In the scene set in Kansas, Toto was played by Todrick Hall's little dog, who happens to be named "Toto" (because Todrick is obsessed with _The Wizard of Oz_ ). In the rest of the film, Toto was played by Kevin. The thing is, they pretty much needed all five of them to be there, providing harmonies and rhythm, in every scene. Kirstie played all three female characters; Scott, Mitch, and Avi played the other three obvious main characters; but how were they to get Kevin there for every scene? There was only one character left - Toto. Note that for a dog Toto sure seems to do a lot of singing.
I heard Scott said he loved making this because he loved watching Kirstin finally get the spot light, since she was so shy. Can you tell she was a musical theatre major in college? lol
Obviously you do need to brush up on your Wizard of OZ because Scott, Avi and Mitch were singing the Lollipop song from the little people (the Munchkins in Munchkin Land) in Oz. Kevin was Toto, Dorothy's little dog. Kirsty played Dorothy, the wicked witch of the west (as her sister was crushed by the house as the result of the tornado) and the good witch of the north. They adapted the songs for today. Scott is still singing about 'do you think about me' (meaning brain), Mitch singing damaged (meaning heart) and Avi playing I can't be tamed (meaning lacking in courage). At the beginning they sang about the tornado that affected Kansas, which tore apart the windows, hinges and doors. Still they did homage to the original film by showing Judy Garland and the red shoes.
Well basically it's the story of the wizard of Oz told in contemporary songs rather than the originals (other than somewhere over the rainbow). So I guess you could say they "Moulin rouged" it LOL btw, Kevin was Toto personified :)
Todrick is HUGELY talented! He is the entire creative process to his musical numbers.. including choreography. He and Scott go way back and it's between him and Scott. Very sensitive subject. They have done projects with Todrick in regards to Sup3rfruit and Kirstin also joined Scott and Mitch for their appearance in Todrick's "Black and White" which is one heck of a number! The choreography is MIND BLOWING! The lyrics.. Todrick nailed it! The concept and costumes! It's such a catchy sing too, but the lyrics won't startle you! I know you'd love it! Watch for Chester in Todrick's regular dancers! Chester Lockheart! Hes blonde and sits behind Todrick and then Scott in "Black and White"! I love dance and I really love Chester's style! He's also very sweet and personable and My daughter is a really big fan of Chester's so I've bought a Chester Lockheart Original T that he designed, and my daughter got me his autograph one of the many times she saw him in person. Todrick's a sweetheart too! 😊 Kirstie stepped up on The Wizard of Ahhs and I love that she did! gonna go watch your reaction to "Dance of The Sugar Plum Fairy"! I didn't get a notification for "Dance of The Sugar Plum Fairy"! What!? It's a favorite of mine and they deserved thst 2nd Grammy for arranging that for Acapella!
I'm late to the game on Shaun's reactions. LOVE it though! It is so tearful for me to see that Scott and Mitch still don't follow Todrick on any social media. And vise versa. They were so close. I can't imagine what happened that could break their friendship. Of course I've heard the rumors. But still so, so sad. I love all of them so much. I have no sides. Just so unfortunate that something could come between people who obviously once loved each other so much.
😳👍OMG!! Shawn!! I'm screaming!! Kevin was Toto!!...(her little dog) They ALL had different roles WELL DONE!! No matter how many times I've watched this I always "melt" at the end when Scott gives Kirstie the hug, because they do it all the time in real life! AND when Avi is singing to Kirstie SO SWEET the way they look at each other! (This was during the KAvi flirty days!)😅
If you enjoyed Todrick Hall, you should check out his musical. It's about an hour long and PTX makes an appearance in it as well. It's absolutely wonderful!
Kevin was Toto once they got to Oz. That is Todrick's dog who is actually named Toto! It was a perfect fit because then when Kevin became Toto he just had to be dressed all in black with a hat that had ears.
And it made sense that Toto should be played by the beatboxer because he's the one character who doesn't speak (actually it's revealed in a later Oz book that Toto COULD speak in Oz, but chooses not to... I know, nobody cares about that but me...). I love this video.
Todrick is amazing. Seriously. Starting from his early stuff (Disney, Beauty and the Beat, Cellblock Django,) to his Straight Outta Oz and more recent stuff Coronavirus. I have seen quite a few New York Broadway plays and plays in London and honestly, my all time favorite musical I have ever seen is Todrick’s Straight Outta Oz. He is super talented and produces an incredible amount of content with insanely good quality.
If you continue to check out more of Todrick Hall's projects, you'll see that he has a love for the Wizard of Oz that, as he admits himself, has evolved into an obsession. His all original visual album, Straight Outta Oz, is totally inspired by Wizard of Oz and is semi-autobiographical in nature. I honestly hope he and Scott find a way to resolve their differences as I'd like to see more collaborations between Todrick and Pentatonix in the future.
I love how fun this arrangement is. They all killed it! Oddly enough it took a long time for me to get to this video myself but I was glad I finally watched it a few months ago. I'm enjoying all your reactions!
My favorite thing about this is that even though they chose totally different songs they still managed to make it stay pretty close to the original story, which I felt was rather impressive.
I didn't really get a lot of details of the story & don't know if they've finally made up, but based on comments from others at the time what I understood was Todrick felt Scott broke the "stand by your bro" code by going out with Todrick's ex boyfriend after they had a bad breakup. I guess Scott didn't see a conflict of interest based on what he knew about the breakup & didn't mean it to come across as not supportive of his friend, but it seems that's how Todrick took it. 🤷♀️
Kevin was Toto as a person, kinda weird, except that Toto was in every scene of the original movie, so it worked. The bit Avi sang at the end, and Mitch, too, are some of the prettiest things I've ever heard either of them sing. Also, Kirstie singing "Let's get some shoes" - it's from an iconic video, one of the first music videos ever made. You should check it out for a laugh.
I loved this,i have watched it many times, and still love it everytime. Check out some of todricks stuff, the man is very talented as well. He does videos to songs that normally has a few singers, and does the whole song by himselt. Loved your reaction to the lollipop guild LOL
I think you'd love Toddrick's video of him emulating PTX. He plays each member sooo well, it's very entertaining and fun. Then there's also a video of Superfruit reacting to them watching it.
There is a great "making of" video for this that goes through their process for creating this. Although it wasn't as obvious as it should have been, Kevin assumed the role of "Toto", Dorothy's dog for the majority of the video. The real life dog used at the beginning was Todrick's and is named Toto b/c Todrick is a Wizard of Oz groupie.
you should check out some of the old (and new) ptxperience videos! i would love to see you get to know the rest of the gang like you know scott and mitch through superfruit. theyre hilarious together. ptx funny moments would also cover it, but im fond of the official vids
Shawn's Lounge I don’t think so, it’s just how their experience during their tours, although sometimes they put very little of their music in the background.
Yeah Todrick Hall went on a IG story rant like a year and a half ago saying a lot of his old friends that he moved to LA with are “shady fake ass bitches” and he name dropped Scott Hoying. I don’t know exactly what happened between the two of them, BUT NOBODY talks about my SCOTTY like that. But it’s a shame cause Todrick is very talented and Superfruit/Pentatonix could of made even more beautiful music together. I hope they were able to work it out 🤷🏻♂️
@@chrisl5589 I remember that. I really wonder what happened. I ended up just guessing it was something to do with the Wicked 15 thing, due to the timing lmao. But I can't help it, I'm still curious!
Can’t deny that Todrick’s a very talented artist but his work ethic is very bad; he doesn’t pay his backup dancers and his party host, Manila Luzon. I fell out of love with him right then and there.
I love this production because their choice of pop songs are so clever. All the song choices for each character and setting was very well-chosen and well-executed like Carrie Underwood's "Blown Away" for the tornado and Kirstie's acting there. Scott's solo was beautiful and Mitch's lines in "Damaged" by Danity Kane as the Tin Man was so fitting! Avi the Cowardly Lion singing Miley Cyrus' "Can't Be Tamed" in bass was so surprising yet impressive? And initially I was confused at putting Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble" for Kirstie telling the lion off until this clever spin-off line "Took me to places I never been...You're JUST A LION on the cold hard ground." I'm a sucker for wordplay and word puns so... Also Avi's last solo of Michael Buble's "Home"...that song is a special one to me and so I was glad to hear it.
Hey Shawn..... Home Free dropped a new video today called "Cover me Up" I know your into Penatonix right now, but you might give it a look. The video is not a quarantine song.. This song was ineresting. I love Superfruit. Check out "The Promise" Thanks have a good morning and stay safe.
It’s honestly not my favorite thing Pentatonix has done BUT I love how much Kirstie gets her shine here...I don’t feel like she gets as much love as she should!
Kevin as Toto was just too silly. Too bad they didn't have him do more acting so you'd notice him more. Avi just didn't cut it as a munchkin, though. Too weirded out. LOL
Enjoyable reaction as always. If you'd like to see a full Kirstie live performance of "Somewhere over the rainbow" you might want to check this out th-cam.com/video/J_Y-b27Th1c/w-d-xo.html not really to react to but just for your own listening pleasure. Plus the audio PTX version included in their Classics album has fantastic arrangement that tugs one's heart
Scott and Todrick have known each other from their musical childhoods. Don't know about any fallout, hope that's just another rumored happenstance. Todrick is also Broadway quality, and wrote and produced this piece, and they're all great actors, too! (But, PLEASE do "Black and White" with Todrick writing, producing, arranging, singing and dancing! But so do Kirstie, Mitch and Scott.)
So glad you watched this one - even when they're totally having fun their vocals remain awesome. Here's the Behind the Scenes - just for you to have another laugh. x th-cam.com/video/C6yQa3oC7gM/w-d-xo.html

