Kramer Baretta Special w/ Bridge String Locking Block for Tuning Stability with EVH inspired paint

  • This guitar is using a prototype Tremolo Bridge which uses a modified block which locks the strings below the bridge plate for TUNING STABILITY. The first prototype was born on Superbowl Sunday and tested during the game. It worked so well I filed for a US Patent, and modified blocks on several other guitars including the stock bridge that comes with Kramer Baretta Special guitars. This works on ANY 6 screw or Fednder 2 point style bridge. Tuning Stability for tremolo equipped guitars with no hole drilling in your guitar. Works like a Floyd Rose but looks original.

    I have a 1984 Kramer (MusicYo Eddie) I also have an EVH Frankie Striped Series. Both have Floyd Rose 1,000's both are now decked onto the body no trem stopper. The 84 came setup bridge perfectly straight. I tightened the claw just enough so that the bridge sits on the body like my EVH guitar. The Kramer now has through the roof harmonics and resonance. Best move that I ever made. No string buzz, I always say they both play like butter.

      I’d like to see them both!
      I became a Strat guy in the 80s, started with a Les Paul but loved the playability of a Strat. I love the Baretta’s, and just got my first Charvel. Looking at it and the fact Charvel and the EVH guitars come from the same MIM factory, I’m sure eyes closed I won’t be able to tell the difference. I’m doing something cool with the micro-tuners on Floyd Roses to be revealed soon.
      An EVH striped is in my future next.

      Decked would certainly provide better resonance and make it easier to use a D’Tuna.

      @@tremdoctor007 The 1984 Kramer came with a Dtuna not installed, also came with two volume knobs, one knob is chrome, the other is the 5150 MXR style. I just put the MXR knob on it. I'll be putting the Dtuna on it soon here

    Nice video, I like the guitar! Everything that you've done with the stripes looks excellent. The points that you called imperfections look as if they belong on it. Looks like something Edward could have done himself. 😁👍🏻

      I’ll add these Schiller bridges are really nice, smooth as butter and very high quality, made in Germany. It’s like the original non fine tuning Floyd Rose which I have on a white Barrett’s Special (video coming soon). That’s my Frankenstein because it had many issues, now it’s among my favorites. Only the white Barrett’s Specials are made in China, the rest are made in Indonesia and have mahogany bodies, the China made is much heavier, not sure of the body wood species. The Batetta’s sold now with Floyd 1000s have maple bodies and are pretty bright sounding and heavier.

    Genius design, I want a block for a Strat. Only thing I would prefer is a thinner block but guitarist do not understand physics and believe size and mass equals sustain and tone.

    Looks great. Only question I have is, having a locking nut, how do you fine tune the strings after locking the nut? Obviously a FR has fine tuners on the bridge but your
    bridge looks like it does not. What happens if or when one of your strings goes flat? Or sharp?

    • @tremdoctor007
      @tremdoctor007  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks, great question.
      Short Answer: With a properly installed Floyd Rose locking nut and the string bar, tightening the caps on the locking nut does not alter the pitch up or down. I merely use the allen wrench to loosen the caps, then tune the guitar and then tighten the caps.
      The fine tuners are nice and convenient for sure, but honestly this system (and Oriiginal Floyd) does not go out of tune quickly,
      Longer Answer:
      The original Floyd Rose also did not have micro-tuners, and I have one of these on my guitar.
      Here: www.floydrose.com/collections/tremolos/Non-Fine-Tuner
      This Schaller Bridge may be the same base plate with different hole patterns as the non-micro-tuner version. Floyd micro-tuners are great, I have a Gotoh Floyd and a Floyd Rose with micro-tuners, the only downside to me is the micro-tuners get in the way of my right hand. A flush bridge is pretty nice for comfort, its why I bought one of the Original Non-micro-tuning Floyd Rose bridges for another Kramer Baretta I own. The main point of THIS locking system is allowing people with standard 2 point Fender bridges or anyone with 6 point bridges to have Floyd functionality with their standard looking guitar bridge, no holes being drilled. The Floyd Rose is awesome, I'm a fan and have been since the 80s. To me the only improvement to a Floyd Rose with micro-tuners would be low profile micro-tuners for a flush feel. The low profile unit no longer in production was not all that low profile.

    Great video. What tools did you use to machine the bridge? That is a great idea. I picked up a Baretta Special with the intent to do some fun upgrades but so far all I do is play it.

      @@mykneeshurt8393 thanks. These are great playing guitars, great necks and good sized medium jumbo frets, good shredders. I had the block machined by a friend and machinist. The original ones were just set screws, I quickly switched to the sliding lock pins which is much easier on the strings and more positive, like a Floyd Rose. These are great bridges BTW. Schiller which is nearly exactly the same base and the original non micro-tuning Floyd Rose bridge

    Did you re-poly the finish after applying the tape?

    • @davidspinazzola4250
      @davidspinazzola4250 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, after some wet sanding I applied 3 coats of clear, let it dry for a few days then wet sanded and buffed. Key is dry time between coats, give it several days or it’ll blister when the thinners in the paint are applied over the coats below. Practice on scrap.

    Similar to what JHS does with the locking saddles am I right ? Not sure if these ever gonna see the light of day, but beyond that all the height, intonation and locking adjustments seem way too cramped on a single saddle. He sure has a history of making unnecessarily complicated bridges.

    • @davespin9034

      The only JHS I've heard of makes pedals, the only locking saddles I've seen are by Wilkinson. Those are $75 and a very simple design.

      Answering your question from my personal account. I had to drill the 2 point holes at 74mm. I don't recall how much routing I had to do if any. It was fairly simple with the drill press.
