How To Set Up an Access Control System: Complete Step-By-Step Guide for Beginners

- If you've never set up access control before, the hardest part is getting started. That’s why we made this video, to guide you through every step you need to take to install your first access control system today.
If you’re interested in Access Control, but you’re spending all your time online reading blog posts and watching TH-cam videos about it, I have some good news for you. This is the last video you’ll ever have to watch before you finally jump in and set up that very first access control system.
Or maybe you’ve thought about jumping into access control, but there are just too many hurdles, too many obstacles in the way. Well, I have some good news for you, too. This video will help you look past those obstacles and just get started.
Here is the major premise of this video: start! Get your feet wet. Sure, if you’re looking at an 84 door access control system, you’re going to be pretty nervous about your first access control system. But before you can install an 84 door access control system, you have to start with just one. One door. One customer. One installation.
That's why we recommend the ZKTeco Atlas Series Single Door Installation Kit (Atlas 100-1) for all beginners wanting to set up their very first access control system.
So here’s our challenge to you, should you choose to accept it. Watch this entire video, beginning to end. All 30 minutes of it.
But don’t just watch it. We give you some very actionable advice in this video and invite you to act on it. So follow along with us, and by the end of the video, you’ll be completely ready for your very first installation.
What happens after that? Start from the beginning and do it all over again. Consider this video your access control training wheels. Use this process as many times as you need to until you become totally comfortable with setting up a single-door access control system. Then when you’re ready to move on, just keep taking it one step, and one door, at a time.
There’s a lot to learn when it comes to Access Control. And if you want to cram all that knowledge into your brain before getting started, then this is not the video for you.
If, on the other hand, you’re tired of reading about Access Control, if you’re tired of watching other people install access control systems, and if you’re ready to finally start that new business venture you've been looking into, then you’ve come to the right place. Sit back, grab some paper and a pen for notes, and take that first step with us today.

Excellent videos, and I’ve only just started. You teach it like we are in the same room. Thanks in advance 👏
For those experts........this is tutorial for beginners like me, and I appreciate it; if you are an expert instead of coming here to criticize make your own video and teach your skills.
Well said!
The is one of the best training & instruction videos I've ever watched for any subject! Thank you so much. You make the complex easy.....
GREAT VID. Thanks for the tutorial. Well presented, no fluff, solid and clear delivery.
Thank you so much for this video. It was very comprehensive. Please continue to create more videos like this. :)
Im an aspiring security systems project manager. This is extremely helpful. SUBSCRIBED!
great one dude you're worth a subscription. keep your work coming.
Dude , such a powerful video . Good work
Great video. Thanks for the beginner-friendly tutorials
The best ACS video I ever watched ✌️
Thanks for the video. Great information
Great video presentation and great trainer.
Thanks for this Nelly.
That was quite insightful , I have so much from the video.
Wow great Video 😍😍 thank you so much boss
Zkteco company should hire you to make training videos for them. Your tutorial are so easy to understand as compared to what the company tutorials offer
Good to see what the ZKTeco commissioning/user interface looks like. I hear / come across the name a bit.
Do they incorporate intrusion detection into any of their systems?
I will always subscribe to your channels....
Your tutorials really gives me the information that I really need.
Glad you find them helpful! Let us know if you ever have any questions.
Thank you for this video! Now I wonder how access system can work with security cameras.
amazing video, very clear
Hi Great Work!
Just wondering
1. I notice there was no Door Contact - Why is that?
2. The panel doesn't have an emergenc supply pack, how do you combat a brown out?
Thank you
This Video is not only informative but it is literally taken one by the hand to build an access Door control even as a beginner. Please do you have a Video on ZKTeco F22 Access Control Installation guide?
Thanks man!
I work for a security company and honestly am bored of installing our security panels. Next steps to go is CCTV and Access control. It definitely doesn't look toooooo bad but I'm sure it's probably harder than CCTV since this involves fishing the door frame. Decisions decisions. Thanks for the intro to access control!
Great video thanks
Excellent 👌👍👍
GREAT VID
Great lesson
Nice video. To the point and easy to navigate.
Glad it was helpful!
Gr8 tutorial....
Nice, informative video, Tyler! Would this same 1-door system work with one gate operator in the same manner?
It will depend on the Gate Operator. Feel free to reach out to our support team.
Will the ZKTeco controllers work with existing Honeywell OP10HONS omniprox readers? I'm trying to do a retrofit. Thanks, great video.
Thanks. If a door hasn't got an electric handle and instead has a normal door handle with a lock, if I unlock the door with a key, will the card reader automatically unlock as if an ID card has been swiped or will it stay locked.
Just a query.....is magnetic sensor as the 4th device to detect if the door is slightly ajar or left slightly open?
Good sharing
Great content have you ever bumped into a 3 door brivo system I am currently working on one and tbh I am still salty over a last experience I had
We do not carry that brand! We'd love to talk to you about the products we carry. Our customer service is top notch, so we'll take good care of you.
It’s very helpful video but I didn’t see how you wired push to exit also if you show us motion sensor and door lock wiring if we terminate on the same panel
Great video!I need some guidance regarding which type to use
Looks like you reached out to us via our website! We can discuss in details there.
Is the ZTeco controller applicable to hotel application with multiple doors?
Great video and through explanations. Only question is does this system have to be installed using internet or can it be set up and operated in a 100% internet free environment?
You can use it without internet
Is there a multidoor video? If you have multiple controllers do you have to program each key to each controller? How would you setup dual card readers for each door?
Great video for beginners like me! I just want to ask if there's a power outage or the power supply is disconnected, how this device would react?
If there's a power outage, all readers would stop working and the locks would either lock or unlock depending if you have it set up as a fail safe lock (will unlock during an outage) or fail secure (would lock during an outage). That said, we recommend a UPS or backup battery.
Excellent tutorial!! Is it possible to incorporate this system with a barcode scanner? Our customers already have ID cards with barcodes on them. Don't want to issue a separate card...
Are these proximity cards?
Great video I face interview now
Great

