I lived on the island for 57 years and moved to the mainland in 2022 (I can see the island where I now live) and it's always nice to see these "feelgood" video's. Unfortunately, the cost of the ferries and the poor infrastructure and general facilities made it impossible to live )or exist) over there. Such a shame that apart from the natural beauty, the island is no longer the place it once was.
Watching o another quiet Sunday morning & enjoying the IOW vlog some really nice places there ❤😊 nice n relaxing viewing with tales from the little Red camper 🎉
You are visiting all the places I did on my 1981 school trip. Shanklin chine was less touristy back then and the Roman villa I think just had a corrugated roof over it. The body in the well was on display, i remember that.
My wife and I checked into that hotel on the bend in old Shanklin and they put us in a room over the bar. What they forgot to mention was the disco in the bar until way past midnight. We’d also eaten dinner there and my wife must have had a piece of chicken that was off. Not a good night to say the least. Jeff
I have to laugh seeing Carol handing the finances. I too was in charge of all the finances for our home. And carried the Credit Cards and cash. Money management was not something my husband enjoyed. My way younger brother’s wife handles all their accounts for their home, travels and children. I think it’s great!
Interesting Roman villa ….. Shanklin brings back memories of walking around the chine - we also visited. Black gang chine so not sure if that is a different place Great video guys
great island and perfect in winter as they dont suffer snow ,a rare occurrence, im from the peak district and i call the iow the peak district with seaside as the coast is never far away and nice rolling countryside and lots to see and do a great place to visit
Beautiful Chine. A totally new word for us. Held our breath when that lorry was backing out! Thats our biggest fear, that our Buddy will be written off by someone else. Its good to swap roles occasionally too. Nice to see Carol at the helm 🙂🐕🚙
Yes, we dread having an accident that would right off the little red camper. It must be a huge worry for fulltime vanlifers. Didn’t realise until I looked it up but the word Chine is only used in Dorset and Isle of Wight. Thanks for watching ☺️

Thank you for showing Shanklin Chine and the tribute to 40 Commando. Steve and I went last year he is an ex-marine so it meant so much to him. A shame we didn’t know about the Roman museum as we love Roman history. A good excuse to go back. We had a brilliant holiday when we went and know there is so much more to see. Take care Gill
I haven't been on the isle of white for fifty plus years great video showing the scenery Carol I can feel for you when trying to fill out forms online some are great you just type it in and away you go others scroll through to find this gets harder with each year have you come across the ones where you have to scroll back everything at once just using the month. Stay safe
I lived in a house in West Yorkshire, there was a fig tree in the garden and I used to pick the fruit when ripe, they were sweet and delicious. The Isle of Wight is where my gran and grandad had their honeymoon, I can see why now!
@@LifeistooshortCK I thought that too, the owner of the house said his father brought it back from Israel, cannot remember in what form though, I thought that would have been illegal!
Thanks for the video Carol and Ken. Lots of memories of my childhood, you didn’t have to pay for the chine when I was young but I suppose they have to make money to pay for the dinosaurs 😂. I remember having to get out of Dads Reliant and push to get it up into Ventnor Down to see the old radar station.
Figs do ripen to the green stage in autumn in the UK. In spain they reach the green stage in May/June time but in autumn they reach the soft tasty brown stage. Delicious. Good video
I enjoy seeing the history of places you visit. I didn't know there was a chine in Shanklin. I know of Blackgang Chine which is an amusement park. Went there a couple of times in my teenage years. First with my parents and then a couple of years later with my school.

Hi Carol and Ken. This series of videos is wonderful. I have enjoyed the scenery and the little towns with the thatched cottages. And I see you are still enjoying the “little red camper” a bit longer. When will you take delivery of the new camper? Is a Q & A in your future? Safe travels, cheers
Thanks Beth. Glad you are enjoying our Isle of Wight series. No date yet for our new van so may have to change our plans . We will let you all know if we make any new decisions ☺️
I reckon these days figs will ripen on Isle of Wight and probably S England. Here in Brittany we had a friend with amazing figs. Climate change and all that!
I know the weekend starts when you upload your weekly vlogs on Friday evenings. The Isle of Wight is lovely. How long did you stay in total? Looks relaxing and makes me grateful that I'm going on vacation in a few weeks to relax too😅. Thank you as always for sharing 🙏
That happened to me with the auto hand wash machines. Lovely history. Must get back to the Isle of Wight soon. Lovely video. Thank guys. 🙏🚐🧙♂️ Why didn’t you go in the Steamer It’s one of our favourites. 😍
We did go in the Steamer but were not impressed by the menu or atmosphere. It must have changed hands since we were last there. They used to do a tasty prawn salad 😕
I truly enjoy your videos and actually jumped in to see your video about the same time that you started to uploaded. Or, before you finished, anyway. The artistry keeps getting better, and I enjoy them more and more. Whether it was the subject matter, the music, the conversation or my mood, I believe this is my favorite TH-cam video of all time. Thank you for a truly enjoyable break! I have now added The Isle of Wight to my bucket list, knocking Lands End off the list altogether. It may be that taking a little red camper or a similar type of mobile dwelling is the best way to visit. While the seaside inns looked lovely, one would need a car to visit everything. And so, if we are still traveling easily around early May of 24, it will be time I stop thinking and start doing. 3 questions, if I may? What was up with the car and caravan stopped on the bridge? Surely it was not an intentional stop(?). When the Marines moved into Chine for training, where did the residents go. I have always wondered where the dwellers go when a property is borrowed or taken for such purposes. Maybe Their Majesties provide alternative accommodations, maybe they stay on as staff, maybe many a family has been left destitute after being ejected and maybe I have no idea what I am talking about. Finally, regarding the tile mosaic found by the farmer - I will guess (the number of beans in a jar?) that the bird man was an early rendition of the plague masks that the healers wore and the settlement went nowhere but the inhabitants perished of some ailment brought in by ship that was previously unknown to the villagers. Not unlike smallpox to the Mohicans but not an intentional assault (lacking a better word).
Yes, definitely best to explore the island in a small vehicle, some of the roads are narrow. We didn’t notice a car and caravan stopped on the bridge there was just a line of cars due to traffic lights. No idea if the residents had to move out when the Marines arrived for training, I think they just accommodated them. The bird mask was reminiscent of a plague mask. Hope you survived the summer holidays with your grandkids. Take care 🙂
