Conflict of interest can be confusing because what if the NP was founded by relatives and some of those relatives have very special skills and services they’d been contributing for free from the start. Then when funding comes in they can’t be paid? We often start organizations with very limited resources and access to providers. That’s when we lean on friends and family for support. If a married couple start a NP, and they are the working board in the early stages, how do you transition when you expand capacity?
I hear you. Basically, the IRS wants to ensure nonprofits are not formed to be controlled or to serve the interest of one person or family, so it set up these checks and balances.

Hey there! Who becomes the CEO is a conversation with you and your Board. :) I would tell your Board that is your goal and inspire their support to vote to approve that position for you.
Now actually what is the benefit of a nonprofit organisation, because I am working so hard to establish it and it seems likes other people may come and reap its fruits. No ownership and you still have to be voted for positions, what will my role be than?
I originally started a podcast about true crime and trauma which led me to my nonprofit. I am not currently making money on the podcast but hope to at some time but is this a conflict of interest since they are both mine? I refer to each one on both websites and I have a fake board at the moment. I am all 3 members 😂🤦🏼♀️
Have you filed for 501c3 nonprofit status with the IRS? You won't legally be able to have a fake board (plus that is scary for donors to hear!). RE: Podcast - as long as your podcast and nonprofit are totally separate entities, and you aren't using the nonprofit to generate profit for your private for-profit podcast, I don't think it would be a conflict; so you can advertise the nonprofit through your podcast but you wouldn't advertise your podcast on your nonprofit's website.
