    I selected this video because I wanted to watch a review of the Chessnut EVO, hoping that it would help me decide if I would purchase it. Instead, I got a chess tutorial from an International Master. Subscribed.

    Thank you for the discount! It actually saved me $127, so I got the screen protector and carrying case as well all for just over $600!! And thank you for being an awesome chess teacher! Subscribed and Chestnut EVO ordered! Loved the honest review, great salesman but honest at the same time. Chestnut chose well, at least for my one sale.

    Am very much a beginner, I have been considering purchasing this Chessnut Evo. I do have a much smaller chess computer a Millennium Genius Pro 2024 that I can take out with me. However, I love the way I can use the Evo to practice and hopefully improve to the point that a 6 year old at the local chess club doesn’t kick my bum every time.

    Cool. I think its ability to automatically record games is one of the best features. I've played some OTB games with friends that I wish we had recorded and something like this would have made it easier
    Personally, as a casual player (1600), I'm not sure of the value of this in the computer age of chess (almost all of my games are played online).
    What do you think, does this have any unique value for the chess improver which couldn't be done online? Or do you see this more as a luxury? (It's not cheap). I will plan to watch your other video of the other model.
    I do think a useful feature would be if it had a library of onboard openings or patterns that I could drill on to improve my openings. But I guess that would be a use case for it's chessable integration.
    Thanks for the excellent review!

      Thanks a lot for your comment!
      Well, I guess it's the same as with all the products. Why do people buy an iphone if a 5x cheaper phone can do pretty much the same?
      It is a powerful device that if used the right way, can help you improve your chess faster and more comfortably than otherwise. At the same time, of course you can still improve your level without this board.
      Answering your question, it's not just a luxury, I just had a lesson with a kid using it, he enjoyed it a lot, learned a lot and was more eager to study than otherwise. So it has practical use. But it's definitely not cheap :)

    • @journeytograndmaster
      @journeytograndmaster  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      As for the openings, you can easily go to lichess using this board, switch on the openings database and have everything you need at hand. And of course, save all your analysis afterwards.

    I got mine a couple weeks ago. My only real complaint is that they should include, not only an extra queen, but also an extra rook, bishop, and knight for each color. Why? Because you can only promote a pawn to a piece you have available. I really wanted to promote to a knight and it would have been an instant checkmate, but both of mine were still on the board and therefore I could not promote to it.

    Normally I do not add comments, but since you are the only person out of all of the TH-camrs, who has shown having to play with Black and needing to turn the entire unit around, I thought I'd share a simple solution to this irritation with you. Buy a Lazy Susan turntable and put the unit on top of it so it turns freely. Thanks for the video and the review!

    • @Master_of_Chess_Shorts

      @@journeytograndmaster strange, I replied yesterday but it does not show... It's a good microphone although hopefully, you will outgrow it and move to XLR connectors and cables to preserve as much quality as possible. It's a cardioid type which means that it is sensitive to sound with a pattern emanating from the top like a big spoon of ice cream on a cone. So the way you have it sideways is not ideal, as some of your voice is hitting blank zones. You should be facing it so your voice intersects the top part of the microphone as much as possible. It's a directional microphone, used to limit sound coming from below or the sides that are normally called ambient sounds as they fill a room (reverberation, echo, noise, hum, etc.)
      Then I do not know how you are recording, most likely with OBS. As input add your desktop microphone as well and combine it with the Rode, lower the desktop INPUT level, it's contributing depth (assuming not much noise in your environment) and this part is optional. Select your RODE and add filters to it from OBS. Add Compressor, Gain, Limiter, Noise Gate. Set limiter to -3 Db to control audio spikes, accept all other default values for now.
      This should improve your sound as your videos improve my chess!

    • @journeytograndmaster
      @journeytograndmaster  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks a lot for the tips! I think lowering desktop input really helps (it was 100%, now is 73%, I saw this number in youtube tutorial). Yeah, I record in OBS and have all those filters except for limiter. I have added it now.
      p.s. contact me please regarding playing a game.
