I recently bought the 686 and it was manufactured in 1985! Looks just like yours but has the Hogue grips! This is now one of my favorite handguns! Great video!!!
Those old style ones with the firing pin on the hammer and without the built in lock are very hard to find. You have a real gem there sir. Very nice handgun. Stay safe
I work down the street from Smith and Wesson here in Springfield MA. I consider this a compliment for all the love. gonna pick mine up soon for back woods use here in New England
I love my 686... I've had it 4 or 5 years. Now I'm going to have to go to the range this week and shoot it for the first time in a while! I also love Switzerland... I'm American, but visited there a couple of times in the mind 90s. A beautiful country, and I love the mindset the people have regarding guns & protection. Were I to pick a European nation in which to live, I think it would be Switzerland! Enjoy your 686... I know I have enjoyed mine!
I bought one of these new in 1986. The receipt says I paid $310. Its model number has no dashes behind it. It has Goncalo Alves grips and the firing pin it attached to the hammer. Its probably the best looking and shooting gun I've ever owned.
I carried one for years before I bought a 9mm for job purposes. Looked alot like this one, only more of a nickle/chrome finish. It will serve you well,
Thx for the video this is my next firearm. All revolvers have a hard trigger pull this is why you shoot high because your pulling the gun back. Once you master a trigger on a revolver you can shoot anything.
I didn't realize the gun rusts so easily. I don't believe I'd buy a gun that I had to wear a glove to use. I wear latex gloves at work, not happening in leisure. Nice gun none the less.
Some people - like myself - enjoy close-ups of guns. Unfortunately i can't just go outside an shoot my gun as I please becaus ethe law is a lot different than in the states. Also my local indoor range doesn't allow the recording of videos. I can't please anyone with my vids and if people don't like it they usually don't bother...
just noticed on mine, that rear sight has a screw to lift or lower it, along with sliding it left and right so you could adjust it so it will shoot center
You are a lucky guy and made a good choice. I want one like this. Maybe someday.... 'sigh'. One question though. Isn't the rear sight on the 686 adjustable?? I definitely want an adjustable rear sight.
hi which is better 686 plus 3in barrel or 4in barrel...what are the advantages and what finish on this gun would be nice and last a really long time and what modifications can be done like action, trigger etc... Thank you...
great looking gun! i've got a new 6" barrel version (with all the safety features) :/ i'm wondering if you know what model pachmayr grips you have in this video, as i cannot seem to find them in the pachmayr catalogue. thank you :)
urfortunately I don't know what model grips they are. I bought this gun used and the grips were already on them. but they do look like these: www.pachmayr.com/home/compac-grips.php
I found your video presented very little meaningful info about this firearm. The fact that you are pleased with your purchase, how a screw was loose and how it shot a little high in your aim - especially when this was not demonstrated, live, at a firing range, are just not helpful statements to the person who is trying to make a buying decision. I mentioned Hickok 45 as he actually fires the weapons he tests at his own range, on varying targets and viewers can actually see & hear for thmslvs
How on earth can this guy expect to be credible when he does not even take this firearm to the range to test its performance there? what is the point of assembling/disassembling and essentially admiring this weapon through a looking glass? I see none. Hickock45 has done great videos on all kinds of firearms. What a great "play area" HE has. would love to have one just like it myself.

its cool to see there are gun people outside the US ^_^
You did great. That is one of the best revolvers ever.

Great choice, beautiful revolver! My wife has a 686 7-shot with a 3 inch barrel. Love being able to fire .38 special or .357 thanks for sharing!
Very nice firearm. Greetings from the US. I hope to visit Switzerland one day, it looks beautiful.
I would say your collecting is off to a great start.
gotta love the 686. i shot a few of these and theyre so nice. i like those pachmyer grips, gives it a pretty classic look

oh and the rear sight is adjustable for elevation
its shooting high because the sights are prolly zeroed in to be dead on at a longer range. no offense but 25 yards is pretty close for that revolver
All you need is some polishing compound and a rag.
nice Pachmayr grips. I can't seem to find them where the emblem is BELOW the screw. Where could I get a set like yorus?
if the gun is shooting high then just raise the rear sight

Good video bud
I want that same one, 4" 6 shot in stainless. Yes please. If I can find one for a decent price I'm grabbing it
i'm thinking about bringing it in to get a nice polish. i can't do it myself because i'm not a big tool guy nor have i the equipment.
revolvers are much more complex than semi auto's
@monkeyandtheEngineer He's wearing gloves.

@BuzznSuz ha then the gun has the same age as I do ;)
how much are they??
rubbers~
White glove?? Is that you Michael Jackson...
The gloves are unnecessary the salt from your hands wont rust the weapon
what's with the latex glove haha

Whats the point of your comment?

Can you explain the latex gloves? Is that to prevent rusting or fingerprints, or..........
you have really white hands.
how much are they??
