Next time your in Edmonton I would love to see you friend ❤ I'm not too far and would love to show you some of my favorite places to go 😊
❤ I would absolutely love that!!! I'll keep you posted - with family there, we are sure to be back out that way before too long! 😘
I wonder, if front lever was something common for turn of the century pieces from Central and Eastern Europe - it is extremely easy to find here some moderately priced earrings like that from the Austro-Hungarian Empire (or with some effort - pieces from the Russian Empire).
Thank you so much for watching & commenting! That’s a great observation, and I think you are on to something. Most examples I have seen online are from Central and Eastern Europe. Sounds like I need to make some traveling plans for the future! 😘
Could you please tell me about the gem AP you were discussing (27:34) ? Thanks! ❤ Love your Style of teaching thanks so much!
Thank you so much for watching! The tool I was referencing is gem.app , which aggregates data from platforms like etsy, ebay, ruby lane, 1stdibs, and many other sites. When you use their search function it provides result from all of these sites together, which really speeds up looking for current asking prices for comparison. You can use their tool as a website, and you can also download their app.
Great video, thanks! Do you think an antique piece loses value after newer pieces are added? Thanks
🙌Great question! Damage to antiques impacts value, as does conversions. It’s important to note that giving life to a piece that would have otherwise been scrapped/melted helps preserve the history, and restore some value, but it will be worth less than an “all original” example. The beauty of a well done restoration is that it retains some meaning and will have more value than the raw materials. I’m personally not a fan of converting things which are in good condition, for example brooches into necklaces/pendants, or stick pins into rings/pendants. I know many feel this is a way to “breathe new life into pieces which otherwise may not be worn”, but I’m a bit of a purist at heart. Where possible, I like to preserve pieces in their “original state”. 💖
Thank you very much! Also I am not sure if this piece was converted but two other people think it was.