Quick question: On the box it says 22/2 and 22/4.
In the video it says 18/2 and 22/6.
So which one do I need?
Thanks
You can use any one of them depending on your application. 18 gauge is a better cable.
do we have to connect the Electric lock from a separate source such as 220v Ac from a power socket ?
It would depend on what power source your lock supports. Typically its 12vDC.
question why did the diagram not macth the nc wiring specified
Can add another controller at another building and another network to be used at the same web access so that I can have access to 2 completely separated locations?
The controllers can be in different buildings, but they must be on the same network in order to communicate with eachother.
Can you please help me to change the name in the control Acces on this program! Are you something similar in a hotel
bonjour et merci pour la formation est ce possible de pouvoir personnaliser l'interface ivs tout en lui ajoutant un logo d'entreprise ainsi que quelques informations ???
nice
Do you have a low voltage license? If so what steps need to be taken in order to obtain that?
We do not, this video is strictly for demo purposes. I would contact your local Fire Marshal or a quick internet search for your city/state on that!
good work sir
Keep it up
And first comment 😎
Thanks!!
Secure em with electric tape. Very professional!
Demonstration purposes only!! We set up systems and tear them down all the time. These aren't meant for permanence.
What happens if the system lost power?
Can I have a walk through on everything about access control and your products?
You can contact our sales and we can give you a run down on the products. 855-340-9999
why no shielded wire?
Are you available and do you offer training
We do not offer training unfortuantely. There are courses on IPVM.com as well as ZKteco has a C3 Pro certification course you can take.
What is the amount of doors that you can add with this system? can you do 5 doors? or if not what is the model that you need to ? Also you mentioned to check with the city and FD for permits?
BTW This was a great video!
On the Atlas series you can have a max of 21 panels or 84 doors whichever comes first.
Yes, most state/local laws require permits and a walk through with a local fire marshal. I would check to see what your city requirements are just to be safe.
@@NellysSecurity the one on the video only does 1 door correct? So if I need to do 3 doors I will need to purchase 3 panels. Got it! Do you have a link to yours and the one that does 84 doors.
Thank you!
Yes a single door controller is for a 1 door solution.
If youre needing to control 3 doors, then id advise going with the atlas 400 -> www.nellyssecurity.com/zkteco-atlas400-4-door-kit-complete-four-door-access-control-kit-capable-of-using-weigand-and-osdp-readers-supports-poe-power-and-wifi.html
If you need more than 4 doors for example, you can stack these panels to get to the 84 total doors. 21 x4door controllers = 84 total doors.
How much is one set of the system applicable for one door? Just asking?

