I would love to do a project like this and donate it to a charity that helps furnish homes for low income families or foster kids who are aging out of the system. It doesn’t have to be high quality but something that will help get families on their feet. Thank you for your inspiration.
I would put this in my son's room! My parents have been using the same laminate set since they were married in the mid 1970's. They are often as solid as some wood pieces. Thanks for giving it a new life!
most folks can't afford high end furniture...so giving these pieces life gives folks more choice and keeps them out of the garbage...brava! keep rescuing these pieces!
You’re so DEDICATED in sticking it out even when the going gets tough. Thanks for breathing NEW LIFE into lower end furniture pieces! Excellent example for beginners.
The whole project I found myself saying, “Smart Girl”! “I Love you Katie Scott”! Seriously, your knowledge on knowing how to fill, cut and use power tools, painters tape, clamps, Bondo, and just all of your helpful tips are just the absolute BEST! I LOVE watching your videos! You’re truly talented and I love that you share your knowledge through videos. You ALWAYS INSPIRE me! ❤
From solid wood to solid particle wood, it is still good furniture and does what it was intended to do. I grew up on these, I’ve flipped some of these to sell or for my own home and they hold up just fine. Thank you for redeeming them and showing us how it can be done. The new owners will truly appreciate your labor of love. Great navy color!
Very nice! I just completed a set of laminate nightstands. I live in FL and painted them a beachy coastal blue and did a a faux weathered wood look on top. Posted and sold them in 3 hours. I don’t charge a lot, I do it for fun $. Had 5 people waiting in line to purchase them.
I was amazed that I was not the only one that thought they looked like dog bones, so glad you removed them. I think you can make particle board look great, good job!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Katie, I am amazed at the beautiful pieces of furniture you produce. I must say that I too am amazed at how strong you are! You pick up these pieces of furniture as though they are light as a feather
I like that dark blue much more than I thought I would! Can't see it in a living room but it would be appealing in a master bedroom suite on campaign furniture with pale or bleached wood accents.
I get so mesmerized when I watch your videos! I love how relaxing they are, and I learn something new each video I watch of yours! Is there any way that you could tell us how much you spent on the piece you bought and then tell us how much you will be selling them for? That would be super helpful for me. I realize you are in Canada and I'm in the US, but it would still help me. Now if I could just stop watching your videos and get going on my own projects, I might get something done! lol Love you Katie Scott... you are an inspiration to me!
Beautiful transformation job, Katie. Even though the paint was a pain to get on its a stunning color! The hardware really makes it stand out! Gorgeous job! 😊❤
I love watching your videos. I feel like I’m watching my best friend & my mentor. ❤ Thank you! AND - thanks for dumbing down your tools so us part time refinishers feel like we have a chance at creating something special with our crappy house tools. You really give us Hope and inspo to believe in ourselves. And I love how you were using your bench scraper from your bread making days 😂 hey we can’t expect you to have loaves of sourdough in your kitchen while you’re busy creating in the garage! Thank you for being so real! Your work is amazing and your video & editing skills are top shelf too.
I love your channel because you are a combination of carpenter / teacher / artisan.. I really like how this old, tired dresser turned into a beauty statement piece. Color is eye-catching! ❤
Great update to this furniture! Like you said, probably won't be able to retire in the amount you'll make on this type of furniture but it was definitely worth saving!
Good work as always, Katie. Really like the way you give this furniture new life. Drawer units are useful anywhere in the home. In fact, I was looking at another channel, and the designer used a medium sized dresser painted in a smart colour in her foyer to hold shoes. She opened the bottom drawer, and there were her children’s shoes! Very cool use.
