesn't seem to be agressive until you attack an enemy in the area, which I never do in this run. So maybe git gud? (Just kidding, I love you)
MechaAkuma I'm well aware that when you kill Dragonrider that the Heide Knights will start to roam the area. However, when you use the bonfire ascetic, Dragonrider returns and the Heide Knights sit back down where they originally were. Even if the Heide Knights were active after using the bonfire aesthetic you could easily outrun them and dodge their attacks. Also, considering how you don't know the names of the enemies or who made DSII, I'd assume that you don't know much about the game. The run is incredibly possible and I could record and upload the run for you if you don't believe me.
We'll first thing those who ask why he had equipment it's because he had the pre-order dlc or the special edition(vanilla d2).Every form of magic got nerfed after this video, killing maughlin for the set won't net you that much souls so it's a waste killing the praying woman it's also a waste, past mid game one whill acquire a object called crushed eye orb with this we will invade her and after killing her we'll be awarded with a aoe healing miracle really useful for co-op and for the ivory king dlc.I see comments talking of how they got reckt by the sentinels, fromsoft doesn't tell you that because you have access to that are it doesn't mean that you have to start there you can skip the sentinels by getting the key that is near one of the bonfires that key opens a door past the wall patch with wood in one room use a lock stone and behind a wall there will be a elevator cage this way it's possible to get to the lost sinner, tho you will be forced to fight with a light torch.I suggest not even touching this area bosses theire the second hardest pre-shrine of winter instead go to the lost hunts man copse or drop in the majula pit if you get holy water you can cheese the rat boss after getting the fragrant branch un petrifie the statue before majula.
I realise now after doing this to finally do a hex build That hexes got nerfed and was very much about the same level as starting as sorcerer but more work
After failing to knock dragonrider off the edge (the first time) i then proceeded to beat him down slowly with the mace. That fight is way more dissapointing than I first remember it
Here is a tip for starters DON'T burn the bonfire ascetic before you get the Ring of Binding. If you didn't want the Ring of Binding in the first place or you wan't to try killing some of the old knights to lower the bridge while on bonfire intensity+2 as a challenge or whatever then fine by me but trying to kill the old knights that nearly one shot you and trying to get rid of those damn red phantoms can be a little overwhelming while attempting to lower the bridge to get that ring near the beginning of the game.
If people use the bridge as you say, the room with Dragonslayer rotates and the little bridge you use to make him fall ends up closed. So basically you have to make the entire fight because you can't make him fall. The ring is useful, but it's neccesary to point out what I've said.

i went in saw the arena and went oh shit without moving the boss slowly creeping up on me
i thought he'd block my only way of getting on the small circle so i ran past him and this happened i laughed my ass off
Fabian MarTime . Why so you can cheese through the whole game like the little bitch you are!!! Fucking sickening!
The big dude you make fall off doesnt respawn again for me once i made him fall the first time
It's now 2019, how the sound quality has degraded over time
Thanks for armour tip. Knew the rest! All the better to feed my low level invader supplies!
i got killed by the red phantom twice in a row and lost all my souls goddamn it.
still works fine, you have to lure the dragonrider closer to the entrance to make him drop after a second swing, souls are enough even without killing the shopkeeper in majula
Have fun getting to Ornstein.
I can't seem to angle my punches on the lady -.-
I finally got her, and everything went perfectly until I was followed by one of the Old Knight's into the doorway with the mist for the dragonrider... Anyway, it's late... Gonna give it a go again tomorrow...

