Hi Ken - just a quick comment out of fellow feeling ; I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes in January, but I can't handle checking to see my blood sugar levels etc every day; My doc. gave me a diet list of healthy foods to follow and along with a healthy diet, she advised proper sleep, and a little excerice each day. The way to clean a porridge pan is to soak it in cold water only. Then after a while you can scoop out the residual mix and the pan is almost empty and easy to wash!
I just use a nonstick saucepan, it's not a problem, no need to soak it, just pop it into some hot soapy water and wipe it clean, it only takes a minute and it's clean.
Three reasons I soak my oats overnight. Less time on the stove, less fuel burned to cook and less condensation on the van windows while cooking. Scotland is beautiful! I enjoyed a solo backpacking trip there in the mid 70s. Best to you both and thanks for sharing your travel experiences!
I have been type 2 for years, started on metformin and thought I could carry on as always. Then I went for my eye screening which you will get invited for. The results scared me sh*tless, I had retina bleeds. The advice was basically sort your diet or you will risk serious vision issues possibly eventual sight loss. I was 54, that made me realise I had to change my lifestyle. It wasn't easy but that thought helped keep me focused. Best advice I got was, don't just avoid sugar, (it's 100%carbs) control all carbohydrate intake. I'm 67 now and feeling good. I have 6 monthly reviews with diabetes nurse, who if I don't stay on track treats me like a naughty schoolboy and threatens me with detention. Best of luck you'll get there

Hi, been living with type two diabetes for years. You will probably have your ups and downs. Carol is your rock. Try not to worry too much. Respect you both. xx
Greetings from Canada, Carol & Ken. I found out I was diabetic back in April. When I make porridge, I add a big tablespoon of natural peanut butter to my bowl. That helps prevent a sugar spike from the oatmeal. I like the taste but if you don't you could use any nut butter.
Bread, pasta AND a Danish pastry - all in one meal? Definitelynot a meal for a diabetic. That's probably what's making you so tired and - dare I say it - grumpy. That's a lovely part of the country, I need to visit again next year - it's almost as nice as the highlands!!!! 😉

Hi both, those two dogs looked like Newfoundlands to me there used to be one here and I would often see him taking his human for an evening stroll. They look quite imposing but in general are very friendly and well disposed towards people especially children. The one I knew was called Yogi and his man told me kids often asked if he was a Bear. Igot in the habit of crossing over to speak to him as it was safer than him pulling his owner across the high street to come and say hello. 😬🐻 It's a good job there are two of you that can and will drive that rig, I well remember driving back from spells away early for various reasons when I'd have had a rest and set for home in the morning. Diabetic nurse told my husband he didn’t have to totally eliminate the good things, for example, you want a sweet, eat it with some protein, the protein slows down the digestion and helps reduce the sugar spike.
I think your husband was told right because my experience with the CGM monitor showed that I was able to eat anything in moderation without causing a spike.
Good morning Carol and Ken Hope that you are both well. This took me down memory lane especially visiting Palnackie. I remember my late parents taking me there 50 plus years ago when we had the Triumph 2000 and Sprite Major but it could have been the Welton Express in tow. I have often said it that apart from the Isle of Skye, Dumfries and Galloway take a lot of beating. We did think at one point that we would retire to Kirkcudbright but sadly for many reasons it was too impractical. Some great drone shots. Kind Regards Crawford
Another great video. I did a similar thing to Carol, went to light the grill for toast one morning and accidentally lit the oven which still had tea towels in it to stop the rattles when travelling. My wife noticed my mistake and I quickly turned the oven off but she said it was still on and that’s when I remembered the tea towels! 🔥
Great video. The trick to cleaning up a pan used for porridge is use cold water. It stops the starch gelatinising and means it rinses off much easier. The same is true for anything that has flour or dough.
When you feel a bit tired and down, think to yourself there are others worse than me watching this. Myself I have heart disease, lung disease and cancer of the lungs and stomach, this week my yearly eye test showed up I need an urgent eye op in 6 months or will be blind In my left eye as well,But you know what I feel good and intend to carry on as much as I can. Others in my position are afraid to live other than day to day,but I still plan ahead what I want and need to do. Overcoming Life is about a positive mind and attitude . Ken be positive and stay that way, life can then can do its worst but you will overcome because of it.
It’s a policy I have followed ever since my sister died. It’s why the channel is called Life is too short. When running a youtube channel we have to let people know what is going on as they tend to notice when things are not normal. 😉
I've bought those porridge pots, and as they are a good sturdy cardboard pot. When porridge eaten, I fill the pot with cold water, then empty and wash .......they can be easily reused for quite a number of times. When reusing with my own porridge mix, I use a mix of oats and dried milk, then add the boiling water as per usual, and when ready, I add fruit. When the cardboard pot can no longer be used, my grandson puts them in his compost heap.
Like Carol, I too have to gain more campervan driving experience. It's very important to be able to share the driving and not to rely on just one driver. You never know when an injury or illness may affect one of you. I now drive our campervan to work on occasions, just to give me more confidence and solo experience. Also, this film taken before your diagnosis is interesting to compare with how you feel now. ❤
I like doing my porridge in a wide soup thermos flask, just pour over hot water to cover the oats and leave for 10-15 mins with the lid on. Doesn’t stick, so easy to rinse out of the thermos.
I’m quite an old hand at camping!! I’m now 67 years old and I started camping - loitering within tents - at the age of three, when I was nearly washed away in Paris!!
Mystery solved... there is so much open land.. apparently, because the soil is so poor. Beautiful scenery though. Btw.. I believe the dogs are Newfoundlands.
Hi Ken and Carol. Listen Ken, regardless of anything else your health is ultimately all you have and if you have to change the things you like to eat then so be it. Your amazing body will give you everything you need if you respect it and fuel it properly. After all you wouldn’t put rubbish in your engine and expect it to run, would you. Choose health Ken and try carnivore but definitely chop the carbs. Good luck, you and Carol have a lovely life 🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️🙏