Love the news smaller tops without the excess overhang. I had trouble also with the SW emerald with the overlapping and endend up going back to Behr because of the stripping that I had. 😊
Love watching your restorations even if it is pressed wood chip furniture. Better to re-use if possible than throw it in the dump. Great job. Love the navy with the brown baseboard. Here’s from Australia.🤗🇦🇺
I love to take these cheaper but useful pieces, and I use wood, hardware and other elements removed from previous pieces along with stains and paints, decoupage papers and design what I call a Frankenstein pieces of furniture, I have only done a few, but it was fun to do!
Great flip - the stained bottom piece really updates the look. I flipped an MCM style laminate dresser - free curb find - for our rec room. Red body with white drawers! Have 2 MCM style laminate bedside tables ready for stained vertical and black painted horizontal elements. $5 each from ReStore. Perfect for our home.
You can also put pieces of toothpicks in holes that are stripped and then just put the screw back in and it will hold tight again! I try and always use a little wood glue too. 😊
That was a fair evaluation of he sprayer. I did note that you’ve changed from the surf prep to something cheaper to use and with more surface coverage. Nice.
I have a Surf Prep 5” orbital sander that I use all the time but as I explained in this video I thought it would be a nice reminder that you don’t need to have an expensive option to get the job done.
@@salvagedbykscott I caught that too. It’s easy to get wrapped around the axle over what you need to have to do work. I admit the surf prep did it to me, because I had never seen a small 3x5 with vac. I got one and I love it, kinda…. I find myself going back to my 5” round Dewalt simply bc of the hand grip. On the surf prep. I have a hard time hiding it in strange angles bc I cannot tuck my fingers under it the way I would prefer. So it sits on the shelf more than I thought it would. Even so, Katie, you inspired me to start my business. And I have learned so much from you, and Angie at Transcend and many more (lemons to lemonade, flipped by Abby, “Dan the Furniture Repair man”, etc) as a former content creator in a different target market, I appreciate the time you take to do the videos, and reply. Thanks for that. Happy Selling!
Wow, this thrift store non-contender turned out really great, and saved it from going to the landfill! Thankyou for sharing the process. Two thumbs up!!
You never disappoint. I thought they look like dog bones too, and was so glad when you took those pieces in the front off you prove time and time again if you take your time and do this correctly, you can end up with a decent piece of furniture no it’s not gonna go on an antiques roadshow but it’s certainly usable and if you were a new young family starting out and you need your dressers For the kids they were perfectly fine.
Request! Please do a 60’s kitchen table and chairs. The kind with walnut or ash? Wood and chairs but the tabletop is laminate. When “colonial”was in, this table and chairs was ubiquitous I want to see you do it in beige wash. Thank you for helping me. I’m doing my first project in morning. 🥳
As you said the two pieces are perfect for a male's room. The only thing I would do differently is the color of the handles and the knob. I would choose the same style in a dark bronze to match the wood color of the skirting boards.
Its so funny you brought up sanders today. I've been subconsciously obsessing over them all. I'm looking at my next one, but haven't saved enough for the serfprep. Soon!! Until then i bought an adapter to hook my little black and decker to my shop vac. Good enough 😊
Amazing to watch your process. I personally think it turned out great. You took a perfectly fine piece of furniture and gave it new life for someone to love for years to come, instead of it ending its life in the dump.
Im from when that furniture would have been originally sold! The 70s had a lot of Colonial style influence because of the Bicentennial of the USA in '76. I like that youve committed to keeping this out of the landfill and you really can only repaint this type of plastic laminate, but Im not a fan of that blue. I do like blue, but not on that style of furniture. I think a dark grey would look good and be more neutral to take more colors in, but thats just me. You upgraded it well, you did a great job!