@@CPalanysamy She's a real B. anyways. She tries to kill you multiple times. A punch to the face is nothing.
just bought this game and I’m having so much trouble. Bout to try this lol
Did you do it?
More like overpowered FOR ten minutes
5:03 - That little whistle as she fell down killed me

+DrunkManHunts how did you get the armor from felkin he wont give it to me
adam thatsmyname kicked his ass and he dropped it
+adam thatsmyname You need to have 20 Intelligence and 20 Faith. Than he'll give it to you.
4:28 ............ *Slow Claping*.
cheers man worked a charm for my no death run.
Did they lower the power of the staff , it does half the damage now.
that’s what i’m saying dude
It would be good to mention if someone isn't in a rush that they can get two sublime bone dust this way.
Dark Souls 2 - Overpowered in 10 minutes
Step 1: play the game
SM ruins everything. including what the word "overpowered" even means.
This tip leads to a nightmare down the track when you have to clear the area underpowered on new game plus to get to blue cathedral.
Ik it's been a years but you can just leave that to when you reach the end-game if your level is a problem,or not because that area isn't even that hard
How did he get all the items at the start
Necrolord 19 choosing cleric class
Sorry, it was from purchasing separate DLC
@@christophercollins3632 I like that you came back 8 months later, to make a secondary reply to a comment over a year old, that was older than the one im replying to now in the initial.

@@royalcat10 I have all the dlc but didnt get the items???
This is still very doable, I bought Sotfs for PS4 just today and I used this method and it worked, of course I died three times trying to do this but it's very much worth it.
i don't know why but i only do 177 dmg
This vid was before they patched whole magic
:(
it was real OP back in that time.... I'm happy they patched it
Benhard Wiesner Patched what? Magic Weapon on a Fire Longsword at min requirement + 50 int = Nice damage output :x