you can learn TPLINK access controller system, as TPLINK has cctv, net cable, ip broadcst system
if i want a keypad instaed ok keyreader is that possible?
yes it is.
Is their any type of certification program for access control installers? I want to be able to troubleshoot the physical components of the system. I am very familiar with the software and what I can and cannot do. But when those do not work, I get stuck.
At one of my jobs, the speedy gate is tied to the fire alarm and when we did a few drills, the last drill where the alarm was pulled back on and back off suddenly, the gate locked open. We tried everything from the software and from the device it appears to still be receiving the emergency signal. We reset the controller, badge reader, and activate gate. We power cycled it, reset it manually, and it is doing the same. Only one of the three gates. We don’t know why.
Other doors are just unlocking on their own and the software keeps showing error on the unit. The error shows when it works and doesn’t.
Is their a certification for troubleshoooting these types of issues or for an alarm installer?
Zkteco does offer webinars from time to time. Also they have US based tech support so they can always assist you.
@@NellysSecurity do you have a tecnical based support in Kenya ? I want to always grow with you?
For the exit button you say the NC terminates on ground but the diagram shows NO on ground…

Will this system work on any door?
If you can fit a mag lock or an electric strike on it, then yes!
I would advocate dolphins connection vs wire nuts.
Do you think the backgroud music too loud?
Wat r u sped??
How I can connect if I have a sensor based exit button.
Hello Parvez, if you got the Access Panel from us, try reaching out to our tech support and we can provide the proper wiring diagram for you - customerservice@nellyssecurity.com / 855-340-9999
What about 10 doors ?
sensors and keypads instead of reader ?
You can accomplish that with the Atlas series. You will just need to add secondary panels.
Normal call is registerd by acess control likhata ha gab ma kisi ko call karti hu
Can you see which users have used the door in a time period?
Each user gets logged once they use their card or pin. You can review the events on live monitor or run the report after the fact.
Where can I buy ?

I would prefer hardware like this with an electric strike plate for residential installs, instead of the cheap plastic z wave locks!
I think residential access control will continue to become more popular
@@NellysSecurity me too. I just don't like that a lot of the z wave lock stuff is plastic.
Dollar store system. S2 lenel galaxy, that's what you want to install
12 minutes to get to the actual installion
"A" for preparedness
Very fast ..
I actually will not recommend doing it this way. You don't want your request to exit button to release at your panel. Your panel is an electronic component and your request to exit button is relying on it to release. I've seen these panel relays lock before and is never recommended to be release from the panel. It should cut power directly from the Mag lock. He should have added a PIR motion sensor to release at the panel and the button as a direct secondary option (mandatory in most states). Although he has good intentions I would never recommend a beginner to do it this way. He should've recommend an electric strike. Mag locks are risky by state and local county codes.
Kindly organise for us one tutorial with comprehensive demonstration with easy steps so that we can learn more of these... I'm from kenya
Please sand me work visa bro please
Too much speed
Turn the music down, FFS.
Man... No DPS means that your aren't doing access control, you are doing card access, you aren't monitoring anything for control. You aren't installing a fail safe power break on your manual REX. You aren't using an optical REX to follow the "no special knowledge" rules in the NFPA. The optical REX should of course also drop power to the Mag if it loses power itself. You also have no UL listed mag power drop on fire alarm.
Maglocks are also just about the worst thing to use to learn with due to the additional legal requirements, the extra work to actually align properly, to adjust the door closer for proper contact speed to avoid damaging the Mag body mounts into the header, etc, etc....
So yeah....you aren't teaching access control.
Thanks!
Damn... where's your video hater! This is access control because he is in fact "controlling access". Cut it out and stop being miserable.
@@ndleinahaystack2922 I've been teaching access control and other low voltage for a great many years. This video is demonstrating badge access, not access control.
And some of what i brought up is federal code. He shouldn't be teaching something if he doesn't meet code.
Yeah maglocks have myriad of egress requirements. Like you have to have a power interruption in line in the event of a Rex failure. The better option for a beginner video would have been something like a door strike or cylindrical lock that satisfies most egress requirements since they generally have egress on one side built in.
What is it how you explained is completely useless have some training and then do this properly
you talk to much man
Worst wiring I've seen in 15 years. Bad connections. No emergency break glass. Just all round poor cowboy install
Hey Aidan,
This video was more for demo purposes to show how the panel and accessories work. We took it all down immediately after.
Definitely keep things to code when installing for a customer!
boring video, talk too much