Can’t wait for your sake for when your videos catch up to post diagnosis as you won’t have to constantly tell people it’s pre diagnosis. It’s so good you know the cause of your tiredness/illness. It’s really hard to do something before you absolutely have to as unhealthy food is such a pleasure in life. I know I struggle. We’ve just sold our California and we’ve got a Westfalia Columbus coming soon and I’m looking forward to your later blogs so I can cook/make some of the things you’re making as I also need to do something about our diet.
Hi guys...join the fire fright club! I had sheets of that stuff in the oven...but didn't check carefully enough that it was all out before lighting the oven. What a disaster! It instantly caught fire and quickly filled the van with black smoke. So I employed our little fire extinguisher...what a mess! We averted a major fire but it took hours to clean up. 😢

One of our fave places to stop over on the way north. No signal though. We rescued an injured short-eared owl there last year. That was fun.
Time to make some more videos 😁👍
Good morning Carol and Ken Hope that you are both well. This took me down memory lane especially visiting Palnackie. I remember my late parents taking me there 50 plus years ago when we had the Triumph 2000 and Sprite Major but it could have been the Welton Express in tow. I have often said it that apart from the Isle of Skye, Dumfries and Galloway take a lot of beating. We did think at one point that we would retire to Kirkcudbright but sadly for many reasons it was too impractical. Some great drone shots. Kind Regards Crawford
always good to trigger memories as long as they’re good ones
Another great video. I did a similar thing to Carol, went to light the grill for toast one morning and accidentally lit the oven which still had tea towels in it to stop the rattles when travelling. My wife noticed my mistake and I quickly turned the oven off but she said it was still on and that’s when I remembered the tea towels! 🔥
😁👍
Very lovely scenery. So good to see you both again. Hope that you enjoy your day.
A keto or carnivore diet can completely reverse diabetes. And the improvement in the way I feel is worth everything.
Lovely video again guys . Thank you ,from a very stormy south east Ireland
Stay safe
Great video. The trick to cleaning up a pan used for porridge is use cold water. It stops the starch gelatinising and means it rinses off much easier. The same is true for anything that has flour or dough.
Cheers for explaining that
When you feel a bit tired and down, think to yourself there are others worse than me watching this.
Great tip 👍
Those villages were so beautifully picturesque, thank you for sharing this trip with us😀👍
Like Carol, I too have to gain more campervan driving experience. It's very important to be able to share the driving and not to rely on just one driver. You never know when an injury or illness may affect one of you. I now drive our campervan to work on occasions, just to give me more confidence and solo experience. Also, this film taken before your diagnosis is interesting to compare with how you feel now. ❤
We really enjoyed this journey with you ,so relaxing and beautiful scenery what more can you ask 😀
I like doing my porridge in a wide soup thermos flask, just pour over hot water to cover the oats and leave for 10-15 mins with the lid on. Doesn’t stick, so easy to rinse out of the thermos.
Lovely to see you both again.. what beautiful views it’s stunning. Thank you for your video ❤
Good luck, you and Carol have a lovely life 🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️🙏
Good luck ken to you carol, you all the best wishes with the diabetes and keep on fighting mate ,keep up the videos when you can and look after yourselves ,best wishes to you both x
@@henryfulker3103 thanks Henry 🙂
Carol to the rescue !! I hope you’re feeling better Ken, chin up.
When you came across the rubbish on the road I knew you were going to pick it up, well done Ken. My solution to the porridge pot problem is to skip it altogether. 😊
Well we are filming what we cook so you will see the changes 👍
Thanks for sharing a great video with lots of lovely drone footage.....
Another great video, ken and Carol. Thank you 😊
Wow what an amazing walk about today. Oh y’all are seriously living the dream .
Fantastic video love these little villages Ken more drone work please 🙏 many thanks
Great video glad you were both OK after finding the cooker was smoking. Love Scenery all around there.Have a great weekend.😊
That pump reminds me of myself since old age at night 😮😊
😁👍
Lovely video again and a picturesque area. Hope all is well on your new travels and stay safe. Blessings from a wet Lincolnshire 🙂
Now that would be scary 👍
Hi Carol and Ken really enjoyed this video, cannot wait for next time.
❤ Take care X X X
Thanks so much

