"I consider myself an amateur leathermaker" shows off amazing looking sandals :) Consider this a vote of interest for videos of sandal making etc, more content is allways good.
Always cool to see it go from flat sheet metal to finished piece. Love all the small "anatomical" details around the central ridge, it's really cool how it enhances the whole look.
All going great, binge watched the whole making of the set and you then didn't put it on as a whole. Well i guess i gotta wait for the weapons for that! Got yourself a sub, great work man!
If you want to know more about the armor of how it may or may not have been, there's a facebook group called the united league of armorers that has a bunch of blacksmiths that practice all kinds of styles of armor and history. They might be able to help with any specific info on the greek armor. They helped me get started on my different armor projects.
very nice, as always. Does it kind of dig in just above your knee when standing straight ? I have had to wear hoplite greaves for a movie, and the upper end was a bit more oriented outwards, for comfort when standing up, and also I guess it would provide better deflection, should you receive a spear or sword slash in the area, the greave would deflect the blade away from your flesh, (and femoral arteries) instead of guiding it upwards. Con was that it would sometimes catch bits of food while sitting during lunch and there's just no way of getting it out without unstrapping :) I'm not so sure if arm braces are historically accurate, as I have seen many pictures with them but a lot without. But it sure would add a lot to the badassery of the whole look. Same for a bright Red cape. I know they probably wore capes as protection from weather, but probably didn't fight with them for obvious reasons.
@@ThakIronworks Immortal in 2010. Pretty shitty movie, to be honest. We had to wear those kits, althought made from some kind of plastic sometimes for 18h straight, with those hard leather sandals that felt like walking on wooden planks. The armor had no padding inside near the neck so guys all had rashes and blisters at the end of the first day from the edge of the head opening rubbing against the skin. Wardrobe had to put on some kind of rubber paddig to alleviate that. Bad experience, for a bad film, by a bad director :)
1st time i think i seen your steak table, is it a thing or something you had made? when you do your sheet metal planishing have you thought about using auto body hammers or spoons for planishing, i use them as i'm in that trade, a slapping spoon and or a planishing hammer would work well
I absolutely love your work! Would it be possible to pay you to make me a muscle cuirass? I love the one that you made in one of your videos, and I have been looking for a historically accurate one. Thanks and amazing content
Very cool, thinking about trying out smithing myself soon. May I suggest some weapons or armor from the Infinity blade games? infinityblade.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Weapons_in_Infinity_Blade_III they have some interesting designs I think.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Currently not doing any game builds as I am trying to focus more on the blacksmith community than the gaming community. Thank you for the suggestion though!
The proper pronunciation is Opleet with a long O. Oplo is Greek for armament, Opleetis refers to a man who is armed. Lose the H, elongate the E and you have the real thing.
Thak Ironworks Yeah, hope we cannot lose. But hope alone won’t change things, so please, you and family and coworkers: Stay healthy, protect yourselves, my friend

All going great, binge watched the whole making of the set and you then didn't put it on as a whole. Well i guess i gotta wait for the weapons for that! Got yourself a sub, great work man!

Can you make Tuatahi racing stile axe
It is good to put on 3 pairs of socks and roll up the legs then the effect is similar to a shock absorber.

For the little I have worn mine...I did not notice them digging in too much...but I will readjust if needed...what movie or show were you on?

How did they add color to the armor in ancient times? Obviously they didn’t have “blueing” solution?
They would have had weak acid solutions like vinegar also ammonia in the form of urine...ancient folks did a lot of stuff with piss
Why didn't he wear the armor set?
The time will come, once the sword and spear are finished.
Sir I want to know how to make foot sole and hand fingers