❤❤❤such a great idea!
Me too!
Great for those guest rooms that typically do not get excessive usage.
I would put this in my son's room! My parents have been using the same laminate set since they were married in the mid 1970's. They are often as solid as some wood pieces. Thanks for giving it a new life!
Very cool!
Agreed! Ive worked on a couple of midcentury laminate/mdf sets that my friend's parents had used since the 60's. They were very solid!
most folks can't afford high end furniture...so giving these pieces life gives folks more choice and keeps them out of the garbage...brava! keep rescuing these pieces!
I like the blue color with the brown on the bottom
You’re so DEDICATED in sticking it out even when the going gets tough. Thanks for breathing NEW LIFE into lower end furniture pieces! Excellent example for beginners.
I had to laugh when you said you saw “dog bones”. I immediately saw the same thing.

Do you mind saying what shade of beachy coastal blue you used and the brand? I've been looking for a good pale blue myself.
@@kikilynn1167 it was a mix I made of some colors I had. But I did a desk using Annie Sloan Provence and that was the color I matched.
Good restoration. People tend to see laminate furniture as dispensable, but you've shown it can be updated and is usable.
I was amazed that I was not the only one that thought they looked like dog bones, so glad you removed them. I think you can make particle board look great, good job!!!!!!!!!!!!!
😁 Loved the before and after
Love the end result! Just lovely and a save from the landfill!!! You go Katie!!!
Katie, I am amazed at the beautiful pieces of furniture you produce. I must say that I too am amazed at how strong you are! You pick up these pieces of furniture as though they are light as a feather
Don’t be too impressed. These guys are pretty light. 😂❤️

Gorgeous! I love that you show how it can still be saved even though it's not solid wood. Love it!
I could just as easily see this in a girl’s bedroom as a boys…but am super impressed with the end results as well as your patience with the painting.
Welcome back. That project turned out so good. I see that type of outdated furniture everywhere. Thank you for featuring those types of makeovers.
Dog Bones! I literally laughed out loud
😊 A beautiful remake! The multiple coats paid off👍🥰
What a transformation!!!!!! Loved the process so much Katie. Well done!!

Perfect for a boys room or guest room!

You are truly a pro. Thank you for sharing it with us. I am watching from South Africa. Love you stacks.
It is amazing how you just seem able to make any piece of furniture look fabulous. Well done🎉🎉🎉

What a beautiful end result and I love your voice over explaining your process.

Hi, Katie. I love your "sarcastic" t-shirt! Great job on this flip 👍
So fun seeing you get more comfortable with power saws!!! 🎉
Wow! Super nice 👍 Thank U for sharing your process.
Totally updated look. Drawers work. I think anyone would be happy to have these in their home.
Amazing difference exactly as you say for little person bedroom👏👏❤️
It turned out great!
This looks great! I love the color.
Great work! i love how smooth and rich the surface is when you've finished! kindest regards, k
Such a great difference! 💙
Wow, this thrift store non-contender turned out really great, and saved it from going to the landfill! Thankyou for sharing the process. Two thumbs up!!
I had the same problem with that color! I think it took me about five coats. Your finish came out so nice and smooth.

I’m a bit speechless!!! Wonderful job, I love dark blues and greens……..lovely 💙💙💙

Thank you for sharing this and how you up-cycled them ❤
Great flip 👍
Nice to have you back making videos 😊
Great job! I love the navy!

Looks great!
Beautiful work, Katie. Love everything you do.
Great renovated furniture, congratulations!
I always learn from your videos! Love that you're saving stuff from the landfill!
Amazing to watch your process. I personally think it turned out great. You took a perfectly fine piece of furniture and gave it new life for someone to love for years to come, instead of it ending its life in the dump.
Excellent Katie! I just painted the inside of a hutch something very close to that blue.
AWESOME OUTCOME! WELL WORTH IT.
A friend told me that you had a tutorial to fix “burn through” on a faux wood table top. I need a fix then will stain the table top! Thank you!!!!
Your work is incredible!
Another great job Katie❣️❣️
Love the pulls. Great job!
Yay! Welcome back! That paint!!!! But in the end, it looks awesome! Great job! 💙💙
Wow! They turned out gorgeous!

Love this flip!
Enjoy watching you take on these types of furniture.🤗.
AWESOME AS ALWAYS
JUST FABULOUS!
You had my subscription at "dog bones!" ❤
I had a Wagner sprayer and hated it!!! I purchased a super finish max by Home right and absolutely love it!!!!!!!
Love it Katie! That color is beautiful! You are such a good teacher! 🥰🥰🥰
wow! A remarkable transformation!
Cute pieces. Saved from the landfill. Somebody will love them
Beautiful work.