Your so very welcome 🤗
Carol your mic towards the end was very muffled but when Ken spoke his mic was ok ,loved the pass that you went over, beautiful scenery. Great video. I can understand you not being wanting to keep driving Ken, I am a solo driver and every now and then I’ve got to stop for several days and take a break if I’ve been pushing it. Cheer’s Judy.
It’s not just the music it’s your presentation and your calming voice , a bit like Alan wicker ❤
Brings back memories. My grandmother when to school in 😮. The museum was wonderful and the people so accompanying with our family tree. Nana’s father was found dead against the wall by the cattle great you past..
Thanks for the video. Dogs are Newfoundlands 😊
Ken and Carol I enjoy your videos hope Ken is not over doing it ❤❤
We stopped at that CL for the night five weeks ago, breaking the journey before going north, payment in an envelope placed in the box in the toilet/shower room !! and your right the locals race down the lane !!
Hi both I was too diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, they gave me metaformin, I haven’t changed a single thing in my life style, diet ,drink at all but I’m much better more energy, and my score has come down to 6-7 . All the best guys . 👏✊🏴KTF.
Over night oats is lovely frozen berries, yogurt. Lovely vlog as usually xxx
Great job driving carol, you are a v ery nice person
Those dogs that you saw are Newfoundlands.
Not loving the weather causes people to feel bad /the weather is actually a miracle and we are lucky to have it /making life on earth possible/so many dowdy old crusts making life hard by not loving whats lovable!lol!
Love revisiting all my haunts in England. Would you two consider Ireland. That would be such fun too.
@@Celt_Downunder we did some of Ireland in Little Red in 2020 ☺️

Have fun and enjoy ❤ if you can’t when you have all the time left, when can you ❤❤ absolutely, beautiful video x
The dogs you saw were Newfoundlands, the most gentle breed of dog out there, I owned 4. Drumlanrig Castle is home to the Duke of Buccleuch once the largest private landowner in Scotland. You could have visited the estate without going to the castle or gardens but would still have had to pay an entry fee. Love your videos on my doorstep. D and G is a great place to live. Have a good week and drive safely, just avoid puddles on the road as they are probably potholes!
I wish I’d known that about the dogs at the time because I would’ve found a wander up there and made a fuss of them, but I didn’t want to risk it in case they were territorial 😁👍
We laughed too much at the water pump comment! N&Nx
Hi Ken & Carol, great to see you drive through our new home town of Dalbeattie. Just to let you know there is a permitted park up on the car park on John St. the new house on the front at Kippford is now up for sale.
@@dcurleyifa thanks for the info 🙂👍