I heard Scott said he loved making this because he loved watching Kirstin finally get the spot light, since she was so shy. Can you tell she was a musical theatre major in college? lol
Omg Todrick Hall ft. Superfruit ft. Kirstie's "Black and White" is a more modern totally fun catchy collaboration and is a Todrick original song.
avi was the cowardly lion. Kevin was Toto, Dorothy's dog. todrick is super creative. check out Black and White with todrick, Scott, mitch, and Kirstie

This was a work of art! The choice of songs for the different parts is genius!!
Kevin is Todo the dog
Ok the black pup is Todrick’s dog Toto and then In Ahhhhs Kevin becomes Toto.
You should react to “Pentatonix singing your tweets” it’s really funny !!! Also watch “Pentatonix tries to sing 100 songs in 10 mins”
Oh my goodness how close were they ? I think they should do the challenge again :)

TOTO!
Kevin was Toto. I did not know PTX and Toddrick had a falling out 😢😢😢 they were excellent friends. Can anyone explain about this?
I was wondering about this, too!
This is my favorite PTX video
My favorite thing about this is that even though they chose totally different songs they still managed to make it stay pretty close to the original story, which I felt was rather impressive.
I laugh every time I see Butch Mitch at the beginning of the video.
They were the munchkins in Oz, singing the lollipop kids and Kevin was Toto.
