I met him 4 years ago during a 5 day training camp in Okinawa. He really was beating concrete with his bare hands, which were a dark colour and his feet. But he was very kind and courteous, I think that kindness comes naturally with this kind of strength
Sensei Morio Higaonna, the legendary Goju Ryu Karate master, was described over 30 years ago as “The Most Dangerous Man in Japan in a Real Fight" by another legend, Donn Draeger. We think today at 84 years old, Morio Higaonna is still very dangerous! What do you think?
People don’t realise how hard these old school karate guys are, they’re rock hard. These men came up when you actually had to be strong as f-k to even make it beyond yellow belt not like today how they hand out black belts like candy after 18 months - 2years. That’s what’s given the traditional martial arts a bad name these days.!
Karate is not always about punches, kicks, elbow strikes, chopping, or grappling. It's also about how well build your body is, specially if you have a strong fist to crush things. And it's not an easy task. It takes hard and wise work of training.
Don Draeger, of immense knowledge, skill and strength, died about 40 years ago, after being poisond in Indonesia. I am quite sure he never said it about Higaona, as good as Higaona was. I had been living in Japan at the time and I met Higaona sensei too, who tried to open a dojo in Tokyo but closed after a short while because it was not profitable.
I can feel this man's enthusiasm. While throwing punches in the horse stance and he gets excited and has to motivate his class. Or the scene where he grabs under the man's armpit; he smiles with a loving viciousness. As if to say, "I must do this. I love you as my fellow human, but I must show you how strong I am." "Faadsta" "JoieeeAah!"

Likely one of the strongest and most combat capable 80+ year olds in our world

Basics, Basics, Basics. Learning the basic base of a system cannot be overstated.
always re-stomp that groin
Some claim that karate is impractical they have to learn that ancient karate is a battle field art and have to meet real masters like him
every martial art is beyond what pop culture has popularized, it's always about conditioning your body and mind, it's about discipline and readiness.
84, wow, still in phenomenal shape
The original Heihachi inspiration, u can tell this dude is the real deal

Big respect for Karate. One of the hardest fighters 💪
Imagine Higaonna sensei digging out your eyes with those brick hands.
Hia hands look like clubs. I bet they are like bricks.

This man is over 80 years old, and he's still training, what an inspiration! 🥋👊