ALERT NOOB INCOMING! Do you keep those levels you bought in the level up menu when u die? thanks
Yes, you can only reset them with a Soul Vessel :)
Ok thanks
Jakob R Jakob I have a question, how can you, when you level up, choose to go up one level or go down one level? I'm sorry but I'm a noob too :D
Skyline42asd once you level up and confirm it you can't go back down unless you reset your stats.
Dylan Golatka Oh, thanks.
YEAH it worked! Totally cool man thanks! Hex Build i'm coming!
Lol forgets binoculars
“Ah what are you doing” her last little spell sound when she fell off had me rolling 💀💀💀
How do i get the button at 8:19 to work? It wont open for me.
Jakob R doesn't she invade you sometimes? Or something of the sort. It hasn't happened to me, but I've heard it can happen.
Xephyr when you exhaust her dialogue and use her stone later in the game she tries killig you , she uses lightning spear so careful if you have no armor it can one shotu
Well I'm still on my first playthrough, and I've gotten to the throne watcher/deffender
Ig I never exhausted her dialog.
Xephyr nvm you have to get the eye thingy to invade her then u fight her
I did this today without killing the merchant. You just gotta farm a bit more to get your second atn slot after killing Dragonrider.
Killing the merchant seems like a waste of time, since you end up with the hexer gear anyway... Also, did you speed up the video? Looks like there's some Benny Hill shit going on...
I kill the merchant because his gear increases the amount of souls gained from fallen enemies. And no, I did not speed up the video.
+Jeck do you need the merchant for anything later? I don't want to mess up my save
+Teemo IsSatan you can buy some armors after you killed some bosses
+Teemo IsSatan You can ress him anyway.
+Jeck but why did u change it then, does the hexer set have somthing special beside better stats ?
I keep getting one shotted by one of the knights and losing all my souls on the way to kill the boss the second time, its supremely frustrating. Their hit box is HUGE it hard to dodge around them
is this speedrun still doable in Scholar of the First Sin..?
Lurentino Victor YES.
cool..! I may as well give it a try on my next playthrough...
Pretty good 1st step to make a hex twink.
why kill maulin? is his armor decent?
Kouska Chikara gives you extra souls from killing enemies
+Kouska Chikara don't kill npsc they're all special in some way... also maughlin sells boss armor so you shouldn't kill him
+Zombieekill514 Npcs*
Man thanks for the guide, u r so pro!
Does it work still in 2016. I want to see if I can get through dark souls 2 before I get dark souls 3.
They heavily nerfed hex's, but I'd still recommend playing ds2 before going on to 3. ds2 is, in my opinion, easier, so start there.
The thing where you can get the Dragon Rider to fall works, I just did it.
+Kevin Sanders how bad are the hexes?
I think that Dark Souls 3 is harder than 2 , but each to their own opinion
This is extraordinary!
How to fuck up your game in 10 minutes.
Thanks jeck your very helpful.
As a warning to new players, *Because I know tons of Hexer mains who aren't new will have a field day with this*
Starting with hexes in no way helps you improve.
Tom Roberts
Dark transgressors with dark armor and GMB, I call it the Witchhunter.
If it's part of the game, don't complain.
Lexender
Casters are only OP for PvE for PvP i'd say melee users are more OP.
I just did this today. Still works :)
+MegaOZX Chill dude geez....
+Noite Etion sorry we're not an unbelievable pro like you.
MegaOZX Are you shitting me? The Skeleton Lords are a quick jog up the hill from the hex merchant.
thank you for the video, before burning ascetic, I would invest one point into str so you can one hand the mace, and go kill oristien. summon the npc outside the dragonrider and run like hell to the next boss gate.
you teach to use a bonefire ascetic to new players and ruin all theyr game , i know you did this video with the propose to help , but i think willl hurt more then helps because they dont know that they are putting that zone in new game plus one.
Not really because Heides tower of flame is an entirely optional area and you don't really ever need to come back to it at any point, not even in NG+.
SlynchThePuppy
its the first or second area a new player will go , its hard for many to remenber that but it is , i see many many players going there even before going forest...
gorytarrafa If they do it the way the video showed them already have the bonfire to get to no mans wharf. So I wouldnt worry about it ruining their playthrough.
SlynchThePuppy
a good way to do that its to make the bonefire ascetic in things betwixt , but its a lot harder to kill those 2 red phantoms , but after that its super easy you can farm 600 souls in each guy and even get the falcon set for free , imade that and was pretty nice.
SlynchThePuppy its not optional how the hell will you get to hunstmans copse otherwise?
FTH: 20 INT: 22 ATT: 13 stats needed.
I see what you did but that's not overpowered. The zombie you killed was incredibly weak, their one hit kills even for a very weak character
That was pretty impressive
Lol. This method is now useless. Specially now with the Sins of the first Scholar update makes this run impossible. Lol. Worthless
MechaAkuma I did this without a problem with the Scholar of the First Sin update. You'd be surprised by how incredibly easy this is to do.
MechaAkuma Downer
did this, i only do half the damage you do. pretty pissed off tbh
Me too
Still works, of course hexer's are nerfed a bit since, but still effective and a good start!
And here I am, stuck with half my health in a *You Died* loop, :)))
did this mate. I hit for half what you do with the spells, levels etc
I forgot to reply, yes I ended up getting past him. Took a few more tries but success 😆😆😆
with the improved tracking in the scholar of the first sin it is much harder to pull this off
I realise now after doing this to finally do a hex build
That hexes got nerfed and was very much about the same level as starting as sorcerer but more work
well done took me 10 hours to so to get it on my own :D
After failing to knock dragonrider off the edge (the first time) i then proceeded to beat him down slowly with the mace. That fight is way more dissapointing than I first remember it
So I just realised, why the hell have I been pulling the levers before the dragon rider boss fight hahaha
so much frustration trying to get this set man
you don't even know...
watching that made me feel like watching a hot knife cutting through butter.
+Kaiser King i tried that once. took to long so i tried pushing the knife and burned myself.
Maughlin is now pretty hard to kill esp. as a cleric
Would like to say. Did the run. Got the dark orb and armour and everything. Stats are the same. BUT. I'm only dealing half the damage
uglybros279 Yeah, sadly hexes got smashed by nerfs in this game
Jeck damn
OmagaMercinary that was the game summon sign
sooooooo goood very very gooood man!
nice, i started few days ago and its been hurting like hell hahaha with this i can speed up the first part at least :P
I can’t even beat the merchant at the beginning
I get so much satisfaction from 4:53
Dragonrider fight is epic
wow , that was lit dude
BANDICAM *has Vietnam flash back*
I followed this guide and when i made it to the sentinels i got raped, my hex doesn't seem to affect them and i'm stucked.
Captain Reaper you can skip the boss battle
Here is a tip for starters
DON'T burn the bonfire ascetic before you get the Ring of Binding.
